Since the weather is getting warmer, my sister and I were talking about having a yardsale in a month or so. :goodvibes All the money I make is going into our Disney fund for our April 2013 trip. Anyone else planning yardsales? If so, where is your money going?

My sister and I are having a garage sale in early May with my proceeds going toward our August WDW trip! So glad it's garage sale season again. (For selling and buying!)

Now I just have to start organizing and sorting and getting stuff ready!:lmao: SOmetimes I think that is the most difficult part!

I'm seriously thinking about a yard sale, the extra $$$ would be nice for our August trip. BUT....I'm afraid, very afraid.:scared: We have years of stuff lurking in the attic & basement, and I wouldn't know where to start. Just the thought of sorting, and hauling it all out to the yard is freaking me out. If I don't have the yard sale soon, I may have to call 1-800-JUNK. LOL.

Never again. We don't get enough traffic at ours (either our house or the in-laws) to make it even remotely worth the effort.

We're having one, and putting the earnings toward our gas money for our June trip. :)

We had one a week ago today. We bought a new chest freezer with the money. Originally the money was going to go towards updating our half-bath, but Home Depot had a sale on the freezers, plus free delivery, so we couldn't pass it up. The chest freezer was on our list of things we want for the house, but because of the sale, we bought it sooner rather than later.

I was very happy with what we sold. We had some bigger things that sold right away for prices we wanted. Got rid of a ton of kids clothes and a ton of toys. I let my kids keep the money earned from the sale of toys, so they were very willing to part with some of their toys! It's amazing how much room we now have in our garage after getting rid of 6 items. DH wants to build an office in a corner of the garage, so we needed to free up some space.

It was funny because on Friday I was organizing the garage, cleaning, etc., and had the garage door open. Some ladies were visiting my neighbor and they saw what I was doing. They asked if they could look around at what I had out and ended up buying $50 worth of stuff right then! They also put some things aside to buy the next day because they didn't have enough money with them. The next morning they showed up right away and bought what they put aside and then more!

We are supporting our scout troop's yard sale and will donate to that. My oldest is going to Philmont in 2013 and so is Dh, so we have a lot of saving to do for that.

My house doesn't get traffic either, so having one here wouldn't be beneficial, and honestly, it is way too much work for me to even think of doing. So, stuff I don't want anymore is going to be donated.

We do hope to go to Disney in November if Dh's work sends him there again this year. That way our gas will be paid for and part of the hotel stay.

ITA!! It's not that we don't get enough traffic, as we get people all day. It's the people who come to them these days that are the problem!

We used to have a yard sale once a year, when the kids were growing up, in the 1990's. I would set up tables in our garage a few weeks in advance, then go thru each room in the house sorting out the stuff we wanted to get rid of. Then we cleaned and priced everything, and put them on the tables. The morning of the sale we would drag the tables into the yard, and did very well. We priced low, and took reasonable offers, and then after 12 noon announced that everything would be 1/2 price. (There was never very much left by then, and I just didn't want to drag it back in the house.) We would make anywhere from $300 - $600, depending on what we had. It would be a fun day, and the buyers were so nice.

Well, we did some redecorating a few years ago and decided to have another yard sale. It was a nightmare. People wanted to nickle and dime everything - even stuff I had marked for a quarter!!! We had 3 women fighting over some baskets, several people try to walk off with things, and when I sold a soccer house flag to one woman for fifty cents, another came over to me to say she had been looking at it before and demanded I give it to her instead as she "saw it first"!!!

I thought that may have been a "fluke" year, but we had one again last year and the same thing happened. I'm thinking it may be the economy, but I really had things priced low, and still was taking reasonable offers for things, but wasn't planning to give things away for free!! I ended up ending the sale early, boxing it all up, and driving it to Salvation Army to donate. So that's what I do now - donate!! :goodvibes

Good luck and hope you do well!

I'm having one in late Apr/early May to pull together some spending money for our trip, then another in August when my whole town participates in a county-wide yard sale weekend. I have some serious decluttering to do and a little extra cash never hurts!

We are having two sales. One next Fri/Sat for money but with reasonable offers. I need to price things but would rather they just make me an offer.

Then the next week it will be all out dirt cheap to free.

We are moving internationally and must have everything ready on 13 April. So we have a huge sale. Problem, we live in the mountains and get just the usual suspects. It will be hard to get rid of all the things so hence the free on the last Sat.

I need to have one. We have been cleaning out our closets and there is a lot of stuff that no longer fits or someone doesn't want. Our house is on the corner of the street so we gets lots of traffic.

It's just the setting up that I am lazy about. But, I think I will set up the tables in the garage and start organizing things there. Maybe by next weekend we will be ready to go.

We have one a year at our church in the parking lot and it is fantastic. I made over $200 and bought a ping pong table for $10. We had loads of people all morning. It was totally free as the church advertised and even gave us a big table to use. We brought other tables ourselves. I suggest trying to go with neighbors and have a block garage sale. You could try your church or even advertise for getting a group together in a park. The more people that come to it the better.

Our HOA is sponsoring ours 4/14. They advertise and we usually have an awesome turnout community wide.

Our town has a yard sale at the end of April every year and I CAN'T WAIT!! Our town is very small, but the participation and turnout is awesome- it is amazing how many out of state license plates I see that day.

I have 2 hampers full of DD's old clothes ready to price and another bag still in the attic- I even have a past customer who comes for pre-sale the day before! Most important, I need to get DD off her training wheels so I can sell her old bike and get the next size up!

This is yard-sale season in Phoenix, before it gets too hot to be outside.

My DD12 and her friend had a yard sale together this morning. They didn't have very much stuff (especially big things) so they only made about $60 but they think it's great. I like that it encourages them to go through their stuff without me harassing them to do it! Only thing I hate is getting up super-early on a Saturday to help them!

I am planning on for the end of next month. I've been de-cluttering over the winter and have lots of stuff boxed up. I've ebayed things I thought were worth the time, the rest will go to the yard sale, and anything left will be donated. I haven't done one in a long time, so I hope it's worth my time, and all proceeds will go to the vacation fund. We are going to France in the summer, and WDW next fall, so big travel year and every bit helps.

I'm going to ask the church across the street if we can use their churchyard, and see if the neighbours want to participate. Maybe that will bring out more people. I'm also not planning to price every thing, but I'll have a $1 table, a $5 table, etc. My main purpose is to get rid of this stuff, so I will price low.

Yeah, I'm not doing one at our house because we live on a road that isn't at all busy in a small town, so I'm doing it at my mom/sister's house. They live in a busy town on a busy road. The pain of that is boxing everything up and trucking it on over there, but I guess anything I don't sell, I'll just swing by Goodwill on the way home. My oldest son usually sells cans of soda at our yardsales to make some money for himself. He's such a little business man! LOL

What do you all use to tag your stuff? I want to put price tags on some stuff.

Stores (like Target, Walmart, etc) carry pre-priced colorful stickers that I use. They have several sheets in 1 package of $1, $3, $5 stickers, plus 25, 50 and 75 cent stickers, a couple blank ones to write in your amount and a Make an Offer sticker. I usually go through the cents stickers pretty quickly, so I also buy a package of blank colorful circle stickers that I can write the amount in.

My mom has been having yard sales since I was 9. I remember having to use masking tape when I was young. I'd write the amount on the tape and then rip it off to put on the item. What a huge pain that was! The stickers I use are so much easier and way less time consuming.
