November/December WISH Walkers and Runners Training Thread

Thanks for the info...I tried the code in the checkout section. Shoes are here so maybe next time.

Carrie As I was reading your ice run report, I kept thinking this sounds dangerous and them you got to the part where you slipped...glad it doesn't sound to bad.

Frank You are a beast..I know it has to be cold in your neck of the woods.

DianeL Hope your gym time was productive.

Finished a nice 8 miler today and then while chopping an onion I dropped the knife and cut my foot. Thankfully DD is home from college and fixed me up.

Frank - Second 20-miler? Yikes! lol. My getting it in after woork would have meant runnign until 10 pm. Good thing you're fast!

Joan - OMG! Glad you are ok! yeah, conditions were dangerous. usually we avoid that, but we had already made the leap not to travel to plowed papths so.... (yeah, not wise) We are bot ok, though. I do have a boo boo on my hand from fallin if you want ot feel sorry for me though. :rotfl: Yeha, I'm pathetic.

Ahhhh...yoga with a tired instructor. jsut my style.

I didn't even get started until around 10:30. I would have liked to get out there earlier but it cut down on the cars on the road which made for a better experience. It was cold but for the first time in 3 weeks it wasn't snowing for my long run.

I was way too under-trained for my first full so I went with a program this time and it had two 20 mile runs. It was very tempting to cut it down to 15 and it went through my mind but in the end I'm glad I put in the extra 5.

hit the gym last night. Did the elliptical and a week off meant for a tough 30 minute. Managed to just sneak in on the 2.5 mile mark. Using the same machine so that is good. Tough though. Did my upper body workout and feeling it a bit today but that might have to do with what happened after.

I'm starting to feel the universe doesn't want me to run till Disney. The treadmills were all packed so I checked the temps (26* and no wind) so decided to give it a try. We duck walked here and there but Keely and I tried to run where it was dry or packed snow. She was very good. I'd say 'duck walk' and she'd slow or not pull. I'd tell her to stop while I gingerly crossed any area and she waited. She really was a good puppy last night.

We were heading for a 4 miler and my turning point where I start to weave back home. When a very small mound of snow must have caught me tow. for the 2nd time in 32 days (I checked!) I fell. At least I didn't fly like the last time and I fell on snow. My knee is feeling bruised. A bit stiff and cranky today so trying not to leave my chair to much.

Ray wasn't home so I had over a 1/2 mile walk back home during which I did pick up my walking pace here and there and it was ok. But rather than tempt fate I headed home & iced my knee. Going to scrap tonight's usually scheduled run. Tomorrow at least I will do the upper body but if it doesn't hurt I will try the ellipitcal or the bike and then see how the TM feels if it's free.

Wasn't it just yesterday I sent "Stay healthy" thoughts? Duh! Should listen to myself :rolleyes1

My shoes are on their way but still on the other side of the country. I really feel the universe is trying to tell me something LOL

FRANK! I thought of you last night, BEFORE my fall. It was a nice night for running last night. Glad you got yours in and without snow. Ahhh 10:30 starts. I did one of those last year but not as far and it was nice. Just you, the snow, the lights. Pretty time.

JOAN! OMG!!! I broke a vase this morning and sent glass flying. What is with this? The more I think of it I might just wrap up on a couch tonight and not touch anything but the remote. I hope your foot heals ASAP!!!! Luckly I didn't touch any glass (at least 1 thing went right!)

CARRIE!!! Tired yoga instructors are the best! But the one at the gym last night who had injured herself somehow sure wasn't letting the class off the hook. Thankfully I was safely on my elliptical LOL Stay the course and off the ice! Only one of us MI folks needs to be bruised and even 1 is too much :thumbsup2

Back to work. Here's hoping that today no one hurts themselves, no bruises, no falls, no pulls, no falling knives or flying vases.

Take care out there Team! Just a little bit longer. It's almost here. Please let me get there in one piece and no more extra bruising! :lmao:

Diane - Oh no!!!!!! I deserved that for my stupidity! Your ocnditions don't sound tha tbad. You didn't deserve that. :( Ice, rest, as you have been. :wizard::wizard::wizard:

So I'm ramping up my miles just as most of the rest of this world are tapering. Did 11.3 today in advance of real training ramping up next week. And I got a late present when this came in the mail today.....

Hope everyone is staying healthy in advance of next weekend's races. Any New Year's resolutions yet? I have one, and "it aint pretty". (See separate post).

Maura

Back from Christmas in Colorado with my DH and 4 children. Hope everyone had a merry one.
Did some cross training...3 days of skiing...best in years..sunny and lots of snow. The last day I tried snowing shoeing. What fun! We did a very slow 5K, but it was open to all so the guide took it slow for all to enjoy.
Flight got in at 7:30 this morning so I took a little rest and then an easy walk outside for about 45 min this afternoon. Time to start training for the Princess Half. Perhaps next year I will be saying tapering for the Full.

Maura that is a very cool award!

Joan - Yes, must do full next year! It's to be our Goofy year. :scared1:

Maura - OMG! Too cool! COngratulations!!!!! Yay, I'm not ramping up! ;)

OK, brain is in total taper madness mode. Pulled a hammy on Friday too, so taper brain is obsessing. Thankfully, I have a wonderful yoga instructor/physical therapist talking me off the ledge and helping me through. It's not really terrible, but when i obsess over it.....:upsidedow
