Number of points - what is better... 300 points, or 2X 150 points?

We are looking to buy a membership at DVC... and think 300 points might be a nice start.

Are we better off buying 300 points all in one membership... or would we be better off with the points in 2 memberships... even if the use year was the same for both?

If I wanted to give my 300 points to my 3 kids someday... would I be able to break up the 300 points into 3 100 point accounts?

You cannot break up a contract. We have 3 contracts rolled into 1 with a March use year. By rolled into 1, I mean that we happen to have one contract number for easier bookeeping on our part. That happens automatically when they have the same use year and you have added on from Disney, or if you are sure the resale you buy has the same wording of ownership. 200 BWV, 150 VB and 50 VWL points, and they would have to be sold as the place and number of points that they are. If you're buying from Disney and you want to eventually give 100 to each of your children, you would buy 3 100 point contracts. I think that it would be hard for you to find 3 resales of 100 points each with the same use year. Some people do not mind having different use years. Good luck in making your decision. Of course, if you're starting with 300 points, you can always say that you will buy 3 300 point contracts, and no more worries of splitting up a contract!

Bobbi,

So if you wanted to sell any of your properties... you would have to find a single buyer who wanted all 3? or can you sell just (as an example) the 150 VB units and keep the rest for yourself?

/Jim

We have one contract and plan to add on another of equal value, so that our two children can each have a piece of the magic.

Hi, no, each of the 3 can be sold separately, sorry for the confusion. After the main contract number, Disney puts a decimal point and each of the parts has it's own number, so when you sell you can sell XXXXXX. 01 or XXXXXX.03 and the others can stay.

Does this imply that it is easier to find big contracts to buy resale... and conversely... harder to sell big contracts? IE: would it be easier for me to find a 300-400 pt BWV or BCV resale than to find smaller contracts?

If I decide to buy SSR from Disney direct... would they sell me 3-100 point contracts, or is there a 150 point minimum per contract? I dont really want to buy 450 out of the chute.

/Jim

I don't know if Disney will sell you 3 -100 contracts, someone here, or your Disney guide will help you. It does seem that the smaller contracts "go" faster in the resale market and for more per point than the larger contracts. Have you checked the Timeshare store's listings? They are the advertiser on this forum, and there is a place to view current listings. There are other popular resalers, but this would be a good sample. There had been some 1000 point contracts for sale, I don't know if they're still around.

BCV seem to go the fastest and there are the fewest available. VWL are also hard to come by.

You got it

I think they will sell you three 100 point contracts.....not sure though, you could buy one 150 and two 100 point contracts, just give the 150 to the favorite kid and leave the 100 point contracts to the other two louses.

Buy 3 150 point contracts. You will never have enough points and the kids will need 150 later also. You can rent the extra points to pay your dues.

Richyams... thanks for the laugh.. I needed that today!

Nuthut... you are attacking my weakness... I am very susceptable to "creaping sell-up"... please don't make it worse for me :) (just kidding)

/Jim

I believe if you are making the purchase all at once you should be able to break up the contracts into 3 100 point segments. However, if you are susceptible to increasing your points, then I would go with the 3 150 points contracts and make the most of your points!! ;)

Update,

I think we are going to buy SSR after all... and have the 300 points split into two 150's. The kids will need to figure out a way to share even as adults... or maybe i get another 150 someday.

/Jim

Here's a thought, buy the first two at SSR, then get the third once they open the planned DVC resort on the Mars Outpost :p (or the oft rumored one at Contemporary, or my dream, Villas at AKL ::yes:: ).
:space:
Just a thought :teeth:

If you're buying from DVC, get 2 150 pt contracts. Yes, it's harder to sell and easier to buy larger contracts. If you end up buying resale, look at all your options then decide. It's not worth paying significantly more just to get smaller contracts.

I just bought 3 150 point contracts at SSR and think that is the way to go. The small contracts sell better and for more money. By having 3 contracts I can sell 1 and keep two or any combination. I was going to buy 2 150 but figured i would bite the bullet and buy 3 150. I am going to rent to friends and family ( at a good price $6 a point) in the beginning and I got them at $84 a point. I just knew I would want more in the future . Well good luck and take care.PS I got my last 150 points yesterday (5/20/04) for $84 a point at SSR but that was just for DVC members. My best friend would have to pay the $95.
