OK... I got on an airplane and flew to Disney in Febraury after a lot of relaxation exercises...

Now, after watching the replays of 9/11, I am again nervous about taking my family on a plane to Disneyworld.

To make matters worse, they just arrested 5 men in a suburb near me!  http://msnbc.com/news/807861.asp

Oh man... they are realistically everywhere. How can I breathe. I live near West Valley (nuclear) and Niagara Falls. Ugh. Not to mention the airport.

Counting to ten... 1.. 2.. 3..

I have less than 4 weeks to get on that plane again. Please send me some "Get the heck on that plane and enjoy yourself" vibes!!

Thanks,
Karen

GET ON THAT PLANE AND ENJOY YOURSELF!!!

What are you going to do, let them ruin something else? I don't think so! You go ahead and have fun, it would really spoil their day. :)

Hey Karen......

Get on that plane and go for it!
You will be fine and you will have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get on the plane and come to WDW....nothing will happen....or get totally wasted before you get on the plane and you won't care anyway.... :)

Seriously...it's normal to be a little nervous...but don't ket it cause you not to go see the Mouse House...

we went last september and returned the night before......scared me to pieces....we decided we had 8 tickets already for our whole family to go including my mother in law....so we hyperventilated and went.....I wasnt' to bad cause our grandkids were with us....well we went labor day weekend and I just spazzed right out...I was so scared because of the media...every time you turned around they were talking about this and that......well hubby and I are going again in december and I am okey .....at least I think I am..so lets go to Disney and love it and relax and enjoy the parks and the wonder of the innocence of DISNEY.....go and come back and file a trip report for all of us to read.....

I had difficulty getting on a plane after 9/11, so I had the doctor prescribe me some valium. It worked. :) And I'm so glad that I did, because if I hadn't, I don't know that I ever would have gotten back on a plane.

If you have to, call your doctor. No reason to make yourself sick with worry. And once you get there, you'll forget about all the bad in this world and have a nice, relaxing vacation.

I agree with everyone else Karen. Just think of the fun you'll be having in 26 days. Think Disney, think fun!! I worry more on driving to the airport than I do flying.

If you're really strung out about this, ask your doctor for a trank to get you over the fear .

I'm sure no one who has gotten on a plane in the past year hasn't thought about the 9/11 attacks and been extra stressed on some level Karen. .

But in the past year there have been no incidents, and security is very alert for potential problems, to the point of over-doing it in some cases. .

I think it's certainly reasonable and normal to feel aprehensive about flying, but if we didn't do things in life because of the slight potential for serious problems, we'd never leave the house. . .

My advice is to see your doctor about a getting a light sedative, then go and enjoy your trip. . :)

Hi Karen, I'm in Kenmore and they keep doing these updates. Making me exremely nervous!!!! I've already been a wreck with our proximity to the Falls and the border...this is not helping matters. I'm flying to DW in December for DISCON and I'm very nervous about flying.

Karen,

I know exactly how you feel. Just this week I had to fly and I wasn't feeling too comfortable with it. One thing that really helped me was to have a plan just in case! I'm not a fighting person or strong, but I decided that I would do my best to injure/disable them before they could kill me. I know these thoughts are not good, but it helped me. I had my plan of what I would do to try to injure them and try to stop them. And I stayed very alert the entire trip.

Go have a great time! Just find what it takes to help you relax!

Vodka and cranberry juice is cheaper than valium....and you can get it AT the airport and ON the plane too!! ;)

My wife and I will be getting on a plane to WDW on Monday. A week later we will board airplane for home, safe and relaxed after a happy vacation. During our entire vacation, we will be as safe as if we were at home.

It is understandable that you are afraid. Fear is what the terrorists want you to feel. Fear is what 9/11 was all about for them. Fear is the only weapon they have, because they have no real power to hurt a significant number of people in this country. They cant hurt us, but they can make us fear.

The first step is the hardest. Once you have gotten off that plane in Orlando, the fear will lessen and you will have a wonderful vacation. Get on that plane and go and have a great time in spite of the fear. It might be difficult, but it will be worth it. My guess is that once you arrive you will be so busy having fun that you will quickly forget that anyone was trying to make you feel afraid.

GO! You'll have a GREAT time! Don't be scared . . .I know its hard but you'll be safe . . .

If it helps you any, we flew to WDW on July 4th and we made it back and forth safely.

:D

I can't wait to get on a plane to fly to DIS CON. It is going to be so much fun. DIS CON will also be amusing.;)

Karen,

That is how I felt last year when all this happened and I had a trip planned for November. I was afraid to go and was ready to cancel. I basically decided I would go to the airport and if I was too afraid to fly I just wouldn't get on the plane. Knowing that I was giving myself a choice up until the last minute provided me with a sense of calmness while I waited for the date of the trip. I was still telling everyone on the way to the airport that I didn't know if I would go. By the time I got to the airport and saw everyone else going somewhere, I was fine. I did however have some Mikes' hard lemonade packed in a cooler to bring on board with me. LOL!! I didn't drink it, but it was there if I wanted it. So - get on the plane and enjoy yourself. If you stay home you will be sorry that you have missed out on all the fun. You can't sit around waiting for something to happen, that is no way to live.

Get on the plane and have a good time

I know that I can't just sit around and be afraid, but when you have to look your three young kids in the eyes (6, 4 and 2) if something DOES go wrong... and know that it was YOUR choice to go. See?

I am going to go. There! I just can't believe that there was a terrorist cell working in my own backyard, so to speak. It is really freaking me out.

I'm glad they have been captured!

Thanks again, everyone. I will keep the vodka and cranberry juice in mind!

I have flown 5 times since 9/11, the first was the week after, and while I will admit I was more nervous than normal I would not let it stop me. I have 2 more flights scheduled one the first of oct and one at the end and I will go and enjoy myself so you do the same.

I saw that on the news, Karen! Well better that they are arrested than still out "on the loose"!

You will be fine, just close your eyes, relax and breathe when you take off. And if that doesn't help, try alcohol. ;)
