November 26, 2005/ 7 day Eastern Magic

:earsgirl: I'm so confused. My husband found this site last night. We had no idea it was here. This is our first cruise as a family (two boys 10 and 6 and on girl 7). We can tell you pretty much anything about disney world and what to do and how to save becouse we go so often but the more I read about the cruise I just feel very overwhelmed. Please someone help. If there is something I should know, and I am a little nervous about my 10 year old being by himself in the kid area. He is very friendly and makes friends easy, but I am still worried about him. If anyone has tips or would like to tell me what it is I have been reading about everyone meeting and if we are to late to get in on that. thanks so much. I would just feel better if I didn't feel like I was going into this blind folded and our kids are going to want us to know what when how and where. thanks!!!!! :confused3
We are from Michigan!!!

bahogg - I am assuming you are on this cruise. If you are, then welcome.

Feel free to ask any questions on this thread and people will reply to you. Also, if you do not feel like you got your questions answered here, then post in the Main Disney Thread.

Yes we are on this cruise. And we are very interested in meeting people and taking that awkward edge off before we get there. We will be at Disney the week of thanksgiving also, so if anyone else is maybe we could go ahead and meet sometime. Also we have a 10 year old ds that we would love to have meet a friend. Thanks for welcoming us I do appreciate it. I have a feeling this is going to be a friendly cruise. :earsgirl:

My suggestion is to get your hands on a copy of "Passporter's Field Guide to DCL". We got our first copy at Barnes & Noble, but you can order it here:
http://www.passporter.com/dcl/guidebook3e.htm
It is a great guide and includes more things than you could ever dream of. All that info can be found hear on the boards too, but I like having in in print! :rolleyes1

Hey everyone! I need to check this thread more often. Alot of activity since it is only a few weeks away!

First, I love the idea of 5 magnets from where we are from...I was getting a little nervous about getting so many things, but I think 5 is a great number! It is better than bringing potatoes (Idaho)! That wouldn't be too fun, and would weigh alot! LOL

I am going to get those green mickey heads if it kills me...I keep forgetting.

I was wondering how formal do people get on formal night?? I am wondering if people that are too fancy are out of place?? I have been stressing over this too much....

EDDJMOM, I have a DS that is 12...He would love to email some kids before the cruise. My DDs have, but he hasn't and I think he is feeling a little left out. He is a little shy.... :teeth:
Talk to you all soon!

Michelle2 - I would not worry about how dressed up you are for Formal Night. As long as you are comfortable with what you wear, then you will not feel out place.

Michelle, I agree don't stress over the formal/semi-formal night. Do what makes you feel comfortable. Personally, I will be dressed to the nines! If nobody else is formally dressed, too bad! I want to enjoy the experience, just like dressing up for pirate night will be fun!

My DS is not shy at all. He is VERY outgoing. He would enjoy e-mailing. As an experience cruiser, he can't wait to leave us on the ship. Once he finds his crew, he will be gone the entire time. He is excited about all of the activities for his age. As I said before, he stayed out later than we did every night. I was not concerned because he was with his age group, he could not go to the Adult only areas, and he would check in on a regular basis.

My younger DS did not have as much fun. He wanted to be with his older brother. I am hoping that he will be more willing to spend time with his age group.

As for dressing up, we are not going to be very formal. The guys will wear a shirt and tie with black pants. The real reason is I am too cheap to buy the extra clothes. It is not worth the effort for us. I agree, do what makes you feel great. Plus, it requires more packing for me. I am trying to coordinate outfits. Someone wrote - bring more shirts and fewer pants. This will be my plan. Plus, I have to pack for everyone. I have to pack smarter not harder.

Well I have to get off the computer and go to church. I will be checking in later in the day.

thanks for the suggestion. I will probably go look for it at the store. I really think this is so cool, to be able to get to know people before we leave. I really like the magnet idea to, but I was thinking about making them myself. I am a free lance photographer and today I was taking pictures of kids football teams when it hit my head, it would be really neat to try to take pictures of things from michigan that I have taken the things that stand for michigan and make the magnets myself. I think I'm gonna try, doesn't mean I can do it but we'll see. Anymore suggestions will be accepted with great thanks.

For the magnet part of it, go to wal-mart and buy magentic tape. One side is sticky, the other side is magnetic. That is what we are going to use for our sign on the Door.

Hi all, my internet was down, so I was unable to check-in. My CC was charged for the upgrade, but I don't have a room number yet. I am sooooo excited.

Going to home depot today.

Bahogg, if you PM me with your email, I can send you an excel spreadsheet I created. It has a calendar to help you plan, as well as recommendations I have gleaned from the board for packing and a "tips" spreadsheet. I also agree with the passporter, it helped to calm my nerves.

JJBescher created a list of all of us including ages. I went there and PMed a few people to see if anyone would mind if a 6 yr old corresponded with my daughter. She is so excited.

The main cruise board has a lot of good ideas, started with the stuck tip area.

Regarding Formal night: I bought DD6 a pagent dress for under $50, plus gloves and nicer (but inexpensive) jewlery. I bought a formal gown and DH is going to tux it. In AZ we don't get much of a chance to dress up, they even wear shorts to the theatre, so I really want to take advantage of the opportunity. I understand a lot of people don't feel comfortable, and I can appreciate that also. BE COMFORTABLE so you can be confident.

Is anyone else going to order from Shirley at The Perfect Gift? I have the list for the baskets, and am just waiting for the 2-3 week mark to send my order in.

I am think I am going to order something from Shirley. Since we are flying in that day and we are taking Disney transportation, we will not have time to stop and pick some stuff up at the store. Hopefully Shirley will be able to help me out with some of it.

I got your room number. I will update the list.

halestrm - can you send me SHirely's website address? I remember going to it, but didn't bookmark it. I think I'm going to send the boys sand toys since I forgot to buy them at the end of the season.

Congrats on the upgrade! You deserve it.

Have a terrific day!

If I PM you my email address, could you email me the spreadsheet as well? This is our first cruise, and could use a lot of help at this point. I'm starting to stress out! :headache:

No problem. Anyone who wants a copy, just PM me with the email address and I will send it out. Remember, there will be things you won't need, just delete them.

Same with the extra Mickey's, if you need some PM me with the qty, name and address and I will get them out.

Chow!

halestrm, congrats on the upgrade, you are sooo lucky!!! I will check on board, but since our locations are exactly what we want (right across the hall from each other), then I doubt we will want to move anywhere. I am not counting on anything for us. :teeth: That cat 3 sure sounds fun!!

Thanks for the replies about formal night. I was getting pretty stressed about it....and packing, and everything else. I will say that I am all done with pirate night attire. We are not dressing in costumes, but will match and have pirate accessories! I am so excited!

I was telling DH that although I am so excited for our cruise that we have been planning for 2 years (cannot believe it is a month away!!!), I am afraid for it to come, because then it will be over with :(

Is everyone getting matching attire for boarding day??? I was thinking about making us t shirts or something, but not sure....
