NYC CRUISES PLANNING/INFO ThREAD!

Question for New Yorkers:
I just called John's Pizzeria for reservations. They said they only take reservations for parties of 15 or greater. How long do you think our wait will be on a Friday evening, around 5:30pm. (we are a group of 6 -- 4 adults, 2 children)

Thanks!

Question about Penn station and Amtrak...if we leave the ship and return to Penn station via taxi, is there a way for them to store our luggage so we can do some sight seeing? or at least get lunch? We have a 3pm train out of the city..that should give us a good 5.5-6 hours in the city.

Do a Google search. From what I've read there is luggage storage (charge per bag) at Penn Station. You will need to show you have a ticket for a train leaving that day. Apparently the luggage storage area is a little difficult to locate.

I've been looking at hotels for our stay in NY the night before our cruise in August and am wondering if any one here as stayed at the InterContinental New York Barclay or either of these, Holiday Inn New York City Midtown-31st St or the Holiday Inn on 57th Street? Any info would be great!! Thanks!

I am thinking about getting the "Beer Gift" for my DH. I understand it is $14.95 for a souvenir beer mug and then you get a larger sized beer for the price of a smaller one. I saw this in the gift section of the DCL website. Wondering if this should be done ahead of time or if I can do it right when we get on the ship?

Also wondering, can this be used in the dining rooms and/or by the pools? I don't think it would make sense to get it if it can only be used in the various bars.

Thanks so much....on the August 12th NYC to Canada cruise....:cool1:

I personally haven't done it but from what I remember, yes you can buy it onboard, yes it can be used all over the ship and so you know, they take the mug back every time and give you a different one, you get a card I think that you show to get your larger beer for the smaller price, it's nice because you don't have to lug an empty mug around with you everywhere!

Will the taxi drive know where to take us if I say I'm going on the Disney Magic at the Port of New York? Is there any other specific information I need to tell him? Is there a specific pier # or something? There is nothing on my documents except Port of New York.

Thanks:)

Manhattan Cruise Terminal. When we left we were docked at Pier 90 when we arrived back in NYC we were at Pier 88. They are all right next to each other and you will be able to see the Magic.

I believe the Magic will be tied up at pier 88.
It should be the pier next to the U.S.S. Intrepid.

Of course we'll have the same problem on Friday morning- we're hoping that we'll be able to see her from the head of the pier.

HTH!

The taxi will enter the Manhattan Cruise Terminal via the ramp at 55th & West Side Highway.

Our hotel is within a couple of blocks of the Cruise Terminal.
Would it be hard just to walk to the terminal?
We're staying at 48th and 11th.

Our cruise is not until September but we are also staying at that hotel. I'll look for your review. I was also thinking of walking but will take a cab if we have to.

Can you tell me the name of the hotel? I would think you could walk - from what I read the pier is at 12th and 49th.

We are taking a chance having an 11:30am flight our of LGA after our Canada cruise. Has anyone done a flight this early? How did it go? We plan to walk off our luggage and use a car service. How long does it take to get from the pier to LGA in Friday rush hour traffic?

The hotel is Ink48, and has very good reviews. It's a Kimpton hotel, and there's another in this chain that we usually stay at while we're in the city, so I'd expect that this one is of similar quality.

I'm just a bit concerned about the walk to the terminal, because when we board for the cruise, I'll be just two weeks out of my treatments. I've been hit by cases of fatigue, which means that if others behind us are in a rush to get to the terminal or ship- they'll have to go around us.

Ordinarily I'd have no issues with the walk- even with luggage, but as I've never experienced this chain of events before...... I just want to have a relaxing time with lots of FABs and time in the hot tub!

Anyway, we'll have a fantastic trip- all of us! And give us a wave as you run past us... :thumbsup2

Take a cab! It will only be about $10.

You should be fine as long as you're off by 8:00. Even with traffic that should give you plenty of time to make your flight. Laguardia is the closest of all the airports.

I have heard that Mickey dresses up like Uncle Sam at the terminal. Any thoughts on what time period he is there? We don't want to miss him.
Our check in time is noon.
Thanks!

We noticed people lining up to get pictures at about 11:30 a.m. Mickey may very well have been there earlier. He will also be available for pictures that night on the ship, as will Minnie, dressed in her Statue of Liberty costume.

Good to hear he (and Minnie as the Statue of Liberty) will be in costume that evening because we may miss him at the terminal.
THANKS!
