I just received a letter today from my guide about the OKW extension. The letter talked about the no interest and no payments til March '09, and about the lithograph and what a great deal the extension is. I already sent my card back stating I did not want to extend, and with this letter today, I get the feeling they are going to bombard members like myself who said no to change their minds with similar letters and maybe even phone calls. This is wrong, no means no, send me the paperwork for declining, I'll fill it out and send it back. I'm not going to change my mind. I don't like high pressure sales, and this letter says high pressure all over it to me.

It may have some high pressure to it but it may also be that since the no interest, no payment until 2009 was not in the original offering they legally have to notify everyone in case some refused because of the short time frame that was originally given.

I was at the original meeting in September and they said everyone would get the lithograph and $30 credit towards dues this year. They have apparently changed that also if only those who accept get the lithograph.

For what was reported about the member meeting this past week it is also likely that the low acceptance of the offer also is playing into this.

My issue with the extension currently is that they want $15/25 point from current members to extend but they are not increasing the cost of the same points to new members at OKW an equivalent amount. They only went from $92 to $96.

Also still waiting for the refusal final paperwork to get here.

Here's what the letter said about that: (Underline added by myself)

"should you decide not to extend, you'll receive a package containing a deed for the period of February 1, 2042, to January 31, 2057, assigning those years back to Disney Vaction Development. And you'll still receive the lithograph to express our appreciation for taking the time to process the deed."

It also appears that they're trying to make it easier. You only need to call your guide, who will then start the processing;

"Whatever your decision, please call me so that I may guide you through the simple process and send along all of the appropriate documents. Again, I look forward to hearing from you at 1 - 800 -(my guide's number) with any additional questions or your decision."

The high pressure from my standpoint is that apparently they are getting alot of no's, so they have changed how you can finance the extension. When that doesn't work, what are they going to offer next:confused3

I think you're right about the rationale for the free financing. I don't think it will change the minds of any of us who said, "No thanks," but if I were interested in extending, I might delay a bit to see what else they offer. Extenders still have almost 3 months before the price changes; maybe they'll sweeten the offer.

I bet a dollar American that the date of the end of the $15 extension offer gets extended!

What would DVC have to lose? :thumbsup2

A letter is high pressure?????????? Where's the pressure; unless it's self imposed??? If you don't like the offer throw it in the trashcan.JMHO:rolleyes1

You're right, and are the members paying for all of these extras????

True, however, like the poster said, no means no. Don't come back and say but if you do, here is what we can do. Personally, I get enough junk mail, I don't need any more. JMHO:rolleyes:

Nope. The letter of the law for DVC does not allow the cost for promotional items (including mailings, lithos, bags, etc.) to be passed on to the membership.

On a side note, it amazes me how bent out of shape people get over junk mail. I'll take it over telemarketers any day!

I am unsure of what is high pressure? It sounds like the op may be assuming that the letter is a second attempt to change the op's mind. So what if it is? Turf it and move on:confused3:

I'm sorry, I am sure this has already been talked about but I just had a question in regards to extending. Will they be offering this to the VWL and BCV? Im not sure what we would do but I am just curious. Thanks:cheer2:

DVC is still making this extension up as they go along. The resolution passed by the BOD clearly stated that the special assessment was due and payable by 2/29/08, not that a postcard was returnable by that date. The actual due date doesn't really exist at this point. For three months now, i have been requesting to see the actual documents needing to be returned prior to mailing back my postcard, but DVC refuses to send them to me. This whole thing is simply a money-making venture that has apparently back-fired.

If anyone here doesn't understand why I feel like I do, that's fine. Everyone is different. I have just always been a person who when I tell someone no, or they tell me no, that's it. Nothing more need be said. I just don't see the need for the follow up letter being sent to me. And I feel this won't be the last time I'm offered this. I will just deal with it like I did today, just wrote no thanks on the letter and mailed it back to my guide. Thanks for at least reading my post.

Was it an actual, personalized, follow-up letter, or a bulk-mail type letter that will go to all OKW members? If it is a generic bulk mailer, they certainly aren't going to take the time to purge the mailing list of the people that have responded, whether it was yes or no. I don't think anyone would really expect them to purge the member mailing list, and if this is the case...no I really don't see why a bulk mailing would upset you.

Now, if, it was a personalized letter from your guide, I think I could also understand the mailing, as you returned your card with no...but the rules changed, and certainly DVC would want you to make a decision based on knowing ALL the options available. It would be foolish on their part, to simply assume that absolutely no member that had declined the offer prior to the new financing option wouldn't perhaps, change their mind based on new information.

In a sense I can see how you feel. You got the info, made a decision, now why are they still bothering you. While I understand the position to not want to cont to be bothered I don't feel one can say this is high pressure. I also suspect they'll get some changing their mind and that they don't have a good way of keeping up with who has said no, only those that have accepted the option. Obviously they could if they wanted. I wonder if those who said yes got the same letter. The truth is that this approach will likely work for some else you'd never get the same junk mail twice at home.

I'm also reminded of II phone calls. When you put in an ongoing search, they tend to call you about once a week to see if you'll take something else. My feeling and response has always been that I was knowledgeable enough to ask for what I wanted, please don't call and they generally obliged for that given exchange. Then last Dec/Jan they called about my HI search for Maui asking if I'd take a Westin 1 BR. Since this was an EXACT match to my request and my first choice I said yes. Now I'm a little reluctant to stop the phone calls for fear they'll screw up again and I'll miss a desired exchange.

The letter was addressed to me, not to just OKW owner. It may still be a bulk mailing, just not what I was expecting after I already responded no. I know this probably isn't a big deal to most people, just something that bothered me. Much like the people felt after last years member cruise, it seems like DVC won't be happy with what current members have purchased from them. They keep pushing to see if we will give them more money. If I want to give more of my money to DVC, it will be when I'm ready, not when they keep soliciting me. JMO

I see where you are coming from,

but you are one of many and IMO there would 10 times more complaining if the reverse happened.

how many people would be complaining if they were never told of the new options? even if they sent it in no the first time through, they would complain "well those werent the terms, I was never informed of that"

I am not syaing it will lead to sales, but people will complain either way, the question is which is the proper way to do it

I think informing everyone is the correct thing to do, whether its a sales tactic or not, its the way it needs to be done

I agree. I would be upset if they sweetened the deal and did not tell me. I don't think a letter is a big deal, I would be more upset if they called me.

I sent the reply card back a few weeks ago accepting the offer. I also got the letter. I didn't consider when I read it as being high pressure. I originally paid $52 for my points so paying the additional $15 wasn't a big deal in the scheme of things. It was way cheaper than buying at another DVC to get the the use of points until 2057 or so. I also think it is great that they will let you make full payment until March of '09. I really don't see the reason so many members have gotten so frustrated with the offer--either accept or decline it. I think all of us at some time have wondered how DVC would let us extend our contracts and now we know. It all a matter of personal choice and DVC isn't forcing anyone to purchase--just to let them know yes or no.:)
