I need advice on where to stay in New York City.....
What general location do you prefer?...
any specific hotel recommendations?
TIA!

We enjoy staying at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers a few blocks up from Times Square. There's also a sister hotel one block down which is the Sheraton Manhattan which is a bit smaller but does have an indoor pool.

We stayed at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. We thought the hotel was very nice and the location is perfect.

The Doubletree Times Square has large rooms (bedroom/living room/bathroom) and is in a great location. Of course, the Waldorf is beautiful (but not budget friendly).

What about the other areas besides Times Square....Is it easy to get around...
So far I haven't found anything around $200 in Times Square...most is closer to $300..

I've had pretty good luck with Priceline for Times Square hotels. I got the Millennium for about $140 the last time we were there.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in the Financial District. It was GREAT!!!! We are a family of 5 and have a really hard time fitting in most NYC rooms, but not here. They had a wonderful, full hot breakfast each morning and a manager's reception each evening. This saved us LOTS of money, even if the hotel cost a bit more or was a bit farther out. Warning, however: it is very near Ground Zero and there were many people trying to sell books or postcards of 9/11 with pretty graphic photos. (not selling at the hotel, just in the area of Ground Zero) Our kids were younger and didn't know much about 9/11 and we really didn't want them to see all the images at that time. (This was about 2-3 yrs. ago, now they are older and understand more.) It is not as centrally located a hotel as those in Times Square, but there is a beautiful park nearby that overlooks the water and it is near the Staten Island Ferry. Taxis were easy to get and the subway was also close. It was a little more complicated as the subway stations around Ground Zero were closed, but we managed. I would stay here again.

Have a fun trip!

On January 8th we had a girls night out with my best friends. It was a Christmas present from my one best friend's husband who is a NYC police officer. We stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott, Times Square and thought it was great. We had a king with pull out couch. It had a wonderful view of the Empire State Building, but I am sure there aren't that many rooms there that have that view. The room was much larger then most rooms in NYC. It includes free breakfast buffet in the AM. There prices are pretty good for that location. We were already planning a longer stay before we left.
