So, backstory: my toddler does not do well in childcare. I'm a SAHM, so the only childcare he is in is when we go to church on Sunday or my bible studies on Tues/Wed. He cries for the first 15 mins, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Will the nursery contact me if they can not console him and do you know if I will only be charged for the time he spends in there or the entire time reserved?

I'm probably worrying for nothing, but I don't want to get upset either way so I need to prepare myself for the situation.

Thanks!

They will definitely contact you if they can't settle him. They try for somewhere between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on how unsettled they are. If you tell them that you have a reservation at the spa or Palo or similar then they will try not to call you unless really necessary, but they won't let him be upset the whole time.

I'm not sure on the charging issue - I missed the text and by the time I got back to them my son had settled so I left him there.

Ok, good to know! Ty for your reply!

Take your kiddo to the nursery during Open Houses that way he'll be able to explore and get comfortable while you're around. There's open house on embarkation day and on our cruise every morning from 8-9am. I'm not sure about the crying charging thing but I do know if you reserve 4 hours and take him out at 3 you'll be charged the whole time period.

Just got off the Dream two weeks ago. I have a 1 year old and 2 year old both with separation anxiety. I'm a SAHM as well and they've never been to daycare or have been babysat by anyone other than family. With that said, I took the advice of others on here and took my boys to the nursery to check it out during open house. They had so much fun playing they didn't want to leave. Two days later we dropped them off and they did great. There were a few tears but the women working in there did a fantastic job playing with them. My oldest wasn't ready to leave when we came to pick them up.

They will call or text your wave phone if they cannot calm the child down. There was one moment my 1 year old was upset and we got a text. I called to check on him and they said he was happy as can be!

If you pick them up before your reservation time is up you will be charged.

I have nothing but fantastic things to say about the nursery. They really went above and beyond! I had my fears as well (as all of us moms sometimes do). You have absolutely nothing to be afraid of. :)

This is extremely reassuring!!! Thank You!

Do you know if they have milk in the nursery, or bottle warmers? My son still likes an evening bottle of warm milk, so trying to prepare! Thanks :)

I've had 2 kids in the nursery, my daughter at 20 months and my son at 10mo (two different cruises). I was called back to the nursery for both of them because they were crying. I'm a SAHM also, but use the gym childcare and they never had a big issues here, I think I just hit it at the exact wrong time for both of them as far as their separation anxiety. I did go to the open houses.

I remember with my son the first night they tried to calm him a little longer (30-40min) and when we tried the next night they called me back within 15. I don't remember how we were charged for those times, but I do know after that we gave up and cancelled the rest of our nursery times and weren't charged for those.

After that we said we weren't cruising until they could both go to the kids clubs (same daughter who cried in the nursery at almost 2 didn't want to leave the kids clubs at 3). I'm sure most do fine and love it, but I do know for sure that they don't hesitate to call you back to get them.

Each time you drop your son off they have a little questionnaire of if he can have milk/juice/formula/snack/etc. along with notes for you to fill out. My oldest ended up having a snack and some milk one evening.

There are a limited number of bottle warmers available at guest services. Make sure to ask for one once you get onboard.

Every room comes with a fridge and every morning they have out small cartons of milk for breakfast. I got in the habit of grabbing the milk I'd need for the day and then storing it in our room. If you get on board and need some or if you didn't get any during breakfast - ask a cast member in cabanas and they'll be happy to grab you as many as you need :)
