November Check In 2010

Add us to the list:)...we booked our trip for Nov. 12 - 14th! This is our 2nd trip this year and our first time going in November. We already made our reservations for Goofy's kitchen....now we are just counting down the days.

I'm so excited for our upcoming trip, can't stand it. I'm even starting a box of the things I pick up for the trip to get ready (LOL) I'm so confused on where to stay, so confused, I even made a spreadsheet, I've only been to DLR 3x, 2 stays at BWPPI and once at Jolly Roger. DH really wants to stay onsite, but I'm having a hard time trying to figure out of we should pay the extra $ or have more money to spend in the parks, PP is only $200 more so that's no big deal for 4 nights, DLH $450 and GCH is $670 (if we book thru costco we get $96 worth of character meals and $20 gift card, so we can take that off the top of the differences to make it a little lower). What would you guys do? I need advice please. I've heard mixed reviews about PP and DLH, but great things about GCH, but I really don't wanna spend that much. I loved the location of BWPPI, esp. w/DD3. What would you do? What do you think of PP or DLH? Help!! :) Much mahalo!!!

We have stayed at PP our last two trips, and will be staying there again on our November 2010 trip (Nov 10 - 14). I think it is pleasant, with nice big rooms and good service. It is slightly further than GCH (a bit less than a block), but considering how much walking one does once arriving at the park, I don't personally think that extra block matters much.

We love the Disneyland Hotel, and would stay there all the time if we could...other than that we stay at Hojo's. If you can get the meals and gift cards when booking the Disneyland Hotel, that takes $116. off the price of that hotel over bwppi....for the remaining difference I would stay at the DLH!! I personally could not justify or afford the difference of the upgrade to GCH, but that's a personal thing, maybe you can. Having said that, the DLH is under construction...while it would be awesome to stay in one of their newly renovated rooms.... not having the pool or the lovely gardens and waterfalls to walk around takes away some of the magic. You have a tough choice! :goodvibes

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes....

I am a glutton for a higher VISA bill :lmao:I couldn't resist...upgraded our room at DLH to a theme park view room at GCH. The Kidlet still thinks we're staying at the CCI off site...boy is she going to be surprised! I can't wait - if only October would get out of the way....

You're DD is going to be over the moon when she finds out she's staying "IN" the magic!! Sometimes the higher bill is worth the look on their face :cheer2:

YIPPEE!! I just made my Goofy's Kitchen reservations for Nov. 15th. I feel like we are getting so close now. I think I will go get some fun stickers and paper and make a fun countdown calendar. I need to get a designated box to start throwing in stuff for the trip until it's time to pack. Oh man now if Oct. would go away we would be super EXCITED!!! :hippie:

I just became a part of this thread and now I have to leave it!!! We just had to change our ressie from Nov 14-19 to the second week of December. I really wanted to go the week before Thanksgiving but my husband just got a new position at work (which is really a good thing:) for us) so we have to postpone our trip by a few weeks. So I guess I have to say goodbye to this thread. I hope everyone has a wonder time in November!

I will be there in November too! My daughter is turning 14 on Monday and her surprise birthday present is to visit DLR Nov 11-14. We live in NorCal, so it is not that big of a deal to get down to DLR. I can't wait to surprise her on Monday so we can BOTH begin planning on what we want to do! :goodvibes

I'm behind a few days (my apologies for being slow with updates... been dealing with a sick kid) but so glad to come back and see some activity getting stirred up while I was gone! Let's keep it going!!! I've got some additions to make to our ever growing list of November visitors!

My sister is one of the ones who actually likes Village Haus.

I got my PS for Minnie & Friends and Carnation Cafe this morning. CM said the park opens at 8AM on November 11 and 13th.
Like I mentioned there has got to be some people who like the place or they would not always be so busy. I really only remember eating there once for sure. The food was not necessarily bad just not exceptional enough to warrant a return visit with so many other more appealing offerings.
Congrats on the PSs! It is fun to have those in order. I am trying to resist the urge to over plan our meals. My son said he would rather just decide when we get there. Some days that is fine but I have news for him... on the busy days I am making PS arrangements so we don't have to stand in long lines. He can thank me later!
Good getting to see more of the hours popping up on the November calendar!

I have just got off the phone to disney dining and have booked BB for 13th november soooo exciting.
We will be there at 12:30! What time did you book?

Ooooh, fantastic to know. I'm trying to decide which days to hit the parks. I think, since I'm coming in to OC on the 10th that I'll make my first day the 11th in hopes that the crowds will be slightly lighter, and also to hit the Jungle Cruise before it goes down for refurb. Opening at 8:00 am makes this plan that much better.

Then, I'll hit the parks again one or two more times after the 12th to get the full effect of the holiday overlay. I know it'll be much more crowded, so I'm thinking 2 visits will be necessary to see/do everything.

I just found out that a co-worker of mine has landed his dream job - working IT at DLR!! He can sign 3 people into the park each day; here's hoping he's willing to do so for me at least once (don't want to take TOO much advantage) ;)

OMG - I can't wait!!
Decisions, decisions!!! I think sometimes it is hit and miss guessing whether a holiday will really make a huge impact on the crowds. (Well, except Christmas and New Years.) I like your Veteran's Day plan so I'd say just go for it! Good idea to work around the refurbs and the holiday happenings.
How wonderful for your co-worker! Hope you get to enjoy one of his perks and get to get into the park.

We went to the first two games of the series last week and the RiverCats lost. I'm starting to get a complex since they seem to loose when I go. They lost yesterday so they are out of the playoffs now.

Hopefully they go all the way next year!
Don't you just hate it when stuff like that happens! You better stay away next year! ;)

sooo jealous of you guys that get to make your dinner/breakfast resies. I have to wait till later this month.;)

Question for all the seasoned November Disers. Some of the newer posts are reporting a 8am opening:banana:. Is this the normal time for November? Our dates are the 23-27 (day before thanksgiving, turkey day, and black friday in the parks).
You will be making your reservations before you know it too! In November I am pretty sure that the park does generally open at 8:00 on holidays, surrounding holiday dates and weekends. Interesting that with the WOC going on at CA this year that they are seeing longer operating hours too.

If you trust last year's calendar, it looks very feasible. Looks like there were a lot of days at the end of the month with Disneyland open from 8am until midnight.
My word! There were a lot of 8:00-12:00 days last year! I love the sites who keep the calendars from years past. They come in so handy when planning. Thanks for providing the link!

Well the 11th is Veteran's Day so I think that might be one of the only weekdays in early November that is going to be open at 8AM.

Thanksgiving week will probably have 8AM openings as well since thats a holiday/high attendance period.
With Disney you just never know! I know 8:00 openings are fantastic for some people. I think the only time we have ever made it at opening is when we were scheduled for a tour. We are a lazy bunch when we are on vacation.

I'm right there with you. Last time we ate there I called it the cardboard cheeseburger.

My DH also like Village Haus, go figure?:confused3

I would rather go to Carnation Cafe, the potato soup is wonderful!:cloud9:
Oh Yeah! that potato soup is soooo good!

Oh, boy...I get to join this crowd! Going to DL Nov 13-15 with my sis. We're staying at GCH :thumbsup2
Glad you get to join us here and get to head to Disneyland! I'll get you added to the list!

Sign me up for November. I'm going with my big sis, her kids and grandkids (10/31-11/6) and my DH will be there with me 11/5-11/10). Yes, you read that right -- I'm going to be there 11 days -- 9 of them somewhere in DL/DCA. Am I going to be sick of it by the time I'm done? :upsidedow

Staying in a deluxe room at the Hojo. Flying Jet Blue from PDX to LGB. Only for-sure plan so far is a BB reservation for 11/1 with my sister. I'm just waiting for WOC news to figure that out.

Can't wait!
Yippee! Another Novemberite! I'll add you to the list.
You sound like my kind of traveler! For the last 9 years we have spent an annual 2 weeks at DL. The first few trips we did do a couple outside the park touristy things but after seeing the few sites that really grabbed us we decided we are satisfied to just spend the entire 2 weeks inside the park. I have heard people say they would get bored having so much time but I hope that you do not. We never have! Of course, that is probably because we don't spend every waking moment in the park. We don't get there at opening. We take afternoon breaks. And, we seldom stay til closing. We do enjoy having so many days to do the park in a leisurely manner. I hope you love an extended visit as much as we do!
BB is our family favorite! And I am also looking forward to seeing what we think of the WOC.

Add me to the list, just confirmed today. We are staying at the La Quinta in the Family/Kids Suite for 6 nights. Will be leaving Oregon on Halloween (MIGHT go to DL Halloween night if we get to Anaheim early enough) and then we will be at DL/DCA until the 5th, leaving Calif on the 6th.

Cant wait! already made PS for Big Thunder BBQ and Carnation Cafe, Orleans square is next! yay!!!
Got you added too! It's always hard for us to make it to the park on our travel day. I hope your bunch is tougher than mine!
Have you done the BBQ before? I think we will give it a try this year too! Get to make my Cafe Orleans ressies tomorrow.

How long is your drive? It takes us 6 hours and we live in Central Cali. As I type this I relize you are most likley flying into CA.:rolleyes1
What I wouldn't give for a 6 hour drive! Of course, in Texas it takes almost that long just to get out of the state! 20 hour drive for us which is why we fly.

We never fly, its so much cheaper to drive, we leave at 4a.m. and are usually pulling into our hotel at around 4p.m. which gives us enough time to usually unpack, unwind, grab some yummy dinner, hit the hot tub and then get a good nights sleep before DL the next morning!
4 a.m. YIKES! I would be plum tuckered out! I bet the good night sleep will be sounding real good by bedtime. Of course, I do suppose you do get a certain recharge when you arrive at Disneyland. Hope you have a safe and fun drive!

The closer it gets definetly gets more exciting! I see that I still don't have your dates pinned down on the list. Have you decided which days you are going for sure yet? I am afraid that if my DH said he wanted to stay onsite I would throw all my money worries out the window and just go with his idea! After all, how often does one get such a free pass to spend extra money? I've never stayed at any of the Disney hotels so I would be just like you struggling with the decision of which one to choose. I have a good idea I would probably end up picking the most expensive one just because it is so much closer. Good luck deciding. Looks like you are getting some good advice from some of our fellow peeps who've stayed with them before.

We have stayed at both PPH and DLH and much preferred PPH. This trip, we're going to try the BWPPI, and we booked through Costco. :goodvibes
It's good to know that if I ever should get the chance to stay at one of the Disney hotels that I might not be ruined for life! I just assumed once you ever stayed there that none of the Harbor properties would ever do. Then again, we really don't require much more than a place to sleep and shower. Hope you enjoy the BWPPI!

Unless you absolutley need to be emearsed in the Disney sprit 24/7, I'ld save the money and stay at BWPPI. I've stayed there on past visits and found it suitable if all you need is a place to lay your head and rest your feet. They do offer a free pancake breakfast at Captin Kidds (there resturant). Be warned, however, it is just pancakes. No drinks or other sides, like eggs or bacon, is included. Captin Kidds also has a buffet, but by looking at the food, I have always opted to order off the menu. I also think that BWPPI is actually closer to the parks than the DLR hotels are, with the exception the GCH to DCA. We've travelled with our DD9 (she's be going to Disneyland every year scince she was three) and my DS2 1/2 (his first time).
A mom after my own heart! I'm a tightwad myself and just can't imagine the Disney hotels immersion level to add that much to my trip. As soon as I am on the plane my brain is in Disney overload so I don't see how it could get any better! I do agree about the walking distance. Although we haven't stayed at BWPPI we are always a few doors down at the Desert Inn. It is like a 5 minute walk whereas the walk back to the Disney hotels seems like it takes for ever.

Add us to the list:)...we booked our trip for Nov. 12 - 14th! This is our 2nd trip this year and our first time going in November. We already made our reservations for Goofy's kitchen....now we are just counting down the days.
Welcome! Let me know where you are staying and I will add the info to the list. You are going to love November! The weather is great. Crowds are nice. And, the park is decked out for the holidays! What's not to love, right? Counting right along with you!

I'll get your trip added to the list too! I have heard the rooms at PP were nice. Being Disney I would expect no less actually. That extra block probably would not matter much to most folks. In our case we stay 2 weeks. Heading in that second week I think EVERY step starts feeling like a mile! We're just a bunch of big old wimps!

You have a tough choice! :goodvibes
I've heard good things about the Disneyland Hotel too. Now I can add your endorsement to the rest of them. No doubt if I ever had the opportunity to stay at any of the Disney hotels I wouldn't pass it up. Never made it to Hojos either but just from folks on this thread it shows to be quite a popular place. I agree too. I think GCH is waaaay out of my budget and probably always will be.

Your post put a big smile on my face. Apparently you just gave away the secret to being able to afford the GCH. Just don't forget to brace yourself when the Visa bill arrives! Hope the kidlet enjoys the surprise!

 50 DAYS!!

untill we leave for our trip!!! Feels like yesterday we were celebrating the 100 days mark, time sure flies :goodvibes
It is going by quite nicely, isn't it. I love it when it drops down another 10! Won't be long and we will be down to 1 month.

You're DD is going to be over the moon when she finds out she's staying "IN" the magic!! Sometimes the higher bill is worth the look on their face :cheer2:
Maybe I could use that as a good arguement to get to stay there some day! I like it!

:hippie:
Yeah another reservation! A countdown calendar would be fun. I've never quite gotten around to making one yet. Maybe one of these days! Heck, as fast as time is flying you just almost might as well break out the suitcase and start tossing stuff in there! I would if I had the room to leave ours out. As it is I have a designated closet full of our luggage and the annual "go to Disneyland" goodies.

Ah well we hate to see you leave our group but at least you only had to delay. Beats not getting to go at all! Congrats to DH on the new position! Ya'll have fun in December!

:goodvibes
How exciting! Maybe not a big deal to get down there but I bet she loves the surprise! A wonderful way to celebrate a birthday.

Not a huge deal, but I lengthened my trip. We have a wedding to attend before my birthday celebration so I will be at DL starting on November 1st and 2nd with DH and DD and then the 3-5 with friends. I've never spent 5 days in a row at the parks...I'm excited!

Wow I had to do a little catch up on the reading. Our dogs went missing on Labor Day and we've been searching the shelters, papers and websites trying to find them. Well this morning I finally had a phone call from someone that picked up our Lab Gus over 7 miles away so I ran to pick him up, take him to the vet and search some more for our Border collie mix Tink. She's still missing. It's been a bittersweet day!

 hard to be happy when you are still worried! So glad you got Gus back...I hope Tink shows up too!

It's so wonderful to see so many of us going!! As for us, we smartened up and moved our hotel stay to Park Place :thumbsup2. I can't wait to see you all there :yay:.

Thansk for adding me to the list but can you change the last day Im there to the 6th please??? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

yay!!!

Bought some new luggage for our trip yesterday. Trying to resist the urge to start filling it.

Hello all!! I've got one more week until I can make my PS for the Plaza Inn (character breakfast) and Arieals Grotto (WOC preferred seating dinner):cool1:. I've got to look at the calender to verify which one goes on which date.

I've noticed a lot of positive reviews for the Monte Cristo sandwitch. at myparnera.com is a reciepe for such a sandwitch. While I'm sure it's not the exact same as Disney's, it may just do for a quick fix:idea:. For those who know what Panera is (soooo goooood:cloud9:) I'm sure it will turn out quite tasty. I'm trying their chicken and dumplings reciepe for dinner tonight.

I think you will enjoy the extra time! It is so nice to enjoy the park without being in such a rush. Got you updated too.

Oh no! I am so glad you found one of them and hope the other one turns up too.

It's so wonderful to see so many of us going!! As for us, we smartened up and moved our hotel stay to Park Place :thumbsup2. I can't wait to see you all there :yay:.
It is indeed nice to see so many who are going to be enjoying the happiest place on earth during November! I've never stayed at BWPPI but I do know where it is located. I think you will enjoy it being so conveniently located to the park. Right across the street!

Thansk for adding me to the list but can you change the last day Im there to the 6th please??? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

yay!!!
No problem at all! Got it!

Bought some new luggage for our trip yesterday. Trying to resist the urge to start filling it.
Oh boy! New travel goodies! Don't suppose it would hurt anything to just toss a FEW items in just to test it out!

Another week will fly by in no time. You will be on the phone with Disney before you know it!
I am one of the Monte Cristo fans! Don't think I would probably ever order one anywhere else but at Disneyland. It is just one of those must haves during our trip. I personally prefer the 3 cheese ones. (Does anyone know if you can order one of those at BB? I need to give it a try.) Anyway, not sure how your Panera recipe would compare but I do believe you can find the Disney version recipe floating around here somewhere. I found one! Check out this link, post #2. There are also some other recipes that might interest you. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2291352&highlight=monte+cristo+recipe
Can I come to your house tonight for chicken & dumplings? ;) One of my favorites!

So today was a good day for progress on my reservations! Made one for Rainforest Cafe on Nov. 14. Next up was Cafe Orleans on Nov. 18 and, the big one, Wine Country Trattoria World of Color package for Nov. 19. This will, of course, be our first time to see the WOC and out first time in all our trips to eat at WCT. I've always intended to do so. I finally found a good excuse! My plans are shaping up quite nicely. I want to go NOW!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that when I called Disney dining today it was kinda strange. He said he was having a time finding me because there were 4 or 5 other people with the very same name on the same day. How crazy is that? I never thought I had a particularly common name. Anyway, I hope it doesn't create any problems on our WOC night! I would be really disappointed if my reservation got lost. Crossing my fingers!
