Trying to make sure we keep this trip price down and I need advice - I've just discovered that one of the non-universal hotels has early entry to Harry Potter too - that was news to me. I see on the Universal Website that the Best Western has a family vacation package for 719 and it says that Royal Pacific is 1249 for the same package (park tickets for 4, early admission and 3 nights hotel).

So, if I would save 500 dollars by staying at the cheaper hotel, how much would 4 of the express passes that let you go on things as much as you want (except the three rides) be? We're going May 2nd.

There are lots of Universal Partner hotels with early entrance. As long as you book the package through the Universal website, you will get the early entrance. You can't just book the hotel separately through the hotel's website.

You can check them all here: http://www.universalorlando.com/Vacation-Packages/bf/Featured-Vacation-Packages.aspx

By May 2, the crowds should be quite reasonable.

You can check express plus pass prices here: http://www.universalorlando.com/Theme-Park-Tickets/Universal-Express/Express-Plus-Passes.aspx

Okay - now I have found all the resorts that I could book the deal at using your link, but I'm confused about the prices of the express passes. I found the prices for the ones (express pass) that let you on each attraction once at the front of the line but I think I want the VIP pass which allows one to go on rides as much as they want in the express line.

The problem is, that seems to be only priced on a ticket? Can one buy a VIP pass? If I got the Universal deal I already get the tickets with that, so I need to upgrade to VIP somehow.

yes, anyone can buy the VIP pass for a day, or for many days but it will cost you plenty.

i put in May 2nd for the VIP pass and it shows $169.99 + taxes per person.

it also includes the park ticket.

you would be better off staying onsite one night, get 2 days of early entrance and unlimited usage of the express lines then.

then move off site to a cheaper hotel.

you can cancel the package.
book one night only onsite, book an off site hotel for the rest of your vacation.
buy the tickets separately or buy VIP for the days, other than the 2 as mentioned above.

or if you stay some of the nights off site, you can buy the regular express passes per day.
if that would be the case, i say, don't buy the express passes until you are in the park and see what type of crowds you are facing.

for May 2nd, i would not think it would be that crowded.

how many days do you plan for your UO vacation?
