November 7, 2009 ~~~~ AHOY ST.CROIX ~~~~

Hi everyone,

I am on my last day off here. I cant imagine the thought of going back tomorrow. I am enjoying sleeping in late going to bed late and taking naps. Poor me I know. But really this flu did kick my butt.

Sorry you are not feeling so well Kathy. Sending you warm wishes:wizard: that you get to feeling like yourself really soon.

Nathan's fever finally broke last night and he was sweating away. He still is no where near better but we are on the way. Thank god his flu test was negative. He just has a bad cold.

Anyway just checking in to say hello. Hope everyone has a great day. I will check in later.

Traci

Today has been a productive day for me. I think I have almost completed all of our door magnets and I have our gift to the point I am feeling comfortable about getting it done soon. I think the number I heard last for the count I will need was about 35. If it's more, will someone let me know?

I am so sorry so many of you are sick. It hasn't hit our family yet. Donna and I are going to Disney on October
1. It will probably hit us then.

Everyone have a wonderful evening.

Bonnie

Hope you all who are ill feel better soon!

Didn't get my zipper put in. We went to see the Disney Train today, at our local station. I don't normally do movies, but I CAN"T WAIT to see A Christmas Carol. It opens on the night before we sail - so I hope it is on the ship :)

Then we went to K-mart and I bought two pairs of "Chic Jeans" (ON SALE, 2 sizes smaller!) Woo HOO! Got tired of baggy pants, but I love that brand - it seems to be shaped for me.

Then we came home, had lunch and had a nap. Oh the joys of retirement, lol.

Hi Mike, nice to have you stopping by.:goodvibes

Traci, so glad you and Nathan are on the mend.:cool1:

Bonnie , you can go to page 29 on this thread for a list of people on the FE exchange to check on your cruise mtes list. Most have that listed too.
I have lost count now and need to go back and check myself.:rolleyes1

Did anybody tell you or Donna about the bracelets many are ordering too? We will wear them so we can recognise each other around the ship. I thinks Shauna is in charge of ordering them. if your interested you can PM stampinshauna for information. The more who order the less they cost.
Kathy

Good thought, Kathy! We don't really have a central place for information, do we?

Are you feeling better?

We had home made bean soup for supper. It was delicious. Did you get your cake made?

Tomorrow, it will be off to the gym and pool again in the morning, and then I *will* get that darn zipper put in.

Have a good evening!

I love to make bean soup and biscuits or cornbread.:goodvibes
We are both not feeling good tonight. Greg had a bowl of soup then laid down for the past 2 hours.

I did get the cake done not without some problems but it is ok. Greg will blow out his candles and have a piece in a few minutes. He is trying to get rid of a headache first.

Good night all,

Kathy

Sorry that sickness seems to be going around! I know I am washing, washing hands like crazy here...flu shots still a little while off. And teaching 3rd graders- they are little germ factories! :rotfl:Not as bad as when I taught kindergarten, though.

It may be fall but it is still HOT here- 104 today...ugh. No cooldown till the weekend. I can't wait for fall weather to finally get here. Or, at least the cooler temperatures. Usually in the fall here we have "Santa Ana winds" which blow hot and strong. They started just mildly today and already DD has asthma problems. Grrrrr.

I am about halfway done with our FE stuff. One more thing to order. I need to get to Disneyland soon! The Halloweentime stuff begins on Friday, and we're all biting at the bit to go. Space Mountain gets a Halloween overlay this year, I can't wait! Plus the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay is our very favorite.

Christine

Oh, Lucky you, Christine! - Disneyland! I hope to visit again after the Panama Canal cruise next winter.

Kathy, it's Greg's birthday? No wonder you had to make a cake despite feeling punk :( Hope you both feel better today!

Grim grey day here in the north east, 66 degrees. I've got the zipper put in the evening bag and the outside assembled. Working on the lining, now. I didn't go to the pool this morning because I was so distracted by the train yesterday - swimsuit, towels and all stayed in the washer instead of the dryer. wet suit=yuck!

Happy day, all!

OK guys, jumping in here to say.....I signed up for the FE thing, but now I'm getting nervous....last time I counted (and that was a week or so ago) it was up to something like 75 people (counting each person in the cabins that are participating, not counting my own family of course).

This is my first cruise, so first FE too, and I'm a little daunted by the thought of making/buying/packing/distributing 75+ gifts.....how on earth do the rest of you do it? I'm thinking I may need to drop out....

Wow, trying to catch up here after 8 days off. Went to Washington DC with my mom and DD to visit my cousin and her family. I told my mom last night at the airport that I'm ready for a Disney trip now (have had 2 non-Disney trips in a row now). As we were flying across the country last night, I realized that in 6 weeks from tonight we'll be flying to FL--hooray!

Welcome to those of you who have joined our thread since last week!

I've updated the wristband thread on page 62 with those who pm'd me today.

DisNae--you could do FE gifts as 1 per cabin if you prefer, that is how I'm doing it.

Can I ask a the question of the day today? It is a practical question (and one that I'd love help with)....
What is something that you like to do to help entertain young children on airplanes?

Howdy all,

Gosh its wednesday already. This week is flying by for me.
Linda Greg is a bit better today and I am no worse. I think if I could just rest a bit today I will be much better tomorrow. The cake turned out good:goodvibes

Ok the only child we have taken on an airplane was our oldest grandaughter when she was 5. We flew from Portland Oregon to Orlando Florida our first trip to WDW. I was so worried about keeping her entertained for 7 1/2 hours flying time:eek:

So i went to the store and bought a princcess backpack. I put a small Disney story book, a mini etch a sketch, crayons and coloring books,I one of those pads you can draw on , then raise up the paper and it disappears, plus many more little things. Then I got several mini snack items. Like 3 Kisses, 2 mini bags of M& M's, individually wrapped cookies, just every little thing she would not normally get, oh yes a small purse for her spending money with a bit of her money in it for her.
I didn't tell her about it and we hid it in the trunk until we got out at the airport. I then gave it to her and told her not to peak until after take off.

It was heavy so she was so curious that it occupied her until I said it was ok to open. I dont think she even knew we had taken off. Then she reached in and grabbed out a game that was on top and we all played with her , then she would go to the next thing. It lasted both the to and from flights.

I couldnt believe she only took out one item at a time. I would of taken out everything right away.:lmao: This was of course before they had so many restrictions at the airports but most things you can still bring that i had. Just have to unwrap the cookies and put in a clean baggie so they can see it.

So that is what I did. It worked great.

Kathy

I realized that we have a lot of different lists going on for our thread, and I'd love to have them all linked in one place. I have a hard time remembering which pages different lists are on, so I've compiled them. I thought we may want to copy and paste this list on every thread page or so, so that we don't have to keep looking back for the lists. If there are more lists that should be added, let me know.

Okay, I think I'm up to speed now. I just read around 10 pages!

I'm still in on the scrapbook swap, but don't know my theme yet, I'll let you know.

Too bad so many have been sick but I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better. Let's all get the sickness out of our systems so that we can all be healthy on the cruise!

I'm planning to finalize the wristband stuff next week. So, I'm thinking Sept 30th will be the cut off day for orders. If anyone else wants to order, please let me know ASAP. Also, if anyone wants extras for family or friends who are cruising, or if you want an extra for a scrapbook or whatever, let me know.

We let them each take a small bag with little things in it, ie. the small princess toys, etc. We also take one or two new little things that they have not seen before so it's a new surprise. We have been bringing the DVD player with two ear phones and that works wonderfully for at least an hour or more, depending on what movie they are watching. (It's usually a princess movie or something Disney.) I would also be interested to see what everyone else does.

Bonnie

Hey All,

It's my first day back at work :scared1:. I am so tired I think I am going to go home and crash hard tonight. Everyone has been so sweet and missed me. That is nice to know.

I still feel kinda uhhhh. I have an ear infection in the other ear now but whatever. At least the flu symptoms are gone. Like Tim said at least we are getting sick now and not when the cruise comes around.

When I take my son on a plane I also buy him a new little back pack. I pack crayons, coloring books and some cards so he and I can play a game. Now that he is older he likes to bring his i-pod and portable game systems. I pack some of his favorite snacks, candy not too many but something he is familar with. He always does very well. Oh I always back gum so his ears dont hurt.

As for the FE. I say this is something we are doing bc we want to and not bc we have to. People give what you think you can and what will be best for your family. No one will be upset in the gift that they recieve. I am giving a gift to each child and one gift per family/stateroom. Please dont feel like you have to do more than you can.

If you want give a gift to children only or one per stateroom. I cant afford to give one to each person either. let me know if you have any questions.

I am super glad that the time is counting down for our cruise.:woohoo:

Hope everyone feels better. Have a great day!

Glad to hear Greg is better, Kathy, but I wish you were too.

Rest, Traci! Doctor Mom says, soup for supper or something easy like grilled cheese.

Shauna, THANK YOU! I have been making myself nuts trying to keep track of what's where.

Page Swappers - I had an idea for my page - before I try it out, is there any one who can NOT use a 12 x 12?

First evening bag is done, second one in progress.

See you later.

Hello my friends!

What a crazy month I am having... you don't even want to know.

Anyway, Linda, congrats on the smaller jeans! I am fine with a 12x12 page.

I wonder when the flu shots will be available? I will ask my doc, I want to make sure we are good and vaccinated before travelling.

Welcome Bonnie, we are glad to hear from you.

On the subject of FEs... I am making a gift for each cabin which is really more for the adults, then I am going to do some small loot bag type stuff for the kiddos. I agree with Traci, just do what you can, don't stress about it. It's just for fun after all, and this certainly seems like a very easy going group, so it's nothing to worry about.

I hope everyone is having a great week and keeping well and away from the flu!

Hi Everyone!

Back to the scrapbooking swap, how about we just say that we can either do a page, or a bag, or some cross between the two. (for example someone might put some double mats together, make a border or title, put some appropriate quotes on to mats, some decorative tags, stickers etc. and put it into a bag without a page behind it, but there would still be some creativity there - this is what I was kind of thinking about) Then for those who want to put together a page, great, and those would find it easier to travel with pieces, that is fine too. Did anyone want to set a price range?

For a theme, I was thinking I would like to do Fun at the Beach. So that means we have
Traci - Pirate
Linda - Souvenirs from the Ship
Laurie - Fun at the Beach
Silly Little Pixie (Christine) - Sail Away Party
Stampin Shauna -
Minnie Mouse -

Who else is in?

Hi,

Please count me in for the scrapbook exchange; my theme will be Fish Extender. Have the idea and working on a mockup, still not sure yet if it will be a page or the ingredients for a page. It will just be a surprise.

It is my first time doing a page for others you never know what you might get. :rotfl2:

See you all soon.

Dale (and DH Bob, the helper)

Shauna - Awesome! Thanks for compiling those links. SO much easier!

As for the plane travel with kids, two thumbs up for the DVD player! The batteries don't seem to last too long, but if you are connecting flights, there are usually outlets in the terminals so you can recharge.

Our group is going to order wristbands so we'll compile the order for one mailing.

FEs - My plan is to do one gift per stateroom but small goody bags for kids. This may depend on the final count!

Hope everyone is feeling better. Get those flu shots... got mine this week. The illnesses are already running rampant at our elementary school here. Ugh.

Ok, so if I have this correctly, the FE list is at:

27 staterooms

29 kids: 10 boys ; 19 girls

Someone double check my math. I know this will change a bit, but wanted an idea of where we are at.
