NYE at Universal...

We are going to Universal for the first time over NYE and for the 2 days following. Unfortunately, we have to stay off site on NYE and then will be moving to Hard Rock on the 1st. I have several questions about the stay as we are trying to figure out what to do NYE... Our flight will get in around 1:00 on the 31st.

1) What do they do at CityWalk on NYE? Is there a cost? Can you go if you are staying offsite at one of the partner hotels? Are kids allowed? I keep finding conflicting information to these questions!!!

2) If we decide to do a park on NYE (I know it will be crazy busy, that doesn't bother us) will we be able to get in later in the day? Do either of the parks ever reach capacity and close?

Cityalk has a special party that costs a lot of $$ (average $100+) to see. Hard Rock Live usually has a band playing (separate tickets required). But you can still feel a lot of excitement in the air.

Parkwise, yes, it's possible for the parks, primarily IOA, to close for capacity. And since the parks are open late (11pm for IOA usually; 1am for USF), you'll easily be able to get in after 5pm.

This year, IOA was open till 1am as well. I remember ringing in the New Year at USF then heading over to IOA for the last hour.

They had some sort of entertainment set up at the Music Plaza stage. Some sort of cover band, I believe. They also gave out party hats and noisemakers at different locations in the park.

I would assume they would do something similar this coming NYE.
