November 5th 2011 Eastern on the Magic

Hi everyone!

Oh, Tim (switzert).... I never had a chance to meet you or your family (amongst other people). I wanted to tell you a funny story... so I'll just tell it here. On our way to the ship, we were on the Disney Bus, and this huge U-Haul passed us in the other lane.... I just started to laugh out loud, and my DH asked what was funny. I told him that U-Haul was "switzert's" SUV with all the luggage he was hauling. haha. (then I told DH how we were all joking around with all the luggage you brought). Anyway, that UHaul made me think of you. haha.

But, I do have a question for you, Tim.... I found out you are a big guy... did you by chance play the 3-on-3 basketball on one of the sea days up in the basketball course, and if so, do you by chance go by "Tiny Tim"? If so, then you played 3-on-3 with my husband Eric, and I have pictures of you guys playing. If that wasn't you, then never mind. But, this guy "Tiny Tim" my husband played with and met was a big tall guy!

Would be so ironic if that were you... I watched most of the 3-on-3 game.

Take care everyone... would love to keep in touch with those who are interested.

Bye for now!!!

Kathy

Yep, Your Husband played on the Champion Ship Team with Josh and I. I told Josh as we were leaving I thought that was your husband. Mostly because of your son's red hair... I said I think he the son of one of the women on the disboard.

We actually were able to down to just 7 checked bags + carry one between the five of us.

We didn't book another cruise and probably won't... My DD and I thouroughly enjoyed the cruise, but my DW has confirmed she is not a cruiser. She says it takes her three days to get used to the ship, not sick, but just feeling funny. We all were exhausted by the last day. We went back to work feeling more tired than when we left. My DW enjoys being able to lay on the beach and do nothing. So we will probably go to a beaches or all-inclusive resort next time.

We also had a few hiccups. On Wednesday morning my DD woke up with a fever. We hoped it was from being in the sun so much on St. Martin, and snorkeling, but we took her to the ships doctor and confirmed she got strep throat. So we had a additional $200.00 bill to get her some antibiotics. She felt better in a couple hours but we kept her in the room and away from everyone for 24 hours, but we still started seeing more and more sick people on Thursday and Friday... On the Thursday's checkup the nurse disclosed that here had been several cases earlier in the week and more on Thursday. I hope no one here caught it.

Oh ya, After snorkeling in St. Martin, we took my wife to front street for shopping and Josh and I took my DD to the beach. We went to find wife and she was still in the same jewelery store. I told Josh, "I'm in serious trouble, I'm not going in there..." He went in, and soon returned with his wife. He was so laughing... because I was right!:scared1: My DW got a great deal on a 2 1/2 carat diamond ring. It is beautiful, and she talked them down from 15k to 9K. I was furious at first, but I planned to buy her a new ring in this price range for our 10 year anniversary next year, so she bought it early! We got it for 7.5K... So our cruise budget went up substantially.:headache:

I also think this is where my DD got sick their were lots kids playing on the beach and she was playing ball with them, and the water didn't look the cleanest either.
Though I want to get an appraisal before our 30 day warranty expires.

I'll post some picks when I get home this weekend.

Anybody else wonder about the large windmill we could see from the ship at St. Thomas? I was curious what building it was but never made it over there.

It was put their to show the history of St. Thomas and the Caribbeans history of sugar plantations. They used Wind Mills to process the Sugar Cane into Sugar.

St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix, and Tortola are my favorite places in the Caribbean still! I like to stay at a resort and use the Ferries to make my own cruise...

We rented a car and I drove Kelly and Josh around the island. I had driven the island many times. DW Aimee stayed on the ship with Toree. She got sick the morning with strep throat... It ruined two days of the cruise for them. Thinking she got it in St. Martin somewhere...

We had a wonderful time and it was a great first cruise! We did not get to meet a whole lot of people from the board . . . we seemed to always be doing something. Saw GMa Kathy a couple of times and a few others here and there. If any of you saw the late show on the last night, that was Peter up on the stage with the magician; he really brought the house down, everyone was cracking up.

We booked on board for a 7 night Western on 11.23.13 on the Fantasy over Thanksgiving! So that is exciting too.

Anyway, here are some pictures:

Oh my goodness, THIS Peter was your son??!!! :rotfl: He's famous! We were at that show, and we were laughing SO hard we were almost crying, and the poeple behind us were just roaring with laughter! Peter was SOOOOOOO hysterical and absolutely PERFECT that night. What a cute cute cute boy he is!!! He reminded me of my boys when they were his age!

Hopefully you got that all on video!!!! :) That is great, too, that that card turned into a dollar for him. :) :) I bet he just was amazed by that!!

Sorry we didn't get to meet you guys... I am sure we saw you, but didn't know it was you!

Well, at least everyone got to see Peter! He's a celebrity!

So, that WAS you!! I was there watching for the 2nd half of the game (obviously, since I have pictures). It was so funny because after the game was over, Eric pointed to you (I didn't realize that was you), and he said, "see that big guy over there... The name he goes by is Tiny Tim!" :lmao: Then, he started to laugh because Eric was the smallest guy by far on the court. haha!!! Eric is only 5'8" and 160 lbs. Anyway, love your nick name!! :) So, how did you get that nick name?

Anyway, I can't believe that was you... I wish I had known... I would have introduced myself.

Here are some more pictures from the 3-on-3 game now that I know that was you:

We are big sports people (love to play sports mostly), so we were always looking for all the fun sports events up in the sports court. Funny that you played the 3-on-3 with my husband, and Matt's son, Cole, played the 3-on-3 game with my son Ryan. How ironic!!

Sorry to hear about your daugher and the strep throat! Bummer!! Yah, I know all about the Dr. bill from the ship... when I sprained my ankle on our last 7-day Eastern, I was slapped with a $200 Dr. bill from that. Well, hopefully she is doing better.... bummer to hear there were more people with strep! That is the one thing about cruise ships is they can be a big breeding ground for germs, so it can be easy for people to catch stuff. Nobody in our family got sick, so no worries here about your daughter being contagious with our kids at least.

And, you have to post a picture of the ring!!! That is awesome that your wife got that ring (well, I'm sure after you saw that bill, you weren't saying the word "awesome"), but to get that size Karat for that price is very good!! Well, happy early 10 year anniversary!!! Your 10 year anniversary will now truly sparkle! :thumbsup2

Hope everyone is getting back to normal... sorry your wife did not like cruising as much. It really isn't for everyone... so at least you guys tried it, and now you know what kind of vacation you for sure want to do next time! We like to mix it up and do vacations other than cruises for sure, so it's good to have a variety of things.

Glad you made it home safe!

Take care,
Kathy

We saw the show with Peter in, we were laughing so hard, he is quite the character!

Happy early Anniversary, yeah for your wife! Like Kathy said i think we need to see pictures of the ring!

Sorry your DD got sick, $200 to see the Dr onboard:scared1: Thankfully we have never had to deal with that.

I love seeing all the pics!

Matt, the one with Minnie & the little one nose to nose is precious!

Kathy LTR, you guys looked great on pirate night!

GMA Kathy, sorry you are getting a cold.

Claire, I'll take you up on that pirate costume! Isabella's will definately NOT fit next year! Just b/c we didn't talk much on the ship doesn't mean we can't now, we should try to get together for coffee or something soon. Do they still have that coffee shop at the Promenade? As for the room bookings, that is what we experienced also! When we got home & I looked up the prices, I found that we could get a full verrandah for barely more than we were paying for an obstructed verrandah. I asked our travel agent to make the switch, I'm hoping the room was still available. THAT is what the travel agent on the ship should have been doing--making sure you got the best room you could. I will be sending an email.

Forgot to mention that Isabella lost a tooth on Castaway Cay. When we got back on the ship I went to Guest Services and they printed out a certificate from the Tooth Fairy & Tinker Bell and gave me a 'Magical Moments' pin for her. I then went and bought a Goofy vinylmation she was eyeing up and put them out for her the next morning.

OH and I forgot to mention that I found a pearl in my oyster at Palo! It's about a half cm big, I'll post a pic later when my camera battery is recharged.

As for servers, we loved ours! We had Stirling & Putu. We had wished we hadn't tipped our Palo server so much so that we could have given it to them. Isabella gave them a pin each & a bag of candy. She adored them. The last night Stirling had a special steak cooked for Mike. We made sure to say they were Excellent. I was very disappointed in the conch chowder however, there was no conch! I made sure to tell the Head Server guy, who was pointless, IMO. I guess they keep things on task? I don't know what his job was.

Well, my temp is finally gone so I have lots of work to do. I'm still fixing her mistakes! I'm going to have to do something different next year!

Danielle

Yes we should definitely get together for coffee soon, i think Panera Bread is still at the Promenade, if not Starbucks is over by Trader Joes. I will send you a PM, with my email and #.

So exciting that Isebella lost her tooth at Castaway Cay. Josh lost one last year and Tinkerbell brought him a pin, didn't think to goto guest services though!

Claire

Wow all the pictures are great!
Switzert sorry your daughter got sick and wow yes we need to see a picture of that ring!
We are all getting back to normal here. I am not feeling as much on a boat... We got snow again today, my winter tires are going on my car on thursday... Need to get Sean his boots today, I know a little late... Looking forward to putting up our christmas decorations this weekend. We already had our thanksgiving so it is time... :)
Have a great Friday!
Tanya

Adorable pics of Peter! Too bad we were at the early show! My DH was on stage during our show, he was the lucky one to wear the boxers (and had NO idea that there was an I in the middle of the butt until we were packing to go home).

Tim, Wowzers! Mike should be thankful I only ended up getting $200 earings! I'm sooooo sorry to hear Toree got sick :( Isabella was fine, we all were. I'm surprised to hear so many on the ship got sick. I thought they were really on top of things germ-spreading wise.

Lots of great pics GMA Kathy! I can't believe that was Peter & Greg at Palo's! I had NO idea at all!

And Kathy LTR, thanks for the compliments, you looked beautiful as well! Loved the dress!

I forgot about eating dinner at Top Siders, I guess because we didn't have a need to seek dinner elsewhere. We enjoyed our servers and they always got us out of there quickly, usually even before the kids club staff came to collect the kiddos. We had her go with them Formal Night, but I think we even left the restaurant before she did.

Morning all,

So sorry to hear Toree for sick. Can't wait to see a photo of that ring. WOW!! my hubby would kill me if I spent that much on anything without consulting him first. But also if I really wanted it, he would say to get it. He is wonderful that way.
I hope the appraisal comes out really good for you. They do have some great buys for jewelry on the islands.:thumbsup2

Karen, I wish I was at the show where Peter was on Stage. But I was at the opposite show. I bet he was great.

I did see Darcy on stage with the Hypnotist which was great.

Wish we were back on the islands as we are 38 degrees and dropping fast. Going to be ciy roads tomorrow and snow all around us in the low hills. Probably snow/rain mix for us although it may stick at night. We rarely get snow here, and when we do get it , its never this early.

I need to go get a few groceries this mornign before the nasty weather sets in. I am just feeling lazy and hate to do that 30 minute drive to the store today. But I think I had better go, just in case.

I love all the stories and photos everyone has been sharing. I hope there will be more to come before we all say good bye on this thread.

Back later tonight,
Kathy

Toree is like me, she doesn't get sick but she catches Strep throat easy. I did until I had my tonsils taken out. I don't think I have sick 5 times in 20 years now.

I still haven't slept a full night in my bed since the cruise. Got a Call on St. Thomas that I needed to go to Wichita, KS for my job, and now I am on my way back.

Got good news, my wife got a bonus that paid 1/2 the ring off after taxes. She says she didn't know it was coming... Umm ya, I'm believing that! I just want her to be happy. :rotfl2: She works hard and deserves it!

Current Airplane is oversold and they are offering $600.00 to get bumped. Considered it. That is one round trip ticket back to the Caribean, or Turks and Caicos. Which is where I want to go next. Think I want to try a Beaches resort.

I'll post some pics hopefully tomorrow. Got some great ones snorkeling underwater in St. Martin.

So, did you take the $600.00 to get bumped?!! :thumbsup2 Earlier this year, Eric was in London for business, and he had been gone for almost two weeks... the airline (British Airways) was oversold, and since Eric was in Business Class, they offered him 80,000 miles to get bumped. He did not take it, and I found out after he got home that he chose to not take the deal! I couldn't believe it. 80,000 miles is almost a free round trip ticket to Europe in business class... oh well. But, he was so tired of being gone from us, so he just wanted to get home. I don't blame him, but we could have handled him being gone 1 more day for a free 80,000 airline miles (we are planning a trip to Europe next summer, so those 80,000 miles would have come in handy).

Well, glad your wife got a bonus! That came in handy at the right time. :thumbsup2

Still waiting for a picture of the ring! popcorn::

Kathy

Morning all,

Just checking to see if anyone posted new photos. None yet, hopefully today someone will post a few.

We got lucky, no snow here this morning but there is some in the hills around us. Its 37, rainy and cold.
Wishing we were back on the ship in the tropics!!!

Will check back later today,

kathy

24 hours and no new photos listed:confused3

Hopefully by tomorrow we will have a few more photos.

I have a few more to share but my internet is acting up again so posting photos isnt working too good for me right now.

Kathy

Hi everyone,

Yes, I'd love to see more pictures, if anyone has any! :) Hard to believe it was just a week ago we all got off the ship. :(

I had a busy weekend... we had my big 40th bday party (the wine and cheese party), and it was a blast! So, big party weekend... but it's all over now, and it'll be another 10 years until I have a big celebration like I did this time. I only do big parties/celebrations every 10 years... in between, just go out to dinner... nothing big. :)

Hope everyone is well!!

Take care,
Kathy

Hi Kathy,

Glad you had a great birthday party.:banana::banana:

Quiet here today. Its too darn cold to go out and do anything. Just made sloppy Joes for dinner tonight. Not as good as a Chef on the ship but it warms the tummy.

Tomorrow I will post a few more photos but they might be from WDW before the cruise.

Back tomorrow,
hope someone posts a few more photos,

Kathy
