November 2014 Car Rentals

What search engine do y'all use? I generally use Costco but don't want to overlook other options. We are limited to companies that I can return the vehicle to in or very near Wdw.

There is also "car rental savers" that was mentioned a while back. There are a ton of codes but there are also some search engine elements.

Thrifty using AAA code is $167 for 8 days (11/7-11/15) for a Wild Card. Dollar came in at $169 using the AAA code. That's a drop of about $40 in the last week and only 1-2 bucks more than the Firefly rental. I do have a bit of fear of the unknown with them!

Is too soon to reserve a car for Nov? All the coupon codes I see expire in September. I did get a quote from Budget for a SU- Ford Edge or similar for pick up at the Palace Hotel on Nov. 16 (Sunday) & dropping off on the 20th (Thursday)for $309. From what I understand coupons are not valid on SUV's , also need a Saturday puck up to save.

I am a member of AAA but cannot locate the code, can you please let me know what it is.

The code depends on which is your local AAA but the list of them is available at AAA/CAA info

There is a message on the reservation that you will need to show AAA card to get discount so don't be like me and bring the expired one from the previous year like I did at a museum in Montreal :)

Doing my daily check....Thrifty and Dollar went down $15 dollars with AAA codes. On a whim checked carrentalsavers.com and used the Budget Smart Book code and the $30 off option and was quoted $141 for a compact for the length of trip. That's 4-5 more Mickey bars in our bellies from the quote from yesterday!!!

Another dip with Thrifty and Dollar ($129 and $130 respectively). Add some more Mickey bars to the fund!!!

For Dollar I am using their AAA Codes (can't use another coupon with it)
Dollar AAA/CAA

Same thing for Thrifty, just a different contract code. Should be able to get the same pricing through the AAA website, I just go to the individual sites are part of my routine. Thrifty AAA/CAA

Thanks for the head's up. I was able to drop $70 off of my December reservation with the AAA discount at Thrifty.

Was able to get a good rate through Dollar. Does anyone know what the difference between standard and full size with Dollar? Is it like Alamo, where there is no standard, so you get a full size?

Thanks for this - you just saved us a bunch!

Yay! So glad they are working for other people to. They don't advertise much that they have them with the other companies just Hertz which is always super high I find! Keep checking on them. Mine went down another 3 bucks this am :) the more $$ I keep in my budget away from that line item the more goes into spending money for me!!

I have only rented from Dollar onsite at Buena Vista Palace. We got a full size for the standard rate there but they have limited inventory so not sure at MCO.

UGH .. still no add'l discounts on Dollar 11/22-12/6 (Wyndam@LBV - RSW). I managed to secure a premium car at 178/week ($416 total).:thumbsup2

It says a Maxima or similar and I am not sure if this is going to work for my family.56 :crowded:

Myself, DW, DS14, DS2 and DD<1 ... 2 car seats and 3 adults plus about 3-4 suitcases. It's funny it says that the Altima or similar would actually hold more. :confused3

But I dare not try to modify my reservation as the pricing now is double. :scared1:

Any suggestions? The good thing is that we are really only needing to have everyone and everything in the car for the ride from WDW down to the gulf coast. After that we'll be fine as my folks have an SUV and we can split up the crew.

I always keep my previous reservation until I find a better one and book it and THEN cancel like you are doing for the same reason. I think since Thanksgiving falls in your trip you are going to get higher rates. Where are you staying onsite? The Car Care Center and Dolphin have Alamo and National but there is a Budget and Avis as well off of downtown (I think one is in the Hilton and the other in the Holiday Inn). At least it gives you more options to search.

Altimas are decently roomy but never tried putting 2 baby seats and a teenager in the back :crazy2:

My Dollar rental has gone down to $232 total for a standard 11/9 - 11/23 using the AAA code. It's dropped $85 since I last checked.

That's great!! I keep having hopes of coming in at a final amount of $100 but considering when I started looking in May I was getting $250 I am not going to be upset with $126. Paying a lot for a rental KILLS me because it is so fluid. We only have the 2 of us and 2 suitcases so compact is more than enough so I am cool with the wildcard giving me larger....or not

Got a new rate from dollar for standard rental for Nov 8-20. Was $207 yesterday, now $201 today. Guess I will have to check everyday from here out. Still wanting to know about the standard vs. full size at MCO.
