hey well i need to lose about 30pounds. well i was thinking about ordering nutrisystem. i don't like diet pills. well has anybody tried this? does it taste good? is the cost really worth it? please let me know something thanks!!!:)

They are selling the little buckets (like toddler style microwave meals) at the area Big lots.

Proper portions and healthy foods are a much better option, but to each their own.

I ordered a one week supply from QVC for about $80. I returned it two days later. It was disgusting!!!
I finally broke down and tried Jenny Craig. I joined with the 20 for $20 deal. After two weeks, I joined fully. The food is good and it is the only "diet" I have ever been able to stick to for an extended period of time.
I have lost 30 pounds since February!!!
I still have more to go.
If you want to try Nutri System, make sure you have some kind of money back guarantee. It works for some, but not for me.

that stuff contains so much chemicals and preservities, skip it and go to the bookstore and buy a good healthy cooking cookbook, and get everyone in the house eating healty, and walk everyday!

Much better for you!

You'll definitely lose weight if you use NutriSystem food. Because it's so gross that you probably won't be able to eat it for more than a couple of days. Save your money (IMO).

I agree with this. I recommend Ellie Krieger's cookbook, "The Food You Crave." The recipes are healthy, delicious, and easy to make. I've been cooking meals from this book since March and have noticed a huge change in my body.

Have you tried Weight Watchers? It teaches you how to eat properly and the correct portions. My biggest problem with some of those 'diet' plans is that once you stop eating their food, you are right back where you started because they don't teach you anything.

I have been doing WW since the end of January and have lost 36 lbs. and I am continuing to lose. I have been on a cruise this summer and only gained 1.2 lbs. because I knew what to eat and how much (I did splurge on the desserts--and that's okay once in awhile!) WW teaches to you incorporate those eating habits into your 'real' life. (Plus, they realize that our generation was raised in the "clean plate club" :lmao: )

Could I have done it without WW? Probably, but I wouldn't have stuck with it as long or seen as much success. There is something about weighing in each week that makes me accountable, however they also offer their program online so that you don't even have to attend meetings.

If you are going to spend money on a weight loss plan, at least check it out. They have been around forever and they really do work.

Best of luck in whatever you choose! :goodvibes

I agree with the PP - Nutrisystem might not be your best choice. I actually work as a Lifestyle Coach...I talk to A LOT of people who have tried many different "diets". Nutrisystem does work to lose the weight, but it does not teach you how to eat. I always suggest getting started on an exercise program and just become more aware of your eating habits. You don't have to make drastic changes to begin to see success. I have had a lot of people tell me about their success with weight watchers (although we don't endorse any diets). Either way, good luck on your "journey"!!

My boyfriend's dad lost almost 100 pounds doing Nutrisystem! He lives on his own and it was easy for him to do. However, you do have to buy fresh fruits and veggies (and other fresh foods) that are not included. For some reason I remember his dad having Nutrisystem stuff, fresh apples, and cheese in his fridge...and that was it! LOL! :confused3 :rotfl: I can see how it would be hard if you have a family or live with someone else. I agree with other posters, that if you're going to be tempted to eat something your kids are eating, better to eat a small portion of that and other healthy things, rather than your Nutrisystem and be left craving something else...or eating Nutrisystem + something else, which defeats the purpose. However, if you think you can do that, more power to ya! :cool1: :thumbsup2

My MIL was here over the fourth of july, and pointed out that they keep having to switch spokespeople, so they must not be keeping weight off.

I actually started a week ago. I have lost 3 lbs so far. The food is ok. It's tolerable. I normally would eat Lean Cuisines, so it is kind of the same. I lost weight previously on WW and did very well. I tried again and it just wasn't working for some reason. I decided to try Nutrisystem and it is working. You always feel full. I also heard that Jenny Craig's food was better and I was going to try it, but I just hated the fact that you had to meet with a counselor (or on the phone). I just don't want that. I like that I am eating more fruits and vegetables now. For me, since I know the WW program, I don't think I'll have a problem with maintenance, once I get to my goal weight.

I would like to second whoever said Weight Watchers. I find it to be the most versatile and effective method of weight loss. It teaches you how to eat in the real world, unlike many of the diets out there that simply take away real food.

I spoke with a rep from both companies last night trying to decide which program to follow for DH & me. JC is 3X's (YES 3X's) the price of NS. DH & I did NS about 3 years ago, lost the weight but regained when we both quit smoking recently (about 1 year ago for me and 6 mos for him) - we were geared up for JC until I called and found out the cost of regsitration and then food + shipping - NS gave us a nice discount for returning and still free shipping.

WW never did work for me - I was like some crazed lunatic - food was ALWAYS on my mind....it was more work than necessary. DH & I both need a regiment of what when and how much - and for the cost - we get that + counselors (if we WANT - our choice) with NS.

DH & I work full time, I go to school PT and we have 3 growing boys, the last thing I needed was to think about food.....

OP - good luck to you - what works for one does not necessarily work for another - you have to make the choice and see what happens -

As far as switching spokesperson - you could say that they gained weight or you could say more people have joined and are out there promoting a system that worked for them. You could say the samething about JC....

To anyone who is fighting weight loss - good luck it is a struggle no matter what path you choose - keep in mind that excercise is a large part of weight loss - you need cardio and strength training - combined with sensible eating (no matter the choice) you will lose fat!!!

Take care!!!

I lost 35 lbs 3 years ago and I've kept it off (that's my audition phrase, lol) by going to the gym and slowly increasing workout time/speed/incline on the treadmill (I now use the elliptical because it's lower impact and more full-body workout), and by watching every calorie I ate, which is not as hard as it seems.

I started reading every label on every food item I bought. I still allowed myself my favorite M&Ms, but the portion size only (I'd pour them into a quarter-cup measure and eat from that) and just include that for my daily calorie total. I've fluctuated about 10 lbs up and down over the 3 years, but I can take it off easily by restricting calories and increasing exercise. That's really the "secret", less in and more out. And once you get started, you'll wonder how you could have ever lived any other way.

I joined Bally's and had a personal trainer help me a bit at the beginning. If that's in your budget (what you had planned on spending on Nutrisystem, maybe?) you might want to check out gyms in your area.

Good luck! And have fun, think of it as fun and not work, and it makes it so much easier.

I used it and lost 20lbs. Went off gained it all back. The food is full of preservatives and other things that your body does not need.

a lot of people went off it, and bought lean cuisines instead!

I did NS last year and lost about 20 pounds. Some of the food is really gross. But, some of it, I actually liked. The pastas were good, the burgers were ok, the pizzas were good. The cookies were good. The portions are SMALL......:lmao: :lmao:

That is where the quick weight loss comes into play, drastic caloric intake reduction coupled with small portions.

What I was not a fan of was the promotion that was run where you get a week free, NS picked the food you got to eat. So, that is when I found out there was a lot of yukky food in their offering.

Does it work, yes? I would do it again if I had to drop some weight in a short period of time.

Good luck!

me and my hubby just started nutrisystem on Saturday. So far the food has been ok. You want to pick your own. If you get the favorites they send all kinds of gross stuff. Thats' what my hubby got. I picked my own. I got lots of pasta and lots of chocolate. The food is small portions. But I haven't been hungry. You had your own fruits and veggies. and you can have yogurt and milk.
The best part is I am dedicated to sticking to it. I spent over $250 on food for nutrisystem I am not not going to eat it. I went out yesterday with the kids to run errands and normally I would have no will power. We would get candy in the checkout or run through a fast food. But I have done really good I haven't cheated once. I hope I can continue to have the will power next month when the nutrisystem is gone.
So far I am loosing weight.
Good Luck!
And if you order nutrisystem make sure you check the internet for coupon codes. I was referred by a friend so I got $30 off and She got a $30 coupon. And because both me and DH signed up he got $50 off.

Nutrisystem worked for me. Twice. ;)

Once in 1992 I lost 58 pounds. After gaining it all back :sad2: , I did it again in 97 and lost 43 pounds before a bad gallbladder took me out of it.

I liked that most of what you ate came pre-packaged, so there wasn't a whole lot of meal prep. Also, I liked that the plan had you eating throughout the day (breakfast, AM snack, lunch, PM snack, dinner and evening snack) so even if you were hungry, you were never more than a couple of hours from eating again. I like the weekly meetings, too--this was before it was online, so we went in for weigh-ins and a weekly class. The accountability helped me stay on track.

I didn't like how it made me feel. It was a high-carb, low-fat plan, and it had me on a blood-sugar rollercoaster. I'd get pretty shaky sometimes, especially in the evening before dinner. Maybe they've changed the composition of the meals since then, but back then, I'd get sugar cravings pretty bad. I didn't like the fact that you still had some meal prep--salads, side dishes, etc. And I didn't like the cost.

Would I do it again? Probably not. It's hard for me to maintain that way of eating for the long term. But like I said, maybe they've changed it since I did it, and it may work great for you. Good luck!

DITTO!!! I've lost 97 pounds on WW over about a year and a half. It's a whole lot cheaper than NS or JC. It's also much easier to incorporate into your everyday life. WW also has a great on-line support system as well as E-tools with recipes, message boards, recipe builder to help you figure points, etc. I LOVE WW!
