My oldest daughter was so mad at me the other night, she was in tears! :earseek: We have had a mouse in the house for a couple months now (now the pet variety!). First, I noticed it munching it's way through the snack closet. OK...thought if I removed the supply of food, it would get the idea and leave on it's own. That didn't work!! When I pulled the kids winter boots out of the attic, I noticed that it had eaten holes in my younger dd's boots as well as my NEW ones from last year!! OK...now I'm getting a bit miffed. Finally, when we were getting ready to bake cookies, I noticed that it is now making it's home in the drawer under my oven....there are "little souveniors" all over the cookie sheet!!! ICK! My DH got a trap and set it in the drawer. Within 15 minutes, you LOUDLY hear the trap snap and then the brief scurrying in the metal drawer. :scared: She thinks I am the most awful person in the world for not allowing her to catch this mouse and let her keep it as a pet. She doesn't understand that mice carry germs and I really didn't want to risk anyone getting sick.

Why couldn't this thing just take the hint and leave?! :(

Poor little mousy.:( But hey, he had the opportunity to go and he didn't. That's the way the old cookie crumbles.;)

ugh! We had a MICE invasion 24 years ago at our brand new home, when I was pregnant with our first DS. We had so many traps set out - I'd be eating breakfast and hear a "snap!" You put up with it a lot longer than I did! They are def not the "pet" kind of mouse - not that I'd have that kind either!

Sorry your daughter is mad but she will get over it. WE had a huge mouse infestation after Hurricane Andrew. Took traps and cats to solve it.

Eeeeeew! We've had mouse problems at different places we've lived but none so far here - knock wood. When we lived in our first house and DS9 was a newborn, I remember sitting on the couch in the lr one day feeding him as a mouse walked across the carpet in front of me - and we had three indoor cats at the time!

I thought you had a cat, why didn't the cat get it??

I took comfort that as long as I have cats, I won't have mice, but now I am not so sure!!

Sabrina had been sitting in front of the oven every night when the mouse was loose. I, at first, thought the mouse was hiding under the oven. I didn't really mind that too much....just when he moved his house inside the drawer did he push me a little too far!! :earseek: I am honestly surprised the cat didn't catch it. This is the same cat who has terrorized the paper boy, caused the UPS man to beep the truck horn for me before attempting to deliver any package and who went after a doberman carrying a tree branch (not stick...BRANCH!) without even hesitating!! Once, there was a small flock of birds living in our neighbors bush that sits next to our driveway. These little birds would sit on the side mirror of the van and would leave....ah....droppings.....all down the side of the van!! We used to chase them away, but seconds later, they would come back to look at themselves. One day, I got so mad, I let the cat loose and yelled to her "Go get a birdie!!" Within 5 minutes, I see the cat sitting on the window sill, waiting to come back inside. I opened the door and in struts the cat. She drops a bird at my feet!!!! :hyper: She is looking quite happy with herself too! I am also happy to report that this little birdie was not dead!! It took off flying through the house!! I spent the next half hour trying to shoe it outside (with the cat chasing it as well!!) Can't figure out how a little mouse gave her a run for her money!!

Next time try using a humane trap rather than your traditional trap. Then she can help to "set him free" outside once she understands he's not the kind you can keep in the house.

Last winter, a friend caught a mouse in one of those sticky traps. He then felt so bad for it he got out the exacto and cut the cardboard around his little feet. Have often thought of that little mouse scurrying away on his little snow shoes!:hyper:

At least you used a spring trap. We had a similar problem with a single mouse a few years ago and did nothing until it started leaving droppings in the kitchen drawers. We then set out poison. DH found the little mouse after it had consumed the poison and before it died. :( We swore we'd never do that again.
