DH has to go to NYC over Thanksgiving for work. He's flying out at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday (11/25) and returning Saturday (11/28) at 7:00 am.

If DS and I travel with him it's $317 per person roundtrip plus a full day of vacation for me. And we'd have to get up at 4:00 a.m. We'd arrive in the city at 7:25.

If DS and I go at 4:45 it's $246 per person but we'd be traveling without DH so we'd have to pay additional transport of $60 (taxi to airport, taxi from la guardia to hotel). And we'd get to the city at 6:30 p.m. so it would be a "wasted" day. But I could work a 1/2 day and get a full night sleep.

What would YOU do? Help!!!

I'd stay home. Traveling at Thanksgiving is a MESS. If your flight leaves at 6:00 am I would be AT the airport by 4:00 since you would be traveling on the busiest travel day of the year-yikes. If you want to go, I would spend the extra money and go with DH for the same above reasons--2 adults with one child is better then one adult with one child in a busy, busy, busy airport.

It will be crowded in the city but its also a beautiful time of year.

I'd go early in the morning. You can sleep on the flight and then have a full day in the city.

And because I'm nosey, what does your DH do that he needs to travel over a major holiday? :confused3 Okay, you don't really need to answer. I'm just nosey. :flower3:

DH is a newspaper sportswriter. He covers primarily Duke Basketball and Football. Duke is scheduled to play in a tournament at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 25 and 27.

I did this trip with DH in 2003 before DS was born. It was a lot of fun but I know that DS will just be amazed at the city. I'm excited to take him.

The BEST Thanksgiving EVER was when Duke played in the Maui Invitational in 2001. We had 9 days in Maui with the hotel mostly paid for (we extended the trip 2 days), DH's food and flight paid for. I think we paid $2000 out of pocket. It was wonderful!!!! Even though the flight was 16 hours each way on 3 different planes with 3 different airlines.

I love a job with fringe benefits. And I'll keep good thoughts for you that Duke goes back to Maui soon. :thumbsup2 Enjoy your trip to NYC.

I work for a French company and DH keeps wanting me to go on a business trip to Paris so he and DD can tag along. His only reason for going - Disneyland Paris. :rotfl2: I had to remind him that there were others things to see besides a French speaking Mickey Mouse. :lmao:
