November airfares!?!

Hi - I have a question for anyone flying to WDW in November, especially from the NE: why are the airfares so unbelievably high? Now, I've never booked the flights myself, but DU is no longer booking air travel, so I have to bite the bullet and do it myself. What I've noticed for the last 3 months, as I've been checking airfares periodically, is that Continental's flights for June through October are <$300, but in November they shoot up to $1300! Is there something I don't know? I'm travelling 11/8 - 11/15, so it's not Thanksgiving week or anything. It's almost impossible to get a Delta flight that's non-stop. I've heard lots of good things about JetBlue, but I really don't want to go all the way to JFK when Newark is so close.

Any advice or info. on this (I'm especially shocked about Continental's prices)?

Thanks!

I don't know if AirTran flies out of Newark, but we got a great rate for PHL-MCO leaving on 11/5 and returning 11/10. I think it came to ~$313 for 2 adults on direct, nonstop flights. Airtran was having a web special at the time and I don't know if it's still in effect. I believe USAirways also had a sale going a few weeks ago.

You might want to play around with flight times or even your dates. Maybe you can save some money with flying down the evening before and staying at a cheaper hotel for the night. Also, in the past, I seem to remember November airfare going on sale in August, so maybe sale fares will pop up again.

Good luck! I know how frustrating it can be not to get good airfare at the time you are looking for it.

We usually fly out of Newark, but almost always fly Delta, not Continental. Continental is just way too expensive!! I've always been able to get direct flights on Delta out of Newark.

However, you may also want to try out of LGA; we went out of LGA Memorial Day weekend, because the flights out of Newark were $100.00 more per person (we used our regular limo service, so the traffic wasn't frustrating, & we found the airport itself to be easier to navigate than Newark).

I booked our November flights (11/2-11/7) in late March & got Song, direct flights, out of Newark for $242.00 RT per person. Not great, but definitely better than Continental.

Good luck!!

I used Continental for my husband and son. They are going to Disney Nov 19 to Nov 27. I got rt nonstop for 222.00.

Aren't the dates you want to go over Jersey Week? COuld it be flights are getting full?

I booked our trip back in February. I paid $216.50 for a R/T, non-stop flight from Philly to Orlando, on USAirways, leaving on November 30 (I didn't realize, at that time, that it was Thanksgiving weekend). That flight is now up to $334.50 (has been that for a couple months now). We flew on AirTran, last year, and paid $343 for TWO R/T, non-stop tickets, but that was during "Jersey Week" in early November. AirTran was having a really good sale. Did you check there?

Thanks for all the info. and advice! I thought Jersey week was the first week of November - that's what someone told me, which is why we booked the second week. I'll definitely look into all the ideas from you guys - thanks again! :)

phyllis1996...I have to second what JKLLady said about checking out LaGuardia. I was fiddling around on Orbitz today and entered your dates for Newark to MCO. There was a suggestion about flying out of LGA for substantially cheaper fares. I really didn't pay attention to flight times or whether flights were nonstop or connecting. But it's definitely worth checking out, IMHO.

"Jersey Week" is the first week in November. The convention is on the 6 & 7. Our schools are closed on the 5, 6, 7, 10 & 11.

bumcat...."Jersey Week" is usually during the first week in November (although it can be the second week. I think it may be during the second week in a couple years, but I'm sure someone will keep you guys posted on here when it is!) All public schools here are closed that Thursday & Friday for the Teacher's Convention (held in Atlantic City, not WDW), so a lot of people from here go to WDW during that week since their kids won't miss much school. Different school districts will also have some other days off during this time, like ours. A couple years ago, we had off that whole first week! I've been to WDW twice, during "Jersey Week", and thought it was a little crowded, but others didn't. I'm planning on going down again, in November 2005, so it couldn't have been that bad, huh! lol We have always had GREAT weather during this time of year.

Thanks, Dopey - I had never heard of that before, learn something new every day!
