NYC Driving Question?

We are driving from Albany, NY to Disney on Friday, April 9. On the way we are stopping to catch the Yankee game that starts @ 4:00. In the past when we left Yankee Stadium we have always gone north on the Major Deegan to the Thruway.

This time we want to go south on I95. I know the most direct route is to go over the George Washington Bridge. I also know that can be a traffic nightmare.

The game should be over around 7:00. I was considering going South on the Major Deegan, over the Tri-borough bridge, then take the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to the Verrazano Narrows bridge to the Statan Island Expressway to 95. To all the experienced NYC drivers out there: does this make any sense? Any other ideas? Thanks for the help.

It all depends on what the traffic is like at that time. The BQE could be a nightmare. If I were at Yankee Stadium I don't think I would take that route. If the traffic was too bad on the GWB, I would probably take either the Lincoln or Holland Tunnel. Again depending on the traffic reports at that time.

Listen to 1010am and 880am for traffic reports before you leave the stadium. You won't know the best route until you hear the traffic report right then.

If I were at Yankee Stadium I would not take that route either. I agree with listening to 1010 am or 880 to get the best route. Remember that in addition to traffic over the GWB you will experience all of the traffic associated with the ending of the Yankee game.

Go have dinner at Frankie's and Johnnie's Restaurant after the game. If you like the Yankees you'll love this place. It's filled with memobilla.(sp?) And the food is fantastic. By the time you leave all the game traffic will be gone.

The Verranzano could get pretty packed and it is always bumper to bumper getting through Staten Island! I would take the GWB or Lincoln Tunnel to Jersey and just catch 95 that way!
