Hi all! After 5ish years of reading the DIS, I have finally decided to post. Currently we are planning our first Christmastime visit to WDW. We have reservations for the week after Thanksgiving (November 24-December 1) at POR. We are semi-flexible with our dates though and could change them based on any discounts that come available. We are really hoping for free dining. I have read that the crowds are ok the week after Thanksgiving, but how are they in particular the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend as that would be our first park day?

:welcome: we are going to be at POR at the same time!!! As for the Sunday after Thanksgiving being your first park day, the crowd numbers are still high but start to die down(from what I read on TP) We are arriving that day and our first park day will be Monday. Im waiting for discounts too......hopefully FD!:woohoo:

Welcome!! How great that we got your first post!!
We always go this time of year. (I know, the rest of you are sick of hearing this. :rotfl:) Last year we actually went to the MK after we arrived. So it was late saturday afternoon. The crowd was not bad at all. Yes, there were areas that seemed "bottlenecked". And there were some waits. But over all I do not remember it being bad at all. And Sunday was actually very managable. :thumbsup2 By the way, we will be there the exact same time staying at the WL. :goodvibes

Yeah....Bring on the free dining!!

We are planning to go in Nov. also. I thought about the 7-13th, but starting to question my dates now.

Why are you questioning your time frame? Can we help with anything?

I just pre-ordered the 2012 re-fill package for my PassPorter binder!!
I will be getting the 2012 Unofficial Guide to Disney tomorrow. I love getting these travel books. Makes the trip feel closer. :cloud9:

Welcome! Why are you questioning your dates? We are going November 8th (arriving late that Thursday night hopefully) and staying until Saturday, November 17th, leaving that afternoon. It should be a great time!

The weekend of the 10-11th will be busy, but the rest of your days shouldn't be bad. You can still make it work if you probably follow these rules:
*avoid DTD on 9th, 10th and 11th since it is Festival of the Masters (unless you purposely want to see that!)
*avoid MK on the 10th, crowd levels are going to be bad per touringplans etc. that day- 9 to 10 type levels, maybe do water park, pool time, AK or something else that day. We might do a tour that am and leave, that way, even if at MK, we will be in a group tour not really fighting crowds/lines. We plan to do dinner at Jiko that night and explore AKL and take it easy that night- maybe swim.
*Avoid Epcot that weekend, unless you plan to hit the F&W festival (closing weekend). If you do plan to hit it, try the day time instead of evening. I also hear that Saturday is more crowded than Sunday sometimes.
*The wine and dine marathon will probably be Sat night, but after hours most likely at Epcot.

Our plans to try and avoid all of that, that weekend include:
Friday 11/9- Epcot for RD, hit F&W early, leave by 2pm, DHS at night
Saturday 11/10- CP breakfast before park opening, hit rides early, do Family Magic Tour (at 10am?), leave MK after, spend afternoon swimming, resort hopping, dinner at JIKO
Sunday 11/11- Epcot for RD, hit F&W early, leave by 2pm, MK that night for a few hours, dinner at Ohana late

as of Monday, 11/12, the crowds thin out tremendously, talking 3s-5s for crow levels.

WELCOME!!!! I've been on the boards since 1999 when they started, but I lurked for many years too before deciding to participate. So glad you did! Crowds are usually good the week after, it is just that week of Thanksgiving (including that weekend of 24-25th) that could be bad. After the 25th, you should be golden! I would choose your park carefully for that Sunday, as folks will still be lingering and the crowds could be bad. Definitely check the crowd calendars, or just go in knowing you will fight big crowds and plan to do the less popular attractions, knowing you will have the rest of the week to tackle all the good stuff. Maybe plan a nice lunch or dinner at a resort restaurant?

Why are you questioning your time frame? Can we help with anything?

Uh-oh! I've been trying to decide if I should just stick with the spiral-bound this year, or go for the binder. Your post makes me think I should go for the binder? I love getting the different books, too, and I've practically chomping at the bit for the 2012 Passporter!!!!

I'd never really looked at Passporter before, but I sure like the look of that binder! I usually put my own planning book together, but I would love to fill in all of those sections!

I usually get the Unofficial Guide, but the last year or so I didn't feel like there was much updating between editions. There should be a lot of changes with the Fantasyland expansion, but there's still so much that doesn't change... I'm undecided. Maybe I'll switch to Passporter this year and then I can read it cover to cover!

Mine came in the mail yesterday...I had just saved five offers on the WDW site on Saturday...but like I said only the 10% PIN....will wait for better PIN...I usually get 3-4 per year or hopefully they will offer Free Dining in November...*fingers crossed*:)

Christmas is just magical. WE've done two early December trips and loved it. The decor is amazing (although they've done less each year it seems). We love all the trees. MVMCP is fun, snow on main street is amazing! The Osborne Lights are not to be missed. We loved the Candlelight Processional too. I have some Dec trip reports in my signature block below if you want to see pics or read.

love it! I say get both, and it appears you did! I love both books. I sort of stopped buying them the last year or two though, i do so much research/reading online, that I feel like the books are just saying what I've already read online. :rotfl: I think that is a sign I should step away from the computer! I do keep my own binder/planner though.

the PINS are randomly sent by WDW by mail or email. Always take what a CM on the phone says with a grain of salt, communication/updates/news is sometimes bad through the organization (I know, i worked there!) and most CMs on the phone are located remotely and don't always have the right/accurate info. We got a PIN once almost a year out.
