What is everyone else doing to save money?

Any cash that ends up in the laundry becomes WDW money!!!

I buy gift cards for our local grocery store through my son's school scrip program all year long so it doesn't seem like a big hit. Then I use them to purchase WDW gift cards at the grocery store. I get $ off tuition with the scrip and fuelperks with the WDW gift cards! If I just bought the WDW gift cards through the scrip program, I would get 3% less off tuition and no fuelperks.

I thought about doing that, but the problem is that it's a character breakfast and it's the only one that take ADR's for breakfast. The characters that they have my youngest DS hates, and I could see him having a little meltdown over them being there. (My youngest is the one with mild ASD.)

We weren't going to do it again, but then I found out Jake is there now so it's a MUST for DS. He's going to flip - in a good way!!

I swear, I think one of the reasons the CMs are so nice to me, is they can see how many changes I've made and they're afraid I'm crazy. :lmao:

:rotfl2: Seriously, I laughed out loud at that one. I have made any official changes... just ones in my head. Yep, I'm crazy too! :rolleyes1

Well not unless my fil's foot starts feeling better. She won't even bring it up to him, until he's feeling better. I swear, I was so happy when we got the dates "finalized". Then my DH and mil took a blow to my Mickey baloon. It's a good thing the DSs don't know about this trip.

I am sending pixie dust and prayers your way that everything will work out. :goodvibes

I thought I would share this here, since I don't know if y'all are reading the thread on the DIS about Be Our Guest.

The arcticle leads me to believe that it will be open, along with Phase 1 of the expansion summer of 2012.

http://d23.disney.go.com/news/2011/12/zooming-into-2012/

I've been following it too. I thought the same thing.

If we chit chatted enough for 100 pages before the new year......Iwonder how many we will have by the time we REALLY start to plan lol!!!

I want to see pics of journals/binders/notebooks-whatever you plan in!

I want to see pics too! I put a sheet with my itinerary in the binder, but the rest of mine is meal invitations, tip envelopes, scavenger hunt info, coupons for the kids, etc. I have everything in page protectors divided by the day we need them. My binder is top secret. The kids are not allowed to go near it. Last year DD convinced herself that Tinkerbell was the one leaving all the meal invitations in our room because she was the only one small enough to sneak in!

I'll take pics once I complete them.

Good morning ya'll. :goodvibes

I can't seem to wrap my mind multiquoting this morning. :rotfl2:

Good evening! I had trouble yesterday. It took me forever to get it straight.

I have off today and we are supposed to be painting the basement so I can do daycare there again. Its taken so long to get this finished but a few weeks ago we had another leak:headache: a small one but why pain the basement just to fix it again? UGH! Anyway off to do :laundy: and housework....I will hop back on later because now I wanna go on the Tuesday night to MVMCP....and plan 2x in each park! I really want the PH. Maybe if we get FD we can do it :cloud9:

Hope you get your basement fixed so you can start up daycare again.

Has there been any discounts offered yet for Nov 2012??

I've been so busy with work these past 6 months, I never have time to check out the DIS like I used to. I used to be so informed with every little change Disney made, now I feel like a newbie all over again :upsidedow

Not to mention, I have no clue what is going on with the Fantasyland expansion. Any kind souls care to enlighten me on what/if anything we should expect to see done by Nov 2012?

Thanks everyone

No discounts yet.

Wow, I've had a little disvacation with the holidays & you all have been chatting nonstop! :goodvibes

The last two weeks were slow, but it's picked up this week.

Wow, that is huge! 2010 was the first time I put our info into my phone calendar. I still took my laminated paper copy (4x8) of the details. This year, I think it all goes on our phones!

Last year I put all of our ADRs on our phone with an alarm 90 minutes before the ressie, and again 1 hour before... just so I wouldn't get side tracked. I'm sure next year I'll download my itinerary also, but I like having a paper copy too.

I paid the first part of our DVC rental the other day!!!

:yay: :yay:

Oh! I forgot about the saving money question. I have cute story about that. I never carry cash, but all of DH's changes goes into a Disney jar at the end of the day. About a month or so ago, DH came home and DS was trying to climb up him to get a hug. DS felt something in DH's pocket so he took it out. It was a $5 bill. DS was so excited so I told him he could put it in our Disney jar. Now every time DH walks in the door both the kids clean out his pockets. Our Disney jar is filling up quickly now!!

Other than that, I have $100 of every paycheck go into a separate savings account marked for Disney. It is automatic and at a separate financial institution than the one I use for our bills and every day spending so I never see it. I have access to it in case of an emergency, but so far so good. I started it several months ago, and surprisingly I haven't missed the extra money.

So... what's everyone doing for NYE? :confused3

DH's work holiday party is NYE, but we aren't going to it. Who has a work party on NYE? :confused3 We will do like we always do... stay home, watch TV or movies, play games, and have appetizer/snack type food. The kids will get to stay up as late as they want. I think DH bought some sparklers for them to do. :sad2: I'm sure all of our neighbors will be popping fireworks (yes, they are legal here), :sad2: but my kids only like Disney fireworks!! I mean really - how can a bottle rocket, tank or roman candle compare to Disney?? :rotfl2: OH! and I'll be watching for Disney's big announcement!

Anyone have any NY resolutions?

I'm planning to lose weight once and for all! I've been pooh sized for wayyyy to long, and it's time I get off my derriere and do something about it. I joined myfitnesspal.com earlier this week. I love their website and phone app. The phone app has a scanner so you can scan bar codes on food packages, and it has all the nutritional information listed!

I really, really, really want to participate and complete the 2013 Disney Princess half marathon. :lovestruc In order to do that I have to exercise, eat healthy, and train.

My other resolution is to scan all of my parents pictures, slides, old paper clippings they want to keep and put it all on CDs for them. I'm going to do the same for my Granny's stuff. She passed away last year, but I want to preserve all of her old stuff. Then I'm going to do the same for all of our old pictures and negatives.

We are painting the basement tomorrow so no partying for us lol :goodvibes cant have a hangover when trying to paint!

I have a few resolutions:
~Organize my house
~start exercising again
~coupon!
~save money for Disney
~Budget better
~start back up scrapbooking my first disney trip  :headache: wayyyyy behind because of the basement junk
~organize my pictures by year/event

I saw this book on another thread - The Disney World Queue Line Scavenger Hunt: The Game You Play While Waiting In Line. I took a quick look on Amazon. Looks great! Does anyone have it or the Kindle version?

I downloaded a sample to my phone's Kindle reader (just got yesterday!!! :rotfl:). It doesn't look like you can mark the person's/team's score on the Kindle reader. Does anyone know if that would be possible? I was excited about one less thing to carry, but if I can't do the score on my phone, I might have to buy the book.

Thanks!

So... what's everyone doing for NYE? :confused3

We'll be at home. Maybe drinking a little white wine, or something like that. I am sure we will be playing SW:tOR.

Sounds like some great resolutions. I try to make mine something I'm almost 100% sure to do. My big one for is to make sure my rear doesn't get any bigger. It would be better for it to get smaller, but I don't want to put the pressure on myslef by putting weight loss as the goal. This way as long as my rear stays the same size, I did it. If I lose weight WOOO HOOO party time!! I do want to get in better shape, though so that I don't die of a heart attack from walking around in the park on our trip.

Then I want to be more focused on school. Actually read the material I'm supposed to and not wait until the last minute to get everything done.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I'm sure it will work out. I'm more mellow about it today. I'm thinking we might just go ahead and move the trip before my mil talks to the fil. I know I can't move it yet b/c I don't think the 2013 packages are out yet. This will give me more time to save money and there will be no drama from my mil talking to my fil. I can see there being some fireworks over it. My DH says to just keep the trip where it is, if that is where I want it. If they schedule him calls, they will have to be the ones to cancel them when he is in WDW with us. I'm glad he's ready to stand beside me on this matter, but I'm just not sure if it's a battle that I want to fight. Besides, if I do move it, we will be there on my birthday. Plus it's not like we would be moving the trip very far. It would only be 42 days. Plus I can double up on classes in the first part of the semester and not have any classes again for Christmas, the trip, or my bday. I'm not going to decide anything right now. I am going to wait and ask Amy what her and her family think of the crowds the week that we have planned to go vs the week in January we could move it to. I don't know, just too much to think of on such a full tummy. We ate lunch today at Red Lobster and I am super stuffed, and I didn't even eat all of my food. Thank goodness for teenage boys that will gladly help me eat what I can't.

Painting doesn't sound much fun, but I know you'll be happy to get your basement back!

Those sound like great resolutions! I really want to get organized this year too, but I'm not making it a resolution. My main resolution is to take care of myself, and get healthy. I figure the rest will work itself out.

I have not heard of this, but I will definitely be checking it out!! I doubt you can mark the points a Kindle reader, but like you, I really don't want to carry anything else with me. What about downloading it to your Kindle and just bringing a piece of paper and pencil that you can slip in your pocket or something?

We'll be at home. Maybe drinking a little white wine, or something like that. I am sure we will be playing SW:tOR.

I'm glad you are feeling better about things today. You have plenty of time to think about things and make a decision. Whatever happens, it's great your DH is going to stand by you. :goodvibes

Have a Happy New Year to all!!

Painting doesn't sound much fun, but I know you'll be happy to get your basement back!

The painting part sounds like the most fun part to me. I love to paint!!! One time I painted the DS's room while they were in the living room. I shut the door to their room and didn't want to open the window. It was chilly outside and I didn't want people watching me. I was so loopy, by the time my DH got home that I had painted all of their walls, the back of the door to their room and the door to their closet, the ceiling, and was started on the floor (which was carpet). It was a pretty dark purple, so it looked like a cave.

I'm glad you are feeling better about things today. You have plenty of time to think about things and make a decision. Whatever happens, it's great your DH is going to stand by you. :goodvibes

Have a Happy New Year to all!!

More defeated than anything. I just don't want a bunch of drama and yelling over something that should be happy. We haven't been to WDW since October 2006 and I don't want our return to be scared with unhappiness. I hate waiting the additional 42 days, but it is 42 more days of savings and I can be there on my birthday.

It's official! I just put my deposit down on Nov 30-Dec9th at POFQ! Thought I'd start the year out with a good Disney vibe :) I may end up changing my reservation a time or two but it's a starting point (might end up starting at POFQ, then head up to Ocala for a day or two and come back to a different resort)

oh i will :thumbsup2

Atleast now we can say we are going to Disney THIS year     :cloud9: :cloud9: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo::dance3:

Well, it's looking more and more like we won't be. I'm sure that as soon as I tell my DH about it being cheaper, he will want to go in January. I just keep telling myself, "dates don't matter as long as we go to WDW" over and over today.

I looked on Amazon last night. I put the book on my wish list. I've been trying to decide on a tablet, and will upload it to my tablet once I purchase it. Thanks for posting about it. I looks like a great book. :thumbsup2

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! party:

Off to paint! I actually do like it :goodvibes

I do too, but I'm horrible at it. Last year DH built some built-ins in our living room, and I felt bad that he was working so hard so I offered to paint them. He ended up having to strip them, and re-paint them. :confused3 Since then he's decided it's easier if he just paints it himself the first time around!

Atleast now we can say we are going to Disney THIS year   :cloud9: :cloud9: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo::dance3:

Awww... that stinks. :sad2: I know you must be disappointed, but I know you'll still have fun planning your trip.

I have the Kindle app on my iPhone. Other than downloading it, I haven't touched it. I wonder if I can find that one the Kindle app. We thought about getting either a Kindle or a Nook, but I'm waiting to see if my school puts their ebooks on one of them. Right now the books can only be put on the iPhone or iPad. I just could never get the ebooks to work on my iPhone.

Awww... that stinks. :sad2: I know you must be disappointed, but I know you'll still have fun planning your trip.

Yes, because it means not getting to see the Christmas decorations, but then I could be there on my birthday. I talked to my DH about it today and he agrees that it is going to cause a lot of conflict. He is still willing to back me if I want, but he knows it will happen if I want those dates. I just think I'm at an age where I don't want that much conflict over a vacation. Even if we do change, I'll still be around this thread. Y'all are great to bounce ideas off of.

I'm so excited that I get to join the party! I just booked our November 2012 trip today. We'll be staying from November 20th through the 30th.

We're booked at the Dolphin Resort for now. I'd like to switch to a Magic Kingdom area resort for the last (non-holiday rate) part of the trip if I can snag a good discount.

Because discounts are so hard to find over the Holiday, I wanted to share that there's an "Allears 10" rate available right now at the Dolphin, and it covers Thanksgiving. If you're open to staying in a non-Disney resort, there are really good Thanksgiving rates available!

Oh - and the Allears rate isn't available online - you have to call.

I can't tell you how happy I am to have a trip to plan!

Just think of all the birthday things you'll be able to do!! The rule in our house is that on your birthday, you get to decide where we eat, go, etc... Just imagine if that were your rule & you were in WDW! :woohoo: Never too late for a new house rule :thumbsup2

Luggage question - I posted this on the budget board earlier, but I thought I'd ask you as well.

We lost 2 of our big suitcases to old age & damage on our last trip. I need to replace at least one of them.

1. Spinners? big is 29-30"
2. hard sided?
3. good prices anywhere?

Happy New Year & thanks!
