Sounds silly I know, BUT, I go to a gym that has a broad base in terms of membership. They have tennis courts, a large pool, indoor track, etc. Because they have all of this "stuff", they attract a lot of families and have a lot of children's activities, swimming, games, birthday parties, etc. Most of these children are too young to use the gender appropriate locker room and accompany there mothers into the ladies locker room. The locker room is large. The individual shower stalls are large with plenty of room to change or at least put on basic underwear. Most women use the private changing area and dress behind the curtain. It never fails however that at least a couple of times a week, someone has to walk around naked and do just about everything before they bother to get dressed; get weighed, chat, blow dry their hair, etc. If it were just women in the locker room, that would be one thing, but often there are little boys. I can't understand why someone would want to remain in a state of "undress" with little boys around. The mothers do their best to keep their children separated but its hard when they are going from one area of the locker room to the other. I don't get it when it is completely unnecessary.

I agree... open nudity when there is opportunity to dress privately (or, hey, at least use a towel or something!!!) is nothing other than a form of exhibitionism.

Even it is indeed exclusively women in the room, that doesn't mean everyone there wants to see you excessively flaunting around displaying your tata's and bits...

PS: If I am remembering correctly there have already been several controversial threads about children at various ages being brought into restrooms/locker rooms with their parent of the opposite sex...

Our gym banned kids of the opposite sex over the age of three. :woohoo:

I hated changing out of my suit with little boys around. Made me feel like a perv.

I don't know what those moms were thinking. I would never take a 5 year old kid in to see undressed adults of the opposite sex! And while I feel everyone should raise their own kids their own way, I didn't like being a party to that. I'm so glad the gym put a stop to it.

Wouldn't bother me but then in Europe nudity isn't such an issue (topless sunbathing etc.).

They were probably thinking they didn't want to send their 5 year old son into the mens' locker room, all by themselves, to get changed around a bunch of strangers. :confused3

I would agree except there is so much opportunity for privacy in this locker room. There are at least 6 showers with changing areas behind curtains, including a large handicap shower if one is "claustrophobic". The other thing is, these particular women do not seem to be making much of an effort to get dressed. I don't get that. I would want to send a five year old into the men's locker room. I don't know who is in there and if there is a problem, how do I retrieve him? There are other gyms in the town that seem more fitting for the 'strut your stuff' set. This just isn't one of them. They have nothing for kids to do, no pool, no reason to take them for an activity. Heck, this gym even has a "dress code". ;)

My gym has HUGE family changing rooms and moms still bring 6, 7, 8 yr old boys into the women's changing room. I'm a discreet changer, but I've been stared at by 7 and 8 yr old boys enough to creep me out a little. Why wouldn't the moms go into the family room?

There isn't a family room. There is a locker room for each gender.

Well, we disagree.

This dragging children of the opposite sex into locker rooms is a relatively new thing. People managed to get along without doing that for years. I raised 3 boys and managed to not take them into places where there were naked women.

It can be done. And now that our gym has banned it, it is happening again.

I don't flaunt anything. I rarely see anyone else do it...though I have on occasion. And they don't always have the bod to be flaunting, truth be told! But flaunting or not, people use locker rooms to dress and undress. Kind of the purpose of the locker room. If you're going to take your little girl into the men's locker room, you can't whine that she saw a *****, you know? That's what it is there for!

Again, it's fine with me if people want their kids seeing naked adults. But I don't want to be naked in front of 5 year old boys, so I appreciate that the gym put an end to it.

That is just it Dawn... whether you 'get' it or not, there are a lot of exhibitionist out there, and almost any gym can bring them in. I mean, the focus of any gym is a focus on ones body...

It doesn't have to be the 'hip' gym with the jivin' music and the juice-bar. Boy, can I remember when these started springing up like a craze years ago.

Oh, sorry. I guess I was just wondering why moms do this when there IS an opportunity to use a family room.

FTR, the only people I've ever seen walk around naked at my gym are the little old ladies that come in for water aerobics.

LOL! :rotfl:

Like this poster, I'm from Cleveland. And I second her on the old ladies being the #1 offenders. I don't know if it is regional or if all old ladies just say, "the hell with it - we don't care anymore." :)

Actually, I have to say, that nudity doesn't seem to be part of the "culture" of this gym. Given the amount of people that use the facility, it is a small minority. I guess it is very noticable when it happens.

That's lame....

Are there no other restrooms or anything at all?

I just never saw it as a problem since I do not dress in public and so their presence has never bothered me. I didn't pay much attention to the kids in the locker room until this woman started walking around naked! Heck, I don't even want to see her.

Maybe they've learned something over the years...

It doesn't really bug me. It's just people. Our gym had family rooms, and then open, single gender locker rooms with little changing stalls for people who weren't comfortable dressing out in the open. We all survived.

I always blow dry my hair while I'm naked. It feels weird to do it any other way. Maybe that's one reason they do it?

In the privacy of one's bathroom I can understand. In public? Not so much.

Or they could be doing it out of spite. "Maybe if I walk around here naked all the time, Jane Smith won't bring her son in here anymore." Afterall, SHE is in the correct gendered locker room and should be able to walk around in her birthday suit all she wants.
