We will be in NYC tomorrow and looking for suggestions on where to eat with a group of 6 kids ages 12-18. Around lunch time we will be near the Musuem of Natrual History (79th), then near Time Square for dinner? Looking for a great Deli, Pizza/Pasta or other family type place that is reasonable in price.

Thanks,
Tammy

Well if I was looking for Deli the only place I would go in NYC would be Katz's, but they are on the lower east side...and not reasonable in price.

Not sure if you are going to find anything in Times Square that is reasonably priced.

John's Pizza is a great place for families. It's right near Times Square. I forget the exact address :confused3 We loved it!:thumbsup2

Just got back from NYC yesterday. For the times square area I would recommend Carmines on 44th (? pretty sure it's 44th). Very good. Or Juniors on 45th for good deli sandwiches and cheesecake! By the museum I would recommend Shake Shack.

Tammy, My vote is for Carmines too!!!! Italian, family style, so you can order a few meals and share. It is on 44th, between 7th and 8th. Since you have kids, another thought might be Ellens Stardust Diner, singing wait staff good food and alot of fun, that is I believe 57th and around 7th, also Mars 2112, food not incredible, it is like a hard rock, but it is themed like Mars, lava rock, martians, and old space movies on TV. My two loved it when they were younger. Have so much fun!!!!:yay:

I always take my kids to John's Pizza when we are in Times Square. It is at 260 W.44th Street I think. My kids prefer it to Carmine's and I think the prices are more reasonable. I'd probably do Gray's Papaya for lunch with kids if you don't mind standing. It is at 72nd and Broadway and the museum is at 79th and CPW.

I asked this question last week for our trip and almost everyone said to go to Ellen's Stardust. This was our one and only disappointment on our trip. We were seated in the musty basement. The wait staff that night was TERRIBLE, sound system was AWFUL, too loud. I had the mac 'n cheese with chicken. It was velvetta with tiny pieces of chicken for $20. They even stopped the "singing" 3/4 the way through our meal (which wasn't all bad) to set up for a jazz show. Overall really bad experience. Maybe we got it on a off night.

We enjoyed the Mars 2112 themed restaurant when we went. When you take the elevator it's more like a spaceship heading to mars and then when the doors open...it's like you are on another planet...pretty fun for the kids. The food was like you would find at hard rock or planet hollywood.

One of our favorite places to eat was at Whole Foods in Columbus Circle. It's at the SW corner of Central Park, kinda. Maybe a 10 min walk to Times Square? They have multiple different buffet type areas- hot food, picnic food, sandwiches, an amazing salad bar, a cold salads bar (potato, seaweed, etc), an indian food station, chinese station, etc. There's a large food court so you can eat inside, or take it across the street to the park!

We also liked Brooklyn Deli on W57th? 56th? near 7th Ave., but you'd want reservations and the prices are on a par with a lot of NYC; maybe $20 for mac and cheese, pot roast, etc. The food was amazingly good and the servings more than substantial.

Have fun... we missed our week in NY this summer. We went last summer and were scheduled for this summer too as DD16 to takes a summer training program with the Rockettes. Unfortunately she severely sprained her ankle on 7/1, so no NYC, no dance, for her this summer. We are sad, but coping. It's hard to ground a dancer, but if the ankle doesn't heal well, it'll jeopardize roles in Nutcracker this fall, so.... it's turning into a long summer!
