I am traveling with my new little man in a few weeks (he will be 6 weeks old)

This may sound like a silly question but if I buy nursery water for his milk that is sold in the supermarkets, do I need to boil it?

Or if you have travelled with a wee one, what did you do with the bottles? :confused3

Cheers

Hi we boiled drinking water for our babies bottles. However I know make one bottle at a time is promoted now.

Is it for use on the plane or once in USA?

Cabin crew will give you boiled water on the plane if you give them the bottle and put your own formula in when they return it to you. Hope this helps :)

just a (maybe) silly question, is there a reason not to use bottled spring water ?

we used to boil tap water when we had no other choice, but we always used spring water right off the bottle like everyone else here
so is this a UK recommandation or is it related to special needs, or am I missing something ?

This is for once I am there.

I was planning on taking enough boiled water and bottles to last the plane journey and until we get to the villa and then a few cartons just incase.

This is the Nursery Water website.

From reading it looks like you can add directly without boiling. However as it has added things in it you might be better with spring water & boiling to reduce the chance of an upset tummy.

I have no personal experience as DD was breastfeed and when we took her at 9 months I just gave her spring water to drink (straight out of the bottle) in additional to feeds as she was mostly weaned.

Brilliant!

I have just checked out the website and will just be boiling spring water.

One less thing to think about!

Thanks you!

I recall that when DD was small we were told not to use certain brands of spring water, or any mineral water at all, as they had additives which were harmful to babies. I'd say ask your midwife or health visitor for help!

I think you need to check the sodium and sulphate levels in bottled water. Some are ok and have very low levels while others are too high for babies

Yes you shouldn't give babies bottled water, it's not good for them at all.

Boiled water or special baby water (assuming that's what nursery water is, I've never heard of it before lol) is good.

There might be a mix up with bottled water, we're advised to drink bottled water when in Florida but only because the water tastes weird. And that is for adults and children, not babies, they should not drink mineral water.

yes i think its something to do with flouride added to bottled water , i have also never heard of nursery water

also you say you will take enough water with you for the plane, last time we went away i did this and it wasnt alowed through security as you are not allowed to travel with fluids,

once through security there was a boots so i bought cartons of the ready made formula

when we went on a 2 week hol I took cartons for everyday to use son was 9 months but what ever water you buy I would still boil it

Hmmm......this is a little more complicated than I first thought. Thanks for all the advise. I think I will nip in and see the health visitor just to be on the safe side.

Whoever knew water could be so difficult!:rotfl:

Publix sells 'Drinking water' I don't believe it is a mineral water - just filtered.

I would just use that boiled. Its not like you are planning on living there it is only for a couple of weeks and it is the build up that is an issue I believe :)

This is right, look for the plain filtered water and boil that. It is just tap water put through a filter with none of the fancy additives. I bought bottles of that water myself to bring into the park, no need to pay for the more expensive brands. Now I use a Camelback water bottle with filter in it.

Plain tap water boiled would be fine for formula too, but the baby may notice a different taste so I'd recommend filtered.
