Hi! We're making out first trip out west with the kids and are planning 5 nights at Aulani over NYE this year. We're fully expecting it to be busy at Aulani during this period so carefully planning all the dates and figuring out the booking window for each activity.

Any sense of what Aulani has done historically for NYE? We've already booked the KA WA'A luau for 12/30 in case there's another special event for 12/31.

Thank you!

I almost accused my husband of having a secret disboards account. We will be there at the same time and have 3 kids- 2 are twins. I have been looking into this as well, have you found anything?

Hah! We’ll need to be on the lookout for the other twins!

No, unfortunately I haven’t been able to find anything yet. Some anecdotal stories of what they’ve done in the past. I suspect that we’ll learn a lot upon our arrival!

The big thing is the Ko Olina fireworks show. It's organized by the entire Ko Olina community, not just Aulani, but I believe it's typically done right off the Aulani lagoon?

We were there last year until right before NYE. The week before NYE is still all Christmas mode, with Christmas music and decorations. I didn't see anything that suggested they did extra or unique things for NYE vs any other times. The only thing I've gathered is that it might be a day when lots of guests are on site because it's a major holiday when most things are closed down, so could be lots of locals hanging out?

It’s been a while since I’ve done NYE at Aulani. However, from what I remember, they don’t do much. Below are some things to remember during this time:
  • There will probably be a free fireworks display that can be seen from the Aulani lagoon. I say probably because they usually don’t confirm that it’s happening until the last minute.
  • Restaurant reservations on and off property for NYE will be hard to get. Aulani usually has a dinner that can be ordered to the room and one that happens somewhere on property.
  • Roy’s Ko Olina across the street usually has a NYE multi course meal that sells out quickly. Start checking now to see when bookings can be made.
  • A lot of restaurants only serve multi course meals for NYE and require reservations. Research anywhere you plan to eat on that day to see the cost and if reservations are required.
  • The Honolulu City Lights should still be up in Waikiki. If you’re there before NYE, check it out.
Christmas/NYE is a great time to be on the island. Plan well in advance for any activities you want to do and have a great time!
