We're going to brave it and visit MK on New Year's Eve, but we managed to score a 8:50 reservation at Yachtsman Steakhouse with another family. The hope is to head over there for dinner and return to MK in time for the NYE fireworks at 11:50pm. Capacity closures won't really be a concern for us considering we're staying at the Dolphin (which, closure-wise, is considered a Disney Hotel) and we're pass holders. My question is this: is this feesable? Will we be able to make it? We're planning on taking Disney Transport. Some say traffic delays are horrendous while others are saying it will only be a bit worse than normal at that hour. Thanks!

Besides the traffic getting from YC to MK, there will be a MASS of bodies within MK itself! Let's say the stars are aligned : you get through dinner under an hour, walk out to a waiting bus, and get to MK in another 30 mins. Add in another 20 minutes for security/magicbands and you're "walking" up Main Street at 11 pm.

This is the worst time to maneuver and find a spot. There are corrals set up with perimeters already defined, you can't just jumpin. I would really advise against park hopping NYE, even with the Yachtmans ADR, not worth it.

If the park hits phase 4, nobody gets in, disney resort or annual pass. I don't think buses run at Phase 4. And last year, Magic Kingdom was at phase 4 for 11 hours. I wouldn't leave the park for anything that day.

I'm a betting man and I bet your not going to make it......will be our 8th yr in a row staying on property for Christmas and NYE and if your not there early or decide to leave and return never going to make it. We have noticed that MK hits capacity quicker each passing year. Stay there or like pp mentioned go to Epcot....:thumbsup2

You aren't going to make it.

You likely won't make it even if you take a cab.

My advice would be to head to Epcot for the fireworks.

2003 was the last time we were at WDW on NYE and we were in the MK at 11:00 A.M. (not P.M.) when the park reached capacity (we also were staying onsite and were AP holders).....we left the park shortly after since we could not even walk with our grandson's stroller.....and we have not returned during the Holiday Week since that time. So....I guess my short answer to your question would be.....if you are inside the park and wish to be in that park at midnight... I would not leave for any reason with the intention of getting back into that park shortly before midnight....not to mention attempting to use Disney transport to get from the Epcot resort area back to the MK...which on a good day can take a minimum of 1.5 hours.
