**This is a sidelight to the NYC Subway Info thread**

If anyone has any suggestions for restaurants/street vendors that shouldn't be missed on our anniversary trip to NYC.....

I'd be SOOOOOOO thankful!!!

I can't believe that we have less than a week to go!!! :teeth:

Not a New Yorker, but you do need to have a Sabrett. Briar Rose made sure I had one a few years ago. Have a great trip, *Flower*, Happy Anniversary.

Thanks Dan and Pin Wizard!

Briar Rose posted for me on the Subway thread, but she didn't mention these places!!!

Goodie :) more places to look at!!!

I posted some of my suggestions on your subway thread. :D

the best dogs and pretzels are from the guy at 44th and Times Square, right near the Toys R Us store. we almost always stop by his cart when we go to the theater.

I also like Ollie's, a chinese place on 44th. no "atmosphere" but the food is great.

if you're in the east 60's try Serendipity. they do mostly burgers and pastas, casual dining. their specialty is frozen hot chocoloate. and you cna stop at the candy bar down the street afterwards.

Another spot, this one in Little Italy, and a recommendation from a NYC Italian to me, is Il Cortile. I ate there, in the courtyard, food was excellent, service very good. I enjoyed it a lot, and we do have many great Italian places/restaurants of all types here in Chicago, so I do not get overly impressed with many easily. This was very good. It was also my very first taste of tiara misu, now one of my favorites at Italian restaurants, as well as the Boardwalk Bakery at WDW, LOL. :teeth:

Definitely Carmine's if you like Family Style Italian food. It is right near your hotel as well. In the $20-$40 range.

Agree on Sardi's but it is more touristy than anything else.

As for the 21 Club, sure but it is pricey. If you want to do it up really right (and the $$ aren't an issue) try the Four Seasons or Lutece. Both will be about $200 for 2 with tip and without heavy drinking. I think the Four Seasons may also have a pre-theater deal that is cheaper. Only since you mentioned it was your anniversary. You will never find anything like it for the food, service or atmosphere. But you also won't find tradional items like steak either. (More like duck, pheasant, venison etc)

If you like steak try either The Palm or Smith & Wollensky's.

I am wanting to try Mesa Grill or Bolo....we are HUGE Bobby Flay fans!

If you go to either please post a review.

Have a great trip!

Bobby Flay is a chef with a few shows on TV... His old show was called Chillin'&Grillin', I think now he does FoodNation. He has been at the Epcot Food & Wine Festival before, I remember seeing it on FoodTV once before.

My DW and I celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Oceana in the city...excellent place...check them out in the zagat guide.

I second Carmine's although it's not very romantic, but the food is very reasonable and delicious. Try their fried calamari!

We have eaten at Mesa Grill and it was excellent. We've also eaten at Po' (Mario Battali's restaurant) down in the village and it was out of this world. It is very small, however, and you need reservations. We've also eaten at Mario's other restaurant, Babbo, which is decidedly more upscale (and pricey) and was excellent as well. I, however, would HIGHLY recommend for you anniversary Patria. It is cuban/south american and like nothing I've ever had. It has lots of atmosphere and makes great drinks, too.;) Reservations needed here, too. Enjoy and let us know what you decide!

I like to take out-of-towners to the Boathouse Cafe in Central Park on a day coupled with museum-hopping or shopping on the Upper East or West ...

...try picking up a copy of Time Out NY and New YOrk mag to see where the newest trendy spots the locals are flocking to are...

...also how 'bout brunch at Balthazar(SOHo)? Or a couple of cute places on Irving Place in the Gramercy Hill section (Friend of a Farmer and 71 Irving are a couple of my faves, cozy, nice and will give you a very "local, native" feel...probably can find more info about them online-try MSN citysearch for NYC.:))'

Tooooo many places...you'll have to come back often.:)

One of DHs college study group asked if we were going to do Tavern on the Green, and of course I just HAD to find those $20.03 lunch and $30.03 dinner deals....

Of course it's probably all booked up..... but we could probably give it a try... :p

Dress code info...... I need dress code info!!!!!!

At TOG's website they have a phone number for reservations. And I believe I saw that there was NO dress code! Surprising.

Thanks for the info Sandy...... I'll have to give them a call when I get home from work!!! :teeth:

Wish us luck......

We made reservations yesterday for lunch at Tavern on the Green on July 4!!
We snagged their latest seating, and hope that we can get in from the airport to the hotel and at least check our bags before going to lunch.

We're so excited!!!!
