The entire foot or just part of it? It may be due to your shoes and the way your feet interact with them. For example, I have really flat feet and tend to roll them as I run, if I don't have shoes with the appropriate support, the balls of my feet to my toes tend to go numb.
Also, do you run on hard surfaces, on a treadmill, on gravel...etc? The way your foot impacts can also have an effect.

Hope it's not the shoes, I just recently replaced my old ones cause they were giving me blisters. Hope it doesn't happen on my next run, but if it does I'll go back to the store I bought them at.
If it happens again, it just might be the shoes, definitely take them back! You said they were chosen for you; did they have you run on a treadmill or look at your shoes before they gave you a pair?
