NYC CRUISES PLANNING/INFO ThREAD!

Funny, I was going to ask the same questions. I did see on the Sheraton website they charge $25/day for parking. Didn't think it was worth the price of the room and then the parking price IF they would even let you park there while cruising. I still might give them a call to see if they offer a say and cruise package, just not sure DH would go for that.

It looks like parking at the ferry terminal is $10.00/day and the ferry fare is $9.00 one way. The ferry terminal is at 39th street and we would walk to the port at 49th street.

I would like to go up the night before the cruise, but all the hotels I checked in the city are around $300.00/night. The Sheraton is $200.00 plus the cost of the ferry ($54.00 for the 2 of us for 3 trips) so I guess I won't really be saving that much by staying in NJ unless we drive and I really don't want to do that.

Plus you would have to pay to park at the Sheraton for the night. I checked the hotel/parking package and it wasn't offered for the night before our cruise. They do offer a hotel/ferry package but I didn't look into that. I'd also be afraid of the weather and taking the ferry across - I wouldn't want to start out the cruise by getting seasick on the ferry.

It's a 5-8 minute ride on the ferry from Weehawken to 39th Street. Never saw anyone seasick during 18 years of doing this Hudson River crossing.

im sorry I know these questions probaly can be find here but i looked at about 10 pages here and couldnt find the answer.

what time should platinum members get there? I will like to be on early never got on early before because i always use dcl transportation this time i will be driving.I dont have to be one of the first people on the ship just want to get onboard early dont want to be waiting to board

how is the parking? is there enough spots? is there valet parking? if there is valet how much is it?

thankyou

does anyone know if I can leave my car at the port for another two days after the cruise?

Can you easily walk from the terminal to Central Park?

I hate to aske a dumb question, but I assume you also tip the taxi driver - would the be about 15% or more????

Not a dumb question at all. Yes, a couple dollars' tip is standard, maybe a little more if the cabbie helps you with your bags. Most NYC cabs now take credit/debit cards too (if you want to save your cash) and when you swipe your card, it will automatically give you options to add tip (based on 15%, 20%... whatever you choose).

:rotfl: :thumbsup2

Yes, it's even shorter than the ferry that goes across Seven Seas Lagoon.

Thanks for that. I didn't know how long the ferry would take even tho I know it's not that far across the river.

Is the swiper in the back seat or do you have to hand them your cc?

I'd like to know this too. It will be our 1st platinum cruise.

Has anyone heard anything (positive or negative) about NYC Airporter? It is bus transportation from the airports to Manhattan. (not to be confused with NY Airport Service, which is just a minivan and has poor reviews on-line)
I am still looking for alternatives to using a taxi (due to the need for car seat/boosters)
Thank you!

Hi Suzi,

I'm a New Yorker, and everytime I fly home, I use NYC Airporter. I lived near a major attraction, but just make sure they drop you off close enough to the terminal. It's cheap and they've always done a great job. Make sure to give the driver a dollar or two per bag they get off the bus for you.

well my dad and I are Platinum members and got there at 11:00am for our 2 night and the terminal was crowded, but we were one of the first ones on the ship, so it worked out well for us:cool1::thumbsup2:goodvibes

Need advice on best way for a family of 5 to get from La Guardia to our hotel near Times Square on July 10 at 5:30 pm. The hotel suggested we just wait at a taxi stand until a van taxi comes by, but does anyone know if this is often?

Also, is anyone else planning on booking the post-cruise excursions that take you to the airport? I know they're pricey, but since our flight doesn't leave until 4:30, they seem a nice convenient way to get some more sightseeing and a trip to the airport without much fuss. My only worry is that we can't book them until we get on the cruise (that really bugs me...what if they don't go? How can we be assured that they will happen.). I need a back-up plan also...anyone have any suggestions?

Super excited.

A cab is the easiest. There's also Super Shuttle that's cheaper.

Can you easily walk from the terminal to Central Park?

You probably cannot leave your car beyond your debarkation date. We were on the June 17 cruise, and I wanted to leave my car longer than the 1:00 check out time. When arriving I asked whether I could pay for an additional day, and I was told in no uncertain terms that I must be out by 1:00 on the day my cruise returns because the parking spots are needed for other cruisers. When I returned to the lot at around 12:45 to leave, however, there was no parking attendant there and I had to go find a security guard to lift the gate.

The walk to Central Park can be done, but it would be a little over a mile. You would walk out of the cruise terminal at 48th St & 12th Ave, and the closest point of Central Park is Columbus Circle at 59th St and 8th Ave.

nikknyc,
Thank you so much for your message. I was thinking that we would arrive at LaGuardia and then buy tickets at the airport for NYC Airporter to take us to Port Authority. Then just walk to our hotel, which is near-by. I also assume that we can take our children on the bus. Please let me know if you see any flaws in this plan -- yes, it is my first time to NYC if you couldn't tell :)

Post-cruise, I was thinking of just using the DCL transportation back to the airport.

Thanks again!
