Okay, I need some help here. In 2006, 2007 and 2008, we went to WDW during the Thanksgiving week and airfare was approx. $250 per person roundtrip from NYC (LGA or JFK airports) I'm planning a similar trip this year and so far, I can't find any roundtrip airfare for less than $550!! :scared1: I realize airline prices may have gone up a bit since 2008 but I would have expected in the $300-400 range, not the $500-700 range!

I know there are a few flights under $300 for Newark Airport but it would take us about 1-2 hours to get to Newark.

Does anyone think that the prices will go down later this year or do I need to look for a different week to travel? I've also considered the last week of August but I'm concerned about the possibility of hurricanes.

Thanks,
Helen

Can you get to Islip? If so try SW from Islip to MCO.

When you state you concerns about hurricanes remember that Thanksgiving is still in hurricane season. We have been to DW 3 times the last week in August and have never been hit with a hurricane, lucky I guess.

That's a good point about hurricanes. Many years ago, I did go to WDW in late August and we were fine....

I'll also check out Islip.

Thanks,
Helen

If you're north of the city, I think AirTran flies out of White Plains, so that might be another option.

I avoid Newark at all costs. I've never flown through there without waiting an hour on the tarmac.

Did you try Jetblue out of SWF or White Plains? I have flown out of both to Florida, many times, during holiday weeks under $300.

I don't think jetBlue has released their Nov fares yet. Their online calendar stops at Oct. You may see better rates from them. I'm certain they fly from JFK to MCO. As another posted mentioned, HPN is an option if you are north of the city. We always fly out of HPN on jetBlue. I am going Thanksgiving too so I've been watching the fares closely. I believe Airtran also flies out of JFK and HPN and they haven't released their Nov fares yet either. Keep your fingers crossed they are reasonable...

I would definitely check out Islip. SW out of there is the cheapest I've seen and I check out Hartford and Providence too. Our April flights are over $200 one way right now (from Providence) and they are still around $114 out of Islip.

Good luck!

I second this. We did this for about $200 RT in August of last year.

Southwest hasn't even gotten to Sep yet in their online calendar. You'll have to wait a few more months for them to post Nov fares. I would suspect JetBlue and Airtran should have their Nov fares posted in March. Bottom line is you should wait until the discount airlines post their fares.

I don't have any advice. Just wanted to say I searched thru lots of airfares for our family of 5 and it is just so expensive we decided to drive again!!

SW releases aug dates at end of march...........
not sure where you are OP, westchester cty has airport, airtran (though i would not fly them) also, is jetblue up yet for your dates?

SW charges no luggage fees, great airline if that works for you...Good Luck!

When we go to MCO during Presidents week (when NY schools are off) the air is $500-600. We expand our horizon and have instead flown out of Philly or Baltimore - or flown into Tampa.

That said, I think its still early for November. Sit tight. It will come down!

You are looking much too early for airfare.

You want to wait until April. I booked my airfare for the week after Thanksgiving the end of April and my airfare going down the Saturday after Thanksgiving was only $89.00 leaving from BWI.

Thanks, everyone! I'll wait awhile and see if the prices go down.

Helen

I definitely would NOT book until JetBlue and SW release their schedules. The biggies may alter their fares then to be price competitive.
