Numbness of Forearm?

I will say though, without any other symptoms present that would be considered stroke related, I doubt that is the problem.

I just called and couldn't get into my doctor until August 26th. They scheduled me with another doctor but can't get in there until Tuesday morning. Now I am wondering do I just wait until I can see that doctor or try the Urgent Care an hour away.

I would wait if possible. An urgent care place isn't necessarily going to know and will probaly just presrcibe a painkiller or anit-inflamatiry or steroid. That may be all that you need, but it also might not be.

Did you have a mosquito bite on that arm? I'm severely allergic to mosquitos, when I get bitten, sometimes I would feel light numbness on that side of body. The last incident, I was bitten on my right shoulder blade and I felt numbness on my right arm for a day or two.

I agree, I do think it is a nerve issue.

My daughter was freaking out because it can also be a sign of a stroke.
Do you happen to have any hospital systems that do virtual visits?

Can't say it seems like a good idea to go driving an hour by yourself if you are looking to rule out stroke.

How are you feeling this evening @disneychrista

My arm is still numb. I’m fairly certain it is a nerve issue. Which means I’ll likely need testing. Better to wait and get those done at the local hospital vs one an hour away.

No other symptoms of stroke. If I thought for a second it could be a stroke I’d go to the ER.

UPDATE:

Went to the doctor today. She suspects carpal tunnel. She gave me a brace and ordered tests to confirm. She also offered to put me on modified duty but there is no such thing as modified duty at my job.
Good luck with it all! I go back to the surgeon next week so they can actually confirm which nerve is the problem for me. There is doubt that it is the carpal tunnel so I'm not sure what they're going to do or how they're going to do it. I've had the EMG for carpal tunnel, but apparently the test is different for others.

That stinks but is better than the scary stuff, but still it stinks.

The brace works very well, when mine acts up I sleep in it because it wakes me up in the middle of the night. It started when I was pregnant with my kids, when it is really bad holding my arms up over my head with the braces on is the only way to sleep until it cools down, and bending or crimping is a trigger. If you can to avoid salts as sodium contributes to swelling around the nerves and less swelling means faster healing.

It can be miserable, it isn't life threatening but it can be miserable nonetheless. Hope it goes away soon for you.

I'm glad you got to see a doctor. I had a similar experience quite a few years ago when my job was solely on the computer. I would wake at night and my arm would be numb and also curled up and I couldn't move it. I had to get up and try to massage it back. However, it wouldn't stay numb like yours. Once I was up in the day, it was fine.

I did got to the doctor and he said basically same thing - nerve damage from how I was resting my arms on the desk to type. He wrote up a note and facilities had to get me a new desk set up. It took them a while to actually do that, but I wore a brace at night and it helped tremendously. It was scary at first because of how my armed was locked into that curled position.

I agree about the brace. I've read it's better to wear it during the night so that's what I do when mine acts up. I also read about these stretches to do -- you basically make the letters of the alphabet with your hand (capital and small letters) and it's supposed help. I find minimal relief with that but will still do it when it hurts a lot.

Doctor called this morning regarding the tests she wanted to order and apparently there is no one to do them in town and I will have to go an hour away to do them. She also said there could be awhile before I get in for the tests. Then she said if the numbness doesn't go away after a week with the brace she would like me to get an xray of my neck.

In addition to my arm, I also had an xray of my foot that has been bothering me off and on for the past year. As suspected I have a bone spur. So my left foot has a wrap on it and my right hand has a brace.

please go to the doctor and rule out a stroke. If it's a pinched nerve and the pain/numbness has not been happening for months you should not have nerve damage yet. I highly recommend going to a physical therapist that specializes in hand, arm and neck. The stretches and strength training they give you can help you no longer have the issue. My doctor recommended sugary. I did not need it and have been pain free for 5 years. Do not let a nerve be pinched for a long time. You would have to get sugary for a damaged nerve and it a few stretches a day can keep you from the pain it's well worth it.

Went to the doctor and stroke wasn’t even part of the conversation. Carpal Tunnel is suspected but need more tests.

Those electrode tests take forever to get into try to make the apt soon. They have a needle attached to electrodes and tap your muscles looking to register how long a signal takes to move. It wasn't too bad for me since my CT is fairly far along but if I knew ahead of time I think I would have used lidocaine anyway so iI wouldn't feel a thing.

In the meantime Voltaren gel is super good at relieving pain and discomfort if the smell bugs you there are lidocaine creams that also work well and tend to be easier to find with fragrance, if you have lidocaine sunburn spray it might even help. Its weird it sort of feels numb but it hurts
