Having sorted out new accommodation last week after being told the resort we'd booked (back in October  ) couldn't take us, I've just come home for lunch to find a letter from Thomson telling us our flight next Friday will be on a different aircraft and we can't have the Premium Seats we'd booked

Straight on the phone to their Customer Services to ask if we can have Extra Legroom seats instead. After an automatic "No, sorry" reaction from the guy there, he then said "Hold on and I'll check" and came back to say we can have Extra Legroom seats (at normal cost). I'll believe it when (if? :rolleyes2 ) it happens, but at the moment I can do no more than keep everything crossed it will be okay. I was soooooooo looking forward to that little bit of extra comfort.

Not to mention that we only chose this flight/route because the Premium Seats weren't offered on the Cardiff flight. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest ;)

Poor Hilary, I find it soooo frustrating when tour operators do this, like changing times and equipment etc, I know it can't be helped in a LOT of cases but I'm sure half the time they just see a half full flight and roll out the more inexpensive -to -operate planes and stuff you!
Hopefully you'll get your extra legroom and ask for free drinks on board as well you never know!

:sad2: :sad2: Hilary, after ALL your planning for this trip, it's just plain unfair. Fingers crossed they keep to their word and give you the extra leg room . . . could you perhaps send an email?

I'm frightened to ask of there's anything else that could be changed :sad2:

Hilary, hope you manage to get the seats that you want, fingers crossed and pixie dust for you :wizard:

Hilary

I am so sorry they have done that. Have they told you what aircraft they are now using. We were lucky and managed to get premium seating on our Monrach flight from Cardiff for August.

I know how you feel, I would be gutted if they changed our aircraft. Fingers crossed you get the extra legroom.

Sue

That's just terrible Hilary. Fingers crossed that you at least get emergency exit seats.

I'm flying from Cardiff on Monarch tommorrow (Thursday 30th June). :sunny:

I take it you aren't flying from Cardiff Hilary?

I was considering upgrading to premair seats but haven't done so yet but there are usually some available on the day - so who knows?

They were asking an extra £199 each in advance and the pitch is 34" instead of a cramped 29"

Steve

Is the seat pitch seriously 29" in a normal seat? I'm only 5'3" but even I would be crushed. Surely that's dangerous? I can't believe they ask £199 for 34" - that's something near a normal leg pitch on some aircraft (American for eg).

A couple of years ago, we had some friends come out to meet us in Florida - he is 6'2" - not overly tall - and had dents in his knees the entire holiday where the stored tray table was digging in. Now I understand why. It's not so bad on a 2 hr flight to Spain, but 9 hours?? I think it's terrible.

Virgin PE is 36 inch and they charge 275 pounds each way!!!!!

Oh blimey Hilary! I've got my fingers crossed crossed crossed that you get your extra legroom seats :)

What a nuisance :(

Thanks for the commiserations! :) :grouphug:

Oh, yes, there's still plenty that could be changed  I've booked five separate components for this trip: flight, car-hire, hotel at USF, hotel in Fort Myers and hotel in WDW.

No, we're flying from Birmingham with Britannia (well, it was with Britannia!). When I booked, the only Thomson flights from Cardiff were with Monarch and Britannia didn't have access to their Premium Seat allocation. I know there was a reason that we decided against booking with Monarch, but it was so long ago I can't remember why!

We are also travelling with Thomson or I should say were. We booked last July and have had 4 flights changes including one changing us from Thomson/Britannia to MY Travel. We had also booked our seats because we have a DS and needed be seated next to him and have now been told we can no longer do this . I have been told that MY Travel will allow us to book our seats 6 days prior to travelling so will go down to TA and hopefully get somewhere. I am worried sick we don't get next to him. Having said that MY Travel have been most helpful and my only wish was that I hadn't booked with them originally :(

Jeez Hilary,

Are you sure they dont think your me ? I am trading off a stopover for 34in pitch on US Air and 31 for the internal.

Ali, I hope you get your seats okay  4 flight changes? That's unbelievable! I know there are times when aircraft get taken out of use for various reasons and the changes are unavoidable if the flight is to go ahead, but 4 changes seems pretty excessive! You need to know you'll be able to sit with your DS.

My seat preferences aren't make or break - we'd be disappointed (and DH, at 6'3" will be very squashed and uncomfortable! :crowded: ) if we don't get the extra legroom seats as promised, but it's these last minute changes to plans we thought were nailed months ago that can take the edge off the start of the holiday.

Thats terrible Hillary! I would definately ask them to write a letter confirming you will get bulk seats, that way when it comes to check in they cant say nout.

I hope it all goes well after these mishaps I am feel for you.

This happened to me on my previous trip in 2004. I only found out by chance
a couple of mths before we were due to travel. I was flying with thomas cook airlines - and they pull all their winter flights from october 04 through to April this year. I booked premium seats as well and they added me to a britannia flight without the premium seats. I cancelled the trip and got a full refund.

The thing that really got me mad was that they knew about the switch of planes 5 mths prior to our trip. I just happened to be passing the travel agent and decided to go in an pay an instalment. I got talking to one of the travel consultants about Orlando - and she told me about the change of planes.

I've noticed that travel agents tend to keep a lot of information to themselves, and are quite happy to tell you important info when they issue your tickets 14 days before departure. What I do now is check with them every 4-6 wks to see if anything has altered with my booking - and i go and collect my ticket from them 4 weeks before travel - they usually have your tickets in the office safe.

Actually Virgin's PE is 38" and I think well worth the supplement as they have more recline and also leg and footrests.

BA economy seats have footrests - one of the reasons I prefer BA to Virgin :)
