Ok here's my situation....I finally graduate with my BSN soon :cheer2: (first degree was art, yeah useful...I know... ) and we absolutely love the boardwalk area resorts. That being said how does the nurse discount work for the swan and dolphin? Are only certain dates available? How far out can you book with the special rate? Will it still feel as Disney? We usually have stayed at the BC but that is such a significant discount how could we not take advantage of it. Which is better swan or dolphin? Sorry for so many questions but I figured if anyone could steer me in the right direction it would be you guys! Thanks all!

Congratulations on getting your BSN from another RN with the same. :cheer2:

If you're flexible with your dates your chances of getting the discount improve, they aren't available all the time. Look on this website for some discounts now through DU Travel. You can also call S&D and ask but again it's hit or miss IME, especially if you're booking far ahead.

We stayed at the Dolphin last month and we loved it (no nurse discount but a good rate nonetheless). Very Disney to us - could see Tower of Terror from our room, doesn't get much more Disney than that! It's a very short walk to the Boardwalk area. Service was excellent, and the grounds were beautiful and very active. Starbucks coffee is available which is a huge plus (and don't tell me you don't like coffee, if you're a nurse you have to, LOL).

Lots of threads here on the differences between S&D, it's personal preference. From my understanding Swan has a more quiet feel and Dolphin, larger. Tubbi's is at the Dolphin if that matters.

Best of luck! :wizard:

We think the Dolphin is VERY Disney...it's walking distance from our favorite park (Epcot) and a hop, skip, and a jump (or boat ride!) from the Boardwalk and MGM.

I have never stayed at the Swan but one of the many things I love about the Dolphin is the variety of restaurants (seven or eight) including inexpensive places for everything from breakfast to a midnight snack.

I'm an RN but, for the two times we've stayed at the Dolphin, we got a better deal on Travelocity than even the nurses' discount would give us. Don't forget to check the home page of the DISboards for current specials--there is a DISboard special for $139/night right now that is better than the $149 nurses' rate!

Congratulations first off!

DH and I just returned 2 weeks ago from the Swan using my nurses discount. We love the boardwalk area and can't beat the $149.00 a night vs. $300.00 plus at the disney resorts. We have used the discount twice and stayed at the Swan both times. We like the smaller resort and the queen beds. The Dolphin is more convenient for a late night snack though. The discounts are hit and miss. Offered some days and not others, not sure of why this is or the reasoning. But as someone suggested, just try some dates, they may be available.
We think it has a Disney feel. We have never stayed there with the kids, because we've always got lucky and got other discounts at the Disney resorts. But if we didn't and the S/D was available with my nurse discount, we'd certainly have no problem taking the kids there.

I have used the nurse discount as well and love the Dolphin! You can't beat the location, and there is nothing that feels more "Disney" than looking out your window and seeing the boardwalk or Epcot!

DH and I are both RNs, we were able to use the nurses discount for our honeymoon this past Sept/Oct.. It was $99.00 a night. The Dolphin was nice, but it is huge!!! Be prepared to walk alot and it can be very confusing with 3 sets of elevators!!! Tubbies was great, took advantage of getting their mug for coffee and drinks. Has to be the best coffee at WDW, they use Starbucks! It was 'disney', however, keep in mind it is a convention hotel. There are alot of conventioners there!!! A lot! The pool was nice too.
We didn't eat at either hotel, always opting to walk to Epcot or the Boardwalk. You must walk over to the Boardwalk Bakery early one morning for coffee and pastries; make sure you sit out at one of the tables on the boardwalk. This was wonderful!!!! We went early, around 7 or 730. Have a great time!!
