November 2020 Sailing... How confident are you in traveling without a covid19 vaccine in place?

So... without a covid19 vaccine available, how confident are you guys that it’s safe to travel again/at all the rest of the year and even up to next year in a cruise ship? 😅 We managed to get “cancel for any reason” travel insurance back in Feb but even with that, you only get 70% back... I heard in other DCL groups that it’s best to hold off paying in full since some who did are having a hard time trying to reach Disney to get their money back... thoughts in general? What’s your plan B, if any? Just curious ✌🏼 Thanks!

We were on one of the cancelled Alaska cruises.

Went for a full refund.

Contemplating alternate Plan B to see if we can swing a summer vacation.

A 5 day white water rafting trip is at the top of the list. If anything is going to happen this summer, something completely outdoors in a small group is most likely.

Realistically, its not how confident YOU are about germs. Its what your options are going to be.

Personally, I don't feel safe about traveling on a ship, plane, etc. until ~March 2021. I'm not in an "at risk" group, but that's just my personal opinion. I am willing to wait it out. All that said, I have my eyes on an August 2021 cruise. Hopefully by then things will be safer.

Edit: I had a grammatical error, and I am a self-proclaimed grammar nerd lol

I would not be comfortable being in such close quarters with so many people and no vaccine. Also remember that if one person is diagnosed with COVID-19 while you are on your cruise, you most likely will be on the ship much longer than you planned. You might also be required to quarantine for 14 days after returning home.

All we can do is guess... I wasn't surprised when we were sent to WFH on March 12th but now it seems we'll be doing so until at least the end of May. I would never have guessed... nor the ban on cruising for so long, the other cancelled land tours that are happening, the borders closing... its all really unprecedented.

I would hope travel in some way is back on the table by November but I have no plan B personally for our trip in October (WDW). If its unsafe to travel then it is unsafe to travel and we'll just stay home and cross our fingers for our next trip May 2021 (river cruise). We can always plan something more last minute if things clear up earlier without risking nerves and deposit money.

That’s a good point... we really just have to wait and see what options we have.

I’m not in an at risk group either and bought travel insurance already with cancel for any reason... but I’m still on the fence if it’s still worth it or just cancel now... thanks for your honest opinion and let’s pray things will get better soon.

I worry about that too... my Nov DCL cruise group does not seem to be worried at all since it’s still several months away that’s why I wondered if I’m the only one who’s concerned... at least out loud 😅

That’s true... guess and just hope for the best... 👍🏼 But speaking of deposit money, cancel now and get 100% refunded or ride it out close to PIF date and risk getting refunded in a timely manner? Does that make sense? 😅

So, I have until beginning of June for PIF to decide on Sept DCL double dip CC. Even if it goes, doubtful we’ll be on it. We’re thinking if we do anything this year, it’s likely a road trip of some kind! Likely a rental on the beach. Regardless, we’ll be driving.

I'd ride it out... assuming its not a hardship or could be put to better use of course! If I started hearing serious rumors of companies starting to dissolve THEN I'd jump the gun.

hmmm thanks for chiming in. But you’ll still wait until end of May to cancel or canceling very soon just in case there’s still a glimmer of hope? 😅 Lol

ok. Thanks for your input 👍🏼

Vaccines could take a long time, if ever, to create. However, testing and treatment protocols should be improved by November. I do wonder what procedures Disney will put in place and how much that will take away from the experience. On vacation I would want to forget about this virus, but if we have to wear masks or they get rid of buffets, or other self service, or force social distancing that increases lines, then I'm not sure I would want to go.

I suppose it depends on how urgently the money is needed and what kind of deal I got on the cruise in the first place. If the money is needed then just go ahead and free it up now (well start the process to free it up). If you can ride it out and you booked opening day or got opening day prices, then ride it out and make the decision closer to PIF. If you didnt get a great deal and paid significantly more than opening day you may wish to cancel now and reshop the cruise closer to embarkation day.

But I am partial to a good road trip that ends at a beach. Ever tried the Keys?

that’s a really good point! I’ll probably be ok wearing a mask... doubt it if my kids would 😅

But it’s a Disney cruise, of course you’d want to make it work lol... *sigh* thanks for the input, though - definitely something to consider if I’d want a vacation like that 🤔

A vaccine is not necessary IMHO to resume cruising. However, there needs to be some sort of medical treatment that prevents the intensive care units from being overwhelmed. I think we'll have that eventually, but November is a pretty optimistic target.

I rebooked for next spring break, and we'll go up to our PIF date to give our doctors and scientists time to solve this. I'm not optimistic, but I'm hopeful.

If they are sailing, I'm going. I've got a November cruise planned, and am planning on going. Of course, I also have a June vacation planned to Europe and I am planning on going there too... just need the airplanes to keep flying.
