November 5th 2011 Eastern on the Magic

We felt it here in Greensboro, NC. I was at my desk and knew exactly what it was. 15 min later there were reports all over the web and Scott emailed me to ask if I felt it. He did in his office. Did anyone else feel it? Hope all is ok.

Your Fe looks great!!!

Love the critter photos too and great names by the way:thumbsup2

CC does sanitize all their snorkeling gear. Sometimes the mask can be stretched out a bit too much and leak. We had that problem a couple of times but you can take it back and request a different one if you want.
You MUST wear the vest, it is mandatory so the life guard knows where you are at all times. The farthe rout you go the more things you will see there.

They had some huge eels and rays last time we went. Of course there is s sunken ship and everyone looks for the hidden mickey statue.:goodvibes

All DCL sponsored snorkeling excursion should have sanitized equipment. In fact when your done with your equipment they have you put it in a special tub that starts sanitizing. They have to meet sanitization standards before DCL will use them.

Sometimes on CC there can be a bit of a line for equipment rental but it comes and goes all day long. They have plenty so no need to book it ahead of time.
We always just walk up and rent it on the spot. That way if we dont feel like snorkeling we dont feel we need ot do it since we have it reserved already and paid for. Same thing with tubes, they have hundreds of them to rent.

One thing about CC is by 2 P.M. many head back to the ship so the water clears out a lot and you can pretty much have the snorkeling area to yourself for a couple of hours before you have to board the ship.

Of course I didnt feel it out here in Oregon but I did read on line there were NO injuries reported, at least not yet, just a few cracked windows.
So it seems all is well.

This is an example of a potato , carrot car you make in 10 minutes to compete in the Mickey 200 race. Greg got the carrot to look like a mickey head for the driver.

We had been on so many DCL cruises I decided to make a pirate party at my dining room table. All the glasses, eye patches, head bandanas, gold earrings are all from the pirate party on board, even the gold coins which are chocolates. Here are a few photos of my party.
Note the china closet is filled with Disney stuff too.

If that doesnt prove I am a Disney nut, this sure will.

My husband painted silouettes around our pool deck for me.

We have moved since then. This was our house in Florida before we moved back to Oregon.

My kitchen counters were covered with Disney cookie jars and canister sets too.

Off to walk my pups,

It is so crazy how far up the east coast people felt that quake!! I bet it was freaky to feel it.

Obviously, I didn't feel it here in Seattle (that would be SOME earthquake if we felt it all the way over here! :lmao: ), but it was breaking news here on the news channels, and has been on the news off and on all day.

I was surprised to hear about this earthquake! Virginia is a place you would not think of having earthquakes, BUT obviously, any place can have an earthquake... I know that... but just was a place that you just don't think of that happening. Here in the Pacific Northwest, it's on our minds a lot, of course. And, growing up in Alaska... earthquake country, is what they call it... I am so used to earthquakes that sometimes when a big truck drives by our house and there is a rumble, the first thing I think of is, "earthquake". :)

Well, I'm glad all is ok... it sounds like there wasn't any major damage (at least what I've heard of on TV), so that is good.

I've also been following Hurricane Irene! I've been thinking about Castaway Cay! It sounds like the hurricane is going right over the Bahamas, so I'm guessing Castaway Cay is getting a beating. I hope there won't be too much damage or beach erosion. And, I wonder what the Disney Ships are doing right now... I'm guessing there are sea days for the Castaway Cay days. Our travel agent for Disney is actually on the Dream right now... I already emailed her asking if they were affected by Irene. I should hear back from her in a few days after she gets back.

Hopefully Florida won't be affected too badly... it looks like Irene is now going to be a little off the coast of Florida, so the eye won't be hitting the coastline... but I know that can change.

Glad it's not November!!! Hopefully all the hurricanes will be done and over with by November 5! :thumbsup2

Kathy (Gma X4), those are very cute pictures! :) I especially loved the pool pictures. Very cute. When I saw the pool pictures, I was trying to figure out who would have an outdoor pool in Oregon! :rotfl: But, then I saw it was your house in Florida... now that makes sense!!! How fun!

:)

I love the pool sillouettes!! That is a great idea. Glad you are having a fun pirate party too. The pineapple is very cute too. Thx for the info on the snorkling gear. We probably will not bring our own. DH has special short flippers that I got him for Xmas so he might bring those but not all the gear.

No damage in GSO from the quake and no aftershocks yet. We're far inland also so Irene will be just some much needed rain we hope and 25 mph wind unless the path changes.

Have a great evening everyone!:dance3:

OK, since we can do cat pictures too:

Wow, I love your cats!!! The one in the box (muffin) with the green eyes is so beautiful. Are Muffin's eyes actually green, or is that just a reflection of the flash on your camera? And, Miki is really beautiful, too... really pretty coloring!! And, wild turkeys!!! Wow, that is so cool!

I love seeing different parts of the country. We do not have wild turkeys here (or if we do, not where I live for sure). Your property is so pretty! Do you live in the country, or do you just live in a town where everyone has a lot of property? I live pretty much in the city (we don't live in Seattle, but a suburb of Seattle, but it's all still the city), so we just have houses on either side of us, BUT we are lucky because our house is backed up right next to a greenbelt (which is wooded city property, so nobody can ever build there since it's property owned by the city that will never be developed... it's the city's way of keeping wooded areas around.) So, even though we don't have a lot of property, it feels like we do because of the greenbelt behind us. :) So, we get a lot of different animals around, but not wild turkeys. :) We have LOTS of wild rabbits... you know as they say, where there is one rabbit, there are many! :lmao: Then, we have tons of squirrels and raccoons.

There is also a bald eagle's nest that is about 1/2 mile away from where we live (we live very close to a big lake), and the bald eagles nest is on the lake, so we see bald eagles flying over our house a lot, which is really cool.

Anyway, it's fun to see your cats... and I love how your cat was chasing the turkeys. :) Has your cat ever caught a turkey? :)

Hi all
Sorry to hear that Jetflyer is no longer with us :(
We felt the earthquake up here, though I didn't feel it but people in our office did, we are an hour north or toronto. People were walking by my desk asking if I felt the building move I thought they were crazy but then reports were all over the internet and radio.

I love all your pictures, I love Miki and Elmo! kathy (momx4) love your pool you had. We have wild turkeys here as well, they just walk accross the road slowly and I am driving about 80kms... They give me a heart attack. Took the kids cammping to Algonquin Park which is a huge Provinical Park in June and saw five moose. We have deer where I live.

OK it is time to start a diet before the cruise... i gained so much weight, I have to get back on track... literally go run on a track...LOL

Tanya

Great cat photos. I also love the one with the wild turkeys.:lmao: I wonder what would happen if he ran after them. I guess they would scatter everywhere :goodvibes

Of course you can post cats, Karen or Peter ( who ever posted), everyone has different pets. All are welcome, Birds, cats, horses, fish, hamsters, dogs, rats, well I have to admit I am not crazy about rats or mice as pets or lizards. But photos of them is ok. I am an animal lover, all kinds of critters:cloud9:

Kathy,
CC is off to the side it shouldnt be too bad, but i bet the ship due to stop tomorrow will have a sea day. There will be some clean up. I know with just minor rough seas the ship cant back in to dock. Many cruises have had to miss CC. Our last cruise Captain Tom tried for a couple hours before we finally had a safe docking. It was his last cruise before going to Germany to wait for the Dream. So he was determined to get us docked.:thumbsup2

So far we have only missed one port due to rough seas. That was Grand Caymen on the Western. It was too rough for the tender boats to run safely.

I love moose! :) They are ALL over in Alaska... a lot of Alaskas say they are just pests, but I loved them. They were always in our yard growing up. I miss seeing them. That is great you saw moose when you went camping. :)

Yah, our last cruise (the Panama Canal Cruise in January this year), our captain (I think it was Captain Henry) tried for about 2 hours to dock at Castaway Cay, but then he just gave up. The skies were blue, but there was a LOT of wind... waves were crashing up over the dock. A lot of the CM's on board were really really sad about not going to Castaway Cay because for a lot of them, it would be their last time at Castaway Cay (since the Wonder was relocating to the West Coast), and a lot of the CM's are friends with the CM's who work/live on the island, so they were never able to see their friends on the island to say goodbye.

I'll have to post some pictures when I get around to it of the day we tried to dock when it was so rough and windy... we got some great pictures of the waves crashing up on the dock.

Those are all great ideas! Unfortunately it's a negative on the veranda and the spa lol! The rose petals and champagne sound nice...just need to ditch the kids for a while;)

As for the earthquake, here in North Carolina my coworkers felt it and I didn't. I was just 2 blocks away, but I was disappointed. It stopped my cell phone from working too!

Still haven't decided about FE's but I'm just now into the magnets a bit. Anyone else doing magnets? If so, any good clip art? I found the ears to go around the room number but lost the link, luckily I printed the ears when I saw them. Wouldn't mind making some for my mom's door though.

Hello Everyone,

I just could not take it anymore and had to join and post :yay:

Please allow me to say that everyone's posts have been more than helpful and makes me even more so excited to be taking my first Disney Cruise.....

I do have a question in regards to the pressing of my clothes. I know that we are unable to bring a portable iron as someone mentioned that it would be confiscated but are we truly able to bring a portable steamer (as posted by someone else in another forum)?

Thank you in advance and again I cannot wait to sail with this great group of individuals :cheer2:

Kathy,

Thanks for the compliment. Muffin's eye's are in fact green. We live in I guess what you'd call outer suburbs of Greensboro in a subdivision on a two acre lot that backs up to 100 acres that is going to be used for a state park area or something. So we get our share of critters, but no moose here in NC! Lots of deer, possums etc. Saw a coyote once. We moved out here to get a little more room in the yard.

G'nite everyone,

Scott

WELCOME !!
I am Kathy, may I ask what is your name??
We have 2 Kathy's and a Kathleen, so I am always curious to see if your another Kathy:lmao: ( we are actually all Kathleen)

The laundry rooms have irons you can use for free. Dont know about the steamer?? I just go use the iron for my clothes whne needed.

They dont allow irons due to fear of fire if someone left it on and left the room. Plus you can pay ot have your clothes pressed too. I dont remember the price but it wasnt too bad. Usually have it all back in 24 hours or less.

We are doing a FE (gift exchange) If your not sure what that is please let me know and I will be happy to explain it to you. Then let me know if your interested. We have a liat of those particiapting.
I also have a list of everyone coming and the names and ages of all the kids so people can find who has kids the ages of their kids. I am happy to add your fmaily to the list and send you a copy.

You dont have enough posts to send a PM, but if you want to e-mail me at sixtoedfrog@yahoo.com with your names I will happily add you and send you a copy. That will help you to get to know us too.
