Nursing pumps

I used the Avent pump at work [we nursed to 16months], so for a full year 2x day...it did a great job and went right into the bottles we were using.

I used a Medela pump in style as well.
Much better than some of the others I tried first.

Thank you so much for all the replies. I copied and pasted all your responses and sent them to her in an email. She was happy to receive them and she's looking them over. She said she'll let me know when she gets home from the hospital which one she wants. She's a little nervous with tomorrows events. She goes to lab tests and paperwork in the morning at 6 or so.

I have to say, I live away from her and I'm getting excited myself. I've already started shopping for Christmas for the little one.

Well let me be the fist to say congratulations to the new auntie! I became an auntie for the 2nd time this summer to my nephew (my niece is living in the middle east with my brother :sad2: so I never get to see her).
It's a great feeling! It's especially nice cuz it's not yours, and you don't have to worry about raising it "right"!

Congrats again!

I wanted to jump in and add my vote for the Medela Pump In Style. I was given a Dr. Brown's pump and could never even get it to work much less get anything out. I then got the Medela and it worked really well.

Another Medela Pump-In-Style Advanced fan! :thumbsup2 I used the Medela Symphony (hospital grade) and the PIS after two c-sections and had great success!

Very true and I have 2 girls, so the boy is such a nice change.

Another vote for the Medela Pump in Style! I have the PIS with the "Metro Bag" and this is what my mom bought for me. She also bought extra bottles for storage for me too!

Just an FYI . . . I noticed if the Medela bottle shows 4 ounces and I pour the contents into my Dr. Browns bottles, Dr. Browns will show 3 3/4 ounces. This is just an FYI for you!

I use my Pump four times a day and have been since I returned back to work at the beginning of February. I'm looking forward to being able to retire the pump and wean my daughter, but it looks like my daughter isn't ready to be weaned! :confused3

Is she returning to work and will she be pumping while at work? Or does she need something that is just for occassional use?

If she is returning to work and will be pumping a lot, I would recommend either the Medela Pump in Style or the Ameda Purely Yours. These are the 2 pumps that really are the best for moms who need to maintain their supply and pump for baby while away from baby.

I have both of these pumps and they are both great but I much preferred the PIS. I found that I was able to get more milk pumped with the PIS. If she's planning on breastfeeding for a long time, then I would definitely look at the PIS. However, if she isn't planning on using it for a long time, I wouldn't spend a lot on one.

My favorite was the Avent MANUAL pump. I had an electric one and it did not express the milk as well as the manual. Not to mention I felt like I was on a dairy pumping line with those two suction cups attached to my breasts (Note to tag fairy: this is not one I would like to have tagged):rotfl2:

I will concur that there is a dairy-sorta feel to the whole process, but it was sure nice to be able to fully pump in 1/2 the time. I much preferred being home with my baby :)

I use a Medela Symphony at home and a Lansinoh double electric (it's the same as the Ameda Purely Yours pump but is purple instead) for work/travel. I exclusively pump so I've needed some pumps that can really 'put up and shut up' so to speak. I used a Medela PIS for a while am much happier with the set up I have now. You can buy the Lansinoh pump at any Babies R Us. As someone else stated, though, the downside is that the pump parts are a little harder to find. If you are willing to just order things off the internet, though, it's not so bad. I've ordered all spare parts that way.

One thing I would recommend is that whatever pump you go with sure to tell your sister she may need bigger flanges. From what I understand, the majority of women out there tend to need larger sized flanges than the ones that come with the pumps. For both pumps I use, I had to upsize on the flanges.

And if she ends up needing to exclusively pump like I did make sure she rents a pump. Most pump manufacturers have provisions in their warranty that void it if the pump is used too much in a single day. The motors in your standard store bought pumps aren't designed for mega pumpers.
