From those who took the Bahamas cruise out of NY previously that stopped at port canaveral do you remember what dinner and show was like that evening. I imagine the ship is pretty empty until quite late so maybe no show? What is dinner like? Is it low key? Wondering if I want to convince the family we should get back on board before our late dining.

Well, in 2012 it was a movie night (Brave) and the menu was the Master Chef one. There's only one NY itinerary Navigator posted over on Scott's blog.

I actually stayed on the ship in PC during one of the NYC cruises. Ship was empty except for crew and less then 50vpassengers. Don't remember the menu that night but at least 1 MDR was open(possibly 2) and it was open seating. Serving teams were all mixed up depending on who was given the day off. Dress code was very relaxed that night because many were coming directly from the parks to eat. Don't remember how late they served dinner.

The brilliance of Disney!!! As a NYC Magic cruiser, I am so excited about our Disney Day! As with most everyone else. When I think about it though, WOW!! No wonder Disney is what it is.

They are giving over 2000 people a "free" ticket into THEIR parks. (free means the cost was added to the cruise fare) Bus them to the parks, essentially taking them an hour away from the food source they have already paid for by paying for the cruise. Now they have to pay Disney again to eat. Plus spend whatever they will spend in gift shops around the parks.
BRILLIANT!!!

Don't get me wrong..I love Disney and everything about it. They sure know how to get us to spend money though, don't they?

LOL yes they sure do! I'd love to get every minute in the parks but I'm starting to think that with the 7:30 am bus we are taking by the time 6pm rolls around we are going to be exhausted.

This sounds like just the right way to do it! Hopefully they aren't holding people to their early vs late dining times. Either way I think Room service will be very busy that night!

As a previous poster stated, in 2012, the dining was open seating in Lumierre's. I believe it was open until 9 p.m. I returned about 8:30 and headed right there. Cabanas was also open and it was open until much later to accommodate so many people returning to the ship at different times. Disney did a great job with the Port Canaveral day.

In 2012, we got back very early from our Port Canaveral adventures (didn't go into the parks) and I loved how Disney had dinner set up. It was in Lumiere's and was open seating and even then, the dining room was very empty (on our cruise, they said there was 102 people who did not get on the busses for WDW) and I doubt many of the WDW people made it back before 8pm and a few busses trickled in between 8 and when they closed Lumiere's. I felt bad for the crew that didn't get off the whole day but we did have some very enjoyable conversations with the crew onboard -- around the pool, the dining room servers we had, and around the ship until later in the evening when everyone was headed back. We thought it was a very unique afternoon/evening onboard (and even the dining room staff was enjoying the change in pace).

Personally I would NEVER go to WDW from PC and back, I cant handle the parks without going to me room for a break : )

Yeah im actually considering booking a room just to have a break during the day, that or just head back when we're tired, even if it's only early afternoon.

We are crossing our fingers they offer this fall 2018, but oh my goodness I didn't even THINK that this would be possible. You would have the whole ship to yourself!! That would be so cool!

...and here we are planning to get as much of the 4 parks in as possible before we crash and burn. LOL
That's our plan too but leave the ship at 7:30 and get back to the ship at possibly 11pm? I'm thinking that by 2:00 Me and the kids are going to be a cranky mess and no one will be enjoying themselves! We'll be up at 6 for a 7:30 MK bus then rope drop for MK, we have 3 or 4 rides we want to do then a dole whip, monorail over to Epcot for the new Soarin and Frozen and eat lunch at food and wine, take a boat over to HW studios (this is where I think I'll be about to pass out!) mostly just to say we hit the park, kids and hubby do Star Wars and mom sits in a lounge with a drink! Taxi to AK for dinner, a safari at sunset and to watch the street performers they now have at night and if it's open (which is highly unlikely) we'll stay for the ROL show which we were supposed to see on our trip this past April! I just don't know if I'm going to make it! A room at an Epcot area resort would be nice to lay down and put up my feet before the second part of the day but I can't justify spending $400 for an hour with my feet up! Maybe we'll stop by the beach area at one of the Epcot area resorts and I can find a lounger!

Can the "free" tickets be upgraded? We have annual passes and were wondering if we could use the tickets at a later date or upgrade them to an annual pass when the current ones expire.

The ticket you get from DCL are only good on the day the ship is in port.

I don't think you can just "pop" in and use a resort's facilities unless you are staying there.

I believe it's only the pool areas that are restricted to resort-only guests; oh and fitness centers. Beaches, restaurants, shops, recreation activities, etc. are generally available to anybody.

Yes this is my understanding also. I've never had a problem resting at one of the resorts beach areas, its usually pretty unused especially in the middle of the day.

If it were solely a money decision, I'd guess that they would NOT have a day in the theme parks. That is, I would guess that it's a money LOSING proposition, as I would guess that the average profit from food and beverage and merchandise spend in the park for cruise ship guests is LESS than what it costs Disney to get them there and back on the buses, as well as all the extra labor required at the port.

Except you're forgetting...undoubtedly, the cost of bus transport, park admission and personnel needs has been incorporated into the cruise rate.

Exactly. And considering the itinerary is four sea days, CC and PC the New York cruises have quite a premium attached when compared to cruises leaving Port Canaveral. People are kidding themselves if they think any of the WDW day is 'free'.
