November Check In 2010

Yay!!! :cheer2:I've booked the HoJo for Nov. 1,2 and 3rd last night :woohoo:! I booked online after calling and finding out that the person handling reservations had gone home for the weekend. I chose a deluxe queen pool view, and put down that I am a light sleeper if that helps any in keeping me away from the freeway :). I've emailed and am hoping for a big fat Entertainment book discount too :goodvibes. Just need to get myself an Entertainment book if that comes through!

Regarding my Disneyland dates, I've changed my mind, I was going to go starting on the 8th but things are complicated regarding the friends I want to visit with. So! Now it looks like I have to arrive in LA on Halloween! Which...seems dumb, but I can only be away from home for so long, so I'm wondering if DTD is jumping on Halloween? I bet it is, and I bet I'll be too tired after an 11 hour flight and being awake for 24 hours at least...but, maybe not :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes! To keep it simple I am thinking of using the Disneyland Express bus to get the the Hojo, I've read that it shouldn't take more than an hour in traffic.

If I did arrive on the 30th, and the 31st was my first park day, when do they normally close the parks for the party? Maybe I could do a bit of Disney during morning and early afternoon before heading to friends for some Halloween fun? Imagine, getting to see both Halloween decs and then, some Christmas decorations too! I'd be a Disney freak in heaven, that's for sure lol!

Now I'm off to study the Halloween tread too, so I don't get to annoying with my questions lol!

In any event, I'm going to Disneyland :yay::yay::yay::cheer2::cheer2::yay::yay::yay:

Hi all! We are heading to DLR too this November! Spending Thanksgiving with my sis in so cal, and then a short trip to DLR from Nov 26-28. Only two days in the parks, which is normal for us, but I swore the next time I spent that much money it was gonna be for three days min. Oh well, I'm going to see Christmas at DLR! Not telling the kids, gonna be a bonus surprise to our first Thanksgiving out of town.

Oh, and staying at HoJo!

Yay - We just booked our November trip to DL! It'll just be DD15 and I this time, from Nov 10 - Nov 14 at the Candy Cane Inn. Looks like we'll be joining lots of other DISers at the park that weekend. Can't wait, and needed to share my excitement with others who will understand! :goodvibes
Glad you came along and joined us! I'll be traveling with my whole family but I have to admit that just a mother/daughter trip sounds like so much fun! I bet the two of you will have a blast! I've added you to the list so make sure to come back and keep sharing your excitement!

Is the Alpine Inn nicer? Do they have an entertainment rate? I was so happy to get that rate for our stay with the exception of Saturday night I think!

What are the local restaurants - Mimi's and what else? When we get closer I want to sign up for some of their email clubs - right now with Mimis you get a free breakfast for joining!

Wendy
Can't add any input on the Alpine Inn but isn't it great to have a place to come and swap information? I know the Dis was invaluable when we started planning and had to decide where to stay 10 years ago.
There are the eateries that darren123 mentioned on Harbor Blvd. plus I-Hop, Denny's and Tony Romas. Of course, there's also a good selection in downtown Disney. And, if you don't mind a short hike, there are some really good places at the Garden Walk. I highly recommend Bubba Gump. Our favorite of all in the evenings has got to be to call for pizza or Chinese delivery. After a long day in the park it is so nice to not walk another step and just have it delivered to your door!

Not that I am aware of they do not have the ER. It suits our needs, 2 double beds microwave fridge etc. They were in the process of refurb some of the rooms when we were there in January Breakfast is purchased danishes and coffee tea and OJ is was ok but we go shopping at food 4 less for our breakfast and meals, and Alamo car hire is next door Disneyland is a 15 minute walk we like it I would like to stay a HoJo but not next to the Freeway maybe next time. As for the rooms were ok and did not smell or had dirty carpet as some reviews of other Hotel say. Staff were very friendly and helpful as they gave us an early check in being on a plane for 14 hours it was very nice of them and when we checked out they looked after our baggage for us until we had to get the bus to LAX at 4 pm, even on holidays we do not eat out that much may be one take out meal every few days Only eaten in the Parks, MacDonalds, Burger King and Subways for lunch never been to a Restaurant. Hope that helps
I think if you can find a place that suits your needs best you have done well. There are so many lodging choices in the area there's bound to be one that fits everyone! I got lucky and we've stayed with the same one I chose 10 years ago. It's nothing fancy but as you say it suits our needs so we are good with it! If I tried to change up know I would probably have a mutiny on my hands!

Oops I just had a thought...when do we expect Disneyland to (most likely) tape their Christmas Parade? I'd rather miss it I think. I'm going mid week so I guess I won't see the Processional, right?

So many decisions! Knowing when the Christmas parade taping is would help in making them :).

Then I can get to the fun stuff, like what I'm gonna eat :dance3:lol!
Seems like I recall someone mentioning them taping for the Christmas parade on Nov. 12 which should be about right since they usually do the filming on the weekend after Veteran's Day, which is on the 11th. Veteran's Day is also a good day to avoid if you don't care for the crowds.
The Candlelight Processional is held in December so if you stick with November you won't have any problem there.
After you figure out the dates the dining really is the fun part to plan!

Congratulations We understand hehe! Oooh November, I'm going in November too, with my cousin who better not bail on me lol, but otherwise I'd be alright regardless. I am pretty sure we are going to try to book the HoJo but I keep going back and forth between that and the Candy Cane which sure looks pretty! I bet they do it up nice to for the holidays :)! 4 whole days too, good for you :thumbsup2!

ps I like your name, mine is so boring haha...no imagination!
I hope your cousin doesn't bail on you but good to know that you are still determined even if there were a change of plans.
I'm right there with you. Total lack in creativity when it came to choosing a user name. Oh well, at least they are easy to remember!

Thanks for the advice, I've relaxed now regarding Aladdin seating thanks to you, phew! In early planning mode I need to relax some, it's all so exciting!
Loved all the links, and though I don't need it I really think the bathroom one is cool because there are people that do. Love the Disers for compiling information like that and sharing it along!
You are welcome. I love sharing any info I have that might just happen to help make someone else's trip even more magical!

I think I messed up. I pre-ordered our SeaWorld tickets when they came out with the special for kids tickets for $5. I thought I had read somewhere that there is a free shuttle service that gets you from anaheim to seaworld. But now I see that the service is free - but you buy the tickets from them. So I assume that I will not be able to use that service. So now what? Anyone know the best way to get from Anaheim to SeaWorld and back for a day trip?

I am leaning very strongly towards renting a car, because it will give us the opportunity to actually go see the ocean instead of just driving by it. I know my husband is extremely hesitant to drive in CA, but I think we'd be fine.
Darn! Sounds about like my luck! Bet you can still salvage the plan! I thought I remembered another option instead of a rental car.... the train. May not save any money but it might be fun and you wouldn't end up having to do the driving yourself. Not sure if it would be of interest to you but I will share what I found, just in case. I pulled this from the Mouseplanet website:

Disneyland To/From San Diego (SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo, LEGOLAND)

It's a short (just over 2 hours), pleasant Amtrak train ride between San Diego and Anaheim, so you can certainly combine the delights of SeaWorld and the San Diego Zoo with your trip to Disneyland. It's also relatively inexpensive -- you can travel between San Diego and Anaheim for about $20 (or less with various promotions) each way. From the main station in San Diego, it's an inexpensive taxi fare to downtown and the major attractions.

LEGOLAND is about 5 miles from the Oceanside station, located partway between Anaheim and San Diego. Getting to the park would involve a fairly inexpensive taxi fare from the station. The Oceanside station is served by both Amtrak and Metrolink.

I think Alamo has a car rental place at DTD so you could do a one day car rental. I don't mind the drive to Sea World as it's pretty easy going down I-5.

:woohoo:Yay for us we're finally down to double digits!:woohoo:
I agree. We have done the drive down to San Diego and it was a fairly easy drive. Some of the oceanside towns were pretty interesting. And you can get a glimpse of the ocean here and there.
Yippee for those double digits!

Thanks for the nice comment about my DIS name, but honestly, every time I type it I think I really should have picked a shorter, easier to type name - so I think yours is perfect! :thumbsup2

We've stayed at the Candy Cane many times, including 2 years ago in December and I don't remember them having special holiday decorations up, but the property is just beautiful anyway with all the plants and flowers. I've heard the HoJo is nice and the entertainment rate they offer is great, but we love the Candy Cane. :goodvibes
I bet that name could give you fits! It would me but then I have some mighty dumb fingers! They don't always cooperate with my brain!
The Candy Cane is definitely one of the pretty hotels around. Maybe some day....

Got your dates updated on our list! I hope those days work out better for you and you enjoy your stay at the Hojo. I guess it might be interesting to see the park magically transformed overnight between the 2 holiday decorations but after an 11 hour flight and 24 hours of no sleep I bet you will be pretty tired! I know I would be! I am also probably biased since we really don't get into the Halloween festivities anyway but if it were me I would just rest up that evening and make an early day of it the next morning. I expect it might get pretty crowded in DTD on Halloween night! Heck, it gets pretty crowded down there some nights even when it's NOT any special night! Sorry, can't help with the closing time.
Don't think you are annoying us. That's what we are all here for!

Sounds like a great plan! Maybe you will get in 3 days NEXT time. What fun getting to make the whole trip a surprise! Oh yeah.... I added you to the list!

We will be in Disneyland November 24-28! :banana:Anxiously awaiting information on Thanksgiving Day Dining!popcorn::
Welcome! I'll put you on the list! All of you are making me jealous getting to have Thanksgiving in the park! Bet they have some very special Thanksgiving meals coming up for you. I need some of the peeps around here who have done Thanksgiving in the park before to share their day and entice me just a little more! Maybe one of these days! Do you know where you will be staying yet?

Well I just bought our air ticket for coming home. The only thing bad about this is it means I have to go home. :rotfl2:

So we will be at Disney from Nov. 7-14. But we get into LA on Oct. 30 and leave on a cruise for Oct. 31-Nov.7. We are staying the night before the cruise at the Queen Mary. After the cruise we will be going to Disney and visiting Universal. Have not gotten a hotel yet but looking at BestWestern Park Place Inn. Unless Dinsey brings out some good specials for Nov.

That is sort of a bum part of the deal! Now we know why you have been holding off.... waiting to find a way to get to stay there, right? :lmao: Boy, wouldn't that be fun!
You have a batch of wonderful plans! We have stayed on the Queen Mary once. I loved the old timeyness of it! My kids got a real kick out of it too. Keep in mind it may not be quite as swanky as your cruise accommodations since it is a little outdated unless they have really done some upgrading since we stayed.

Still no airfare here. I've decided I am in no major hurry. I will be putting the airfare on my AA card which has 6 months to pay off interest free so the longer I delay now the more I can be saving for the trip and not paying now for the airfare. (does that make sense?) Of course, if a good deal comes along I will grab it right up now.

On the bright side here in our house this morning.... I've reached a new level..... we have sunk below the 90s!
89 days to go! :woohoo:

OOPS!

I learned today that, way back when I made our Hojo's reservations before we were even certain that we were going to be taking this trip, I only reserved us for 4 nights instead of 5. I guess I was thinking that we'd have to come back on Wednesday to make Thanksgiving dinner. Wound up being a better deal to stay an extra day and fly out early on Thursday but I never updated our reservation. Good thing I called today and realized because I was able to add another day.

The reason I was calling is because I realized that you can pre-pay your Hojo's stay by check if your dates are finalized. The less that goes on my credit card the better, as far as I am concerned.

We stayed on the Quenn Mary when we did a Panama Canal cruise. Carnival was moving their ship from long beach to the east coast. I like the ship gives you the feel for how cruising was like in the old times.:thumbsup2

Jumping on board this thread.

We're flying in to LGB on November 25th and staying through December 5th...a monster DL trip for us...the longest we've ever stayed in the parks in the past is 4 days. We are thinking we will do 8...we have 6 day park hoppers now and are debating buying additional 2 day parkhoppers. Hope we don't get burned out on Disneyland!

Anyway, we will be staying at the BWPPI.

:)

Welcome!

You might want to look into an annual pass intead of two sets of tickets, then you'll also get the dining and shopping discounts. Maybe even squeeze in another trip next Nov.

Oh, yeah? How would that work? Sorry I'm a dork...I've just NEVER entertained the idea of AP's since we live so far away. :)

ETA: Oh, my gosh. I just realized typing that up above that I booked the wrong hotel...so I called the TA and switched it just now. We will be staying at the BWPPI. Whoops!

If you already have tickets in a package through your travel agent you could upgrade the tickets to an annual pass once you're at DL. In looking at your dates Nov 25-27 would be block out days for a Deluxe AP so you could use your tickets with your package for those days, then on Nov 28 upgrade them to a Deluxe AP. I think the difference between a Deluxe AP and a 6 day park hopper would be around $113 per adult which is cheaper than buying another 2 day ticket. Then you have admission for the year and could squeeze in another trip next Nov before your pass expires. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

Just booked at GCH for the entire stay - they are having a GREAT deal! Got November 10 through 17 for $228 each night!:banana::banana:

Oooh, I have been so slow getting back here! Just in case I vanish even longer.... my computer has been giving me fits and may croak at any moment!

Glad you caught the extra day you needed before you were already there. Always a good idea to double check! Wish our hotel had the pre-pay like Hojo's. That is a great idea! I agree the less on the credit cards is best.

I guess all your different trips have gone a long way in helping you be able to provide and experienced opinion for your customers. My son was telling me that he wants to go to Germany. Do you do any planning for things like that or have someone you could recommend? I'm thinking we could maybe detour towards Disneyland Paris while we are over there.

Glad you decided to join us! I'll get you added to the list! Glad you got your lodging straightened out too!
You are going to love having a long trip! One of the great things is that you can take in the park at a more relaxed pace. We have done 10+ days for the last ten years and I have never gotten bored but then we are very easily entertained and can think of no place we enjoy more. We live in Texas and have annual passes cause just as ACDSNY mentions it really is more practical than buying 2 separate sets of tickets. By planning the next year's vacation right before our expiration date we can get in at least 20 days on our APs. Pretty good value when you look at it that way. Plus my DH loves having a pass with Mickey on one side and him on the other!

Your advice is a perfect example of just how invaluable this forum can be! So many folks might never consider APs but they are such a good deal if you know you will or even think you might make it back to the park within a year.

Bless you...you just answered every single question I had. Thank you so much!!
Great that ACDSNY was able to help you. And don't be afraid to ask if you have any other questions. That's what we are here for!

We have 86 days to go!!!
Hurray for you! :dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3: It's getting pretty exciting, isn't it?!!!! :dance3::dance3::dance3:
Thanks for reminding me that I needed to check mine.... can't believe it... the kids are slipping! They haven't asked today! 84 for us!

Congrats on the great deal at GCH! Got you all updated! Never stayed there myself but maybe some day.

Ran across these videos a few days ago and thought some of you might enjoy them. The main clip shows some of the cakes they make at Disneyland. And, on the lower right there is another clip with some fun tips about the park.
