NYC...restaurants the locals like?

Can anyone suggest a few restaurants that the locals like? Inexpensive, good food, New York City style - in other words, not touristy places like Planet Hollywood or Mars 2112. Thanks!

John's Pizza on 44th and 8th. the building used to be a church. it has a menu primarily of brick oven pizza with a few pasta dishes.

Ellen's Stardust Diner on Broadway and 51st. home of the singing waitstaff.

Ollies on 44th between 7th and 8th. chinese food.
