NYC news to be announced tomorrow

A slide show? Yikes, please. That's it?

I don't know about anyone else but I used to run from other people's slide shows.

Oh no

Can't wait to see the angry threads that are sure to pop up on the DIS next year.

"We spent each day of our trip in the MK and our pictures didn't make on the castle!!"

"My daughter was dressed in the prettiest outfits. We had her take pictures with all of the photopass CMs in the MK. Can you believe not one of her pictures was shown on the castle!!!"

"We spent $85 zillion dollars on our vacation and none of our pictures made it on the castle."

"My DH and I are livid! Our daughter's picture was posted on the castle for everyone to see. We have no idea who was in the park that night. Someone could have snapped a pic of her picture and have it posted on some creepy web site!!!"

Yes, but by then the annual swine flu thread will have died down, and we can't discuss politics or religion, so it will make for fun reading!

You forgot:

Dear King of WDW:

"DD was the most adorable child in the entire park (as always) and our vacation was RUINED because she was not shown on the Castle. I demand a full refund. I will not settle for anything less."

I agree. Quit messing with the castle. The Christmas lights are beautiful but all the other junk takes away from the awe of it.

Ignoring the specifics about the campaign I'm in the minority but I generally like when they do stuff to the castle. I've seen it hundreds of times plain and will see it many more plain. Things like the cake, the wallpapering, and the happiest celebration make it different. Even though I thought the cake was a bit ugly at least it was something different to see.

That being said I do with they would just do some 40th anniversary theming or something else that isn't a bunch of people's pictures but I don't get all up in arms if they do something short term to the castle that is different.

If seeing the castle plain and pristine is a necessary part of someone's trip for some reason they know in plenty of time that these things will be done (usually, the stitch thing I think was a surprise but was also only one day) and can plan around it.

The campaign itself is nothing special and kind of blah. I could take it or leave it. I don't really care about the yearly promotions so I wouldn't get too excited or disappointed. I'll pretty much just ignore it if I am down there during it.

I am looking forward to the same people who complained about not getting anything for the years of a million dreams complain that their snowflake wasn't on the castle. Anything that adds to the entitlement of certain people makes for a fun read.

It wont ruin my trip if the castle is covered with faces, but it's such an icon, how many personal photos do you have of it? Lots, I'll bet. How many do you want with strangers faces on it? Weird. I think I'll start a petition to color the Statue of Libertys hair. Green is getting old. LOL

Ick. That'll make the Castle look worse than it did when they made it into a ginormous birthday cake.

Oh, God...wasn't that awful??? Why would they think we would ever want the castle covered up by that gaudy mess?? Ive got nothing against a giant birthday cake...but don't mess with the icons, right?

If you want pictures of the castle without faces on it, take your pictures before the evening show starts.:confused3

You have all day and most of the night to get "good" pictures of the castle.

Just thought of another vent to add to my list.

"We could only get to the MK for one hour during our whole trip. Of course that was the exact time that the silly night show was going on. As a result, I was not able to get a picture of the castle without pictures of goofy people all over it!!":headache:

I am sorry, was I whining??

As I posted on the Theme Park board..

They aren't slathering the Castle with monkey feces! (though, from the outrage, whining and moaning around the boards you'd think they were doing just that, right before they set the castle on fire).

For a short period each night (probably before the fireworks) there will be a short "show" on the castle featuring the photos/videos and music. The castle hasn't been ruined. Take all the pics of a pristine castle during the day and at night before or after the SHORT show, and skip the show if you don't want to see it (I usually skip the lame forecourt shows they do anyway).

Maybe I was just oblivious when it came to Disney's other marketing campaigns, but this is the first time I can remember when such a campaign has been uniformly panned by a majority of Disney's online fans. Whether it's here on the DIS, on Facebook, or even Disney's own blog, the reaction is overwhelmingly negative.

Add me to the negative pile.

Perhaps they should have spent those research dollars on something other then whether or not families go on vacation to create memories? Or that they capture those memories with digital cameras? Talk about out of touch with your core audience...

I'm not as annoyed with the pictures as the fact that they made this out to be 'exciting news.' It was MAYBE worthy of a press RELEASE; certainly not an hour long press conference, the most interesting part of which was Tom Bergeron saying something I'm not sure I can repeat on the DIS. Well that or seeing MJF but I have no clue what the point of him being there was.
