November 2023 Car Rental Thread

Hey! I used to use auto slash but have zero desire to stand in those inside lines at MCO. Looking for any codes for car rentals at MCO for November. Not Dollar because of their counter shenanigans. Thanks!

using priceline (carental savers), it’s easy to link your hertz rewards # to the reservation. I’ve earned points on all my rentals thru them and able to walk to garage & pick my vehicle unless I’ve specifically reserved an SUV or minivan. not sure at what “level” that starts, at least with their Gold.

I’m not happy with the nearly $300 a week I’ve been seeing for the last two months. nope:bitelip:not at all

Looking for insight as which cars are in which categories especially Avis and Budget.
They list only eg of Nissan Versa or Kia Soul in the Compact Car
and eg of Toyota Corolla in the Intermediate Car.

Does anyone know which other cars are part of Budgets (& Avis’) inventory in Orlando (picking up at MainGate Wyndham, dropping off at MCO)?

Trying to figure out if my sister’s insurance will extend to Intermediate Car, but all she can find out from her Car insurance co is ”up to $29k usd car value”.

tia!

I don't know of a current full list of their fleet but the inventory of one will pretty much be the same as the other since they are the same company. Here is a video walkthrough of the Budget/Avis area that can give you an idea of what Avis/Budget generally stocks -

In terms of coverage, with $29k you'll likely be okay up to an intermediate/midsize but likely nothing higher. However, it is generally a good idea to be safer than sorry so if you have any worries about coverage, either make sure you are okay before renting or look to get secondary coverage as well. I would check your credit cards as one of them might have secondary coverage, which will kick in after your primary coverage (for most people this is your personal car insurance policy but some credit cards do offer primary coverage). Then there are always the options from the rental companies but that is generally the most expensive way to go. I think there are some third party coverage companies, like Allianz, that will provide coverage as well and it's generally cheaper than the car companies but still more than a "free" option like your personal insurance company or credit card.

Thank y'all for the car savers tip! I have a Hertz reservation for $217 for 5 nights. It's an electric vehicle which I am not crazy about but am willing to give it a try. It shows up in my Hertz profile so I am optimistic I'll be able to go to the garage! THANK YOU!

They are tempting. I’m just nervous about messing up the actual chargiNg of it/not being able to Find one open

No idea how long they hold a charge sitting in
Parking lot

Trying to find out how that works when parking a car for 5+ days at cruise port garages :confused3 before I commit

A couple things I would recommend - if you are renting a specific model, look up a video or written guide on it if this is your first EV. Or even just watch something about basic EV stuff as that'll get you off on the right foot.

Secondly, make sure to examine where your charging options are in case you need them. But on that note, Hertz has a couple “no worry recharge" things where it is $25 or $35 if you return the car with less than 70% but more than 10%. Sometimes it's easier, and even cheaper, to just let Hertz worry about recharging the EV for you.

Tolls- I always get and E-pass sticker so I have it when I go. Are you saying it will work if I hold it up instead of sticking it to windshield? I would love to be able to reuse it. I also got in a situation one time where they made me switch rentals at the gate and I had already put the sticker on the windshield so I had to pay by plate. I also left it in car one time and had to pay $15 in tolls for someone else. (E-PASS refused to remove it)
We taped over the sticky side of ours and have reused it several times now. We just take the corners to hold it on the windshield and add the rental license plate from our phone before we leave the car rental lot.

So just put in on windshield like I always do but instead of taking the back off and adhering it, you leave the back on and just tape the corners? Want to make sure I’m doing it right. Thanks for the info.

I got my Thrifty 6-day reservation down to $190 just yesterday and I leave today! It is a AAA rate so if you qualify for that, you should give it a try. Fingers crossed the line in the terminal is not really long.

Got an Intermediate SUV down to $388 for my trip now. I am pretty happy with that but hope the trend keeps going down. I would love to get an elite SUV or something really nice

via car rental savers, hertz midsized to use their gold aisle, Had my 2 week rental starting next Saturday drop to $547 yesterday.

today it’s down to $501 :)

the EV possibility is currently $407, canceled it. Not worth the worry for me to save $100 on that.

Checked again just now. New rate for confirmed mid sized SUV is $436.11.

still have 5 more days to go :)

shocking, my rate dropped to $350.

Less than what I paid for a 3 day rental over Columbus Day :)

keep on checking

We took the back off and used a thin scotch tape to cover the sticky part. It was years ago, so not sure it was actually necessary to remove the back and replace with the tape. When we want to use it, we attach to windshield using small pieces of tape on each corner with the back (what would have been the side you’d stick to the windshield) against the windshield.
