Flying from CA. First trip to WDW, obsessive DL planner vet :)

November 15th to 25th-26th

Monday November 11th is Veterans Day. First option is to fly out that Friday the 15th. Shooting for 8 full days in parks 2/2/2/2. if we do the week before, i realize that we would be running into Thanksgiving crowds starting on Friday the 22nd. We've been to DL over the peak Spring Break so I think we can handle it. Would probably avoid going back on the Sun/Mon before Thanksgiving, hitting the Tue for a travel day. Buys us a few extra days in park or visiting resorts/other stuff in area.

or

November 29th to December 7th

Would be leaving on Black Friday (no bigge for us). Still get the 2/2/2/2 in, but would lose a few extra days. Possibly fewer crowds? But smack dab in the middle of this "Pop Warner" thing I keep reading about.

Any advise is always appreciated!

We have gone to WDW the Saturday after Thanksgiving on one trip and the Saturday that the Pop Warner kids arrive at WDW on another trip. Since we didn't stay at a resort that the Pop Warner kids were at, they didn't affect our trip at all. I would not worry about them unless you are at one of their resorts.

One difference to consider when deciding to go before or after Thanksgiving is that Epcot has a lot of Christmas activities that begin after Thanksgiving. There is the Candlelight Processional and storytellers at various countries. You might want to check that out when trying to decide when to go. :)

The storytellers start the Sunday before thanksgiving now. This year the candlelight starts on thanksgiving.

Personally, if you go over thanksgiving, the crowds may be a little higher than after, but you will be able to spend more time in less crowded nights at MK since the Christmas party won’t be going on that week. Typically, when we go over thanksgiving we avoid MK on thanksgiving day. The rest isn’t that bad as the crowds will thin out starting Saturday. If you go after, you will have fewer nights to enjoy MK and the non-party days will be more crowded. Personally, I would pick going over thanksgiving. It’s not nearly as bad as some people have made it out to be.

Great input so far! When people mention going after for the holiday stuff, is that mainly for the Christmas party and Candlelight? We would try to hit both if possible. That might be a deciding factor.

Yes I was referring to MVMCP which is not held during Thanksgiving Week. Also to ensure all of the resorts are decorated. Up until last year the storytellers and Candlelight Processional did not begin until Black Friday but now the storytellers begin the Sunday before and this year the CP starts on Thanksgiving.

Currently having the same debate! November is the only month we can go in 2019 and not sure if we prefer vaca then thanksgiving at home, or thanksgiving at home then vaca. Not sure crowds make a ton of difference with the holiday in the mix. Good luck!
