My sister works at BWI and the airport was open today. Lots of short tempers, but planes were flying. You'll be fine by Friday.

Most of our airports opened today, so our flight tomorrow morning should go off as scheduled! I'm still nervous every time I check the status & wait for the cancelled, but still says ON TIME! I had a car rented, just in case, cause there's no availability on any Southwest flight until Saturday night & that's just too late! So happy to not have to drive!

Now if I could just finish packing & get the car loaded! Gonna be a long day tomorrow. See y'all Saturday!!!! Can't wait....though I do feel guilty to be going to my happy place & then on to paradise while I leave everyone behind to deal w/ the aftermath. But I think I'll get over it when I see Mickey!

Day 2 of clean up at work. 16inches of ocean water in a building makes me not want to smell seafood for a while. Well at least until lobster night!

Sore back and tired of being wet and pulling up carpet and lots of junk.
I have to remind my boss of my flight out friday eve. I feel bad having to leave them behind in all the mess.

The phone system partially fried due to the wiring at floor level getting salt water, the computor mainframe fried the batter backup and was 1 inch from the main server. Some still not working.

I need a vacation but hope not to be concerned the whole time!

Hi everyone!
First I just want to give a big to all my Northeastern neighbors dealing with the devastation of Sandy.
Next I want to scream.
Since the NJ Teachers' Convention was cancelled for next Thurs & Fri in AC, our school superintendent has decided to cancel those days off. That means instead of my kids missing 2.5 days, they will miss 4.5. They are in grades 7 & 10 so for my 10th grader, this will be a massive amount of instructional time missed.

This was just now dumped on us, 9:30 tonight, as we have our bags by the front door, ready to fly tomorrow afternoon. We have insurance but of course it doesn't cover "suddenly having to go to school."

We are OK, thanks for asking. We just got power back about an hour ago. We lost it Monday night. Have to empty both refrigerators.

Our flight is still on and we are looking forward to seeing everyone on Sat. We certainly earned this vacation.

I guess we're not the only ones. I know so many people are dealing with so much worse things right now but I feel like I'm between a rock and hard place. I never would have chosen this week if I thought this could happen.

I can only hope that teachers don't cover a lot of new material since so many students will be absent. I suddenly wish my kids were back in 2nd grade.

While I can understand the concern and I know every school is different, if these days were going to be days off for the students, they may not cover too much. Hopefully it is not something that will really set them back.

When I was younger, I missed two weeks of class a couple of years to go to Disney World. I always tried to do as much as I could before leaving or dealt with it once we got back and although sometimes tough, I was able to manage. I know every situation may be different, I just hope it serves as encouragement

Same thing for my kids. They are missing 4 days. I know that many families plan vacation at this time. I'm sure there will be many students absent.

So far we haven't heard from our school so I'm guessing the kids are still off. I would think the classes would be half empty for the schools that are having them go now. Even some teachers must be missing? I know a few who use those days for vacation as well. My DD is only in 3rd but it would still be a lot to miss that many days.
