November 2011 Check In

I am mostly a lurker here, but love all the great info! My wife and I will be at the GCH Nov 19th - 24th. This will be our first stay at the Grand and she has no idea. She thinks I booked the Fairfield! I can't wait to pull up and surprise her!

we will be there from November 6-9, so I think we've managed to somehow book ourselves in for a time when the Halloween decorations have come down, but the Christmas decorations are not yet up

we'll admittedly be staying at the DI&S across the street... but i have everything that can be prepacked organised in the suitcases, i have everything that can be prepaid, paid for and have only to actually pack, do the final lot of housework and then walk out the door on the day... maybe i'm too organised

In my little world there is no such thing as too organized. lol

I believe today we are at 46 days which means in 47 days I get to turn 40. Figured if I had to do it, I was gonna do it in my happy place.

I've picked up all the little things. (You know. The coffee we like. The liquid creamer. The extra memory cards. The matching t-shirts. The new shoes.) My travel book is done with the exception of the weather report and park calendar which aren't available. I've made my dining reservations and bought our tickets. We'll have both our our credit cards paid off before we leave so no worries about the in park budget. All I really have left to do is make sure my kid has food, my cats have food and get the oil changed. Oh, and pack. But that gets done as I do the weekend before. lol

i have planned this trip myself, as the travel agents wanted to gouge us for planning an o/seas trip, so it has involved a lot of planning and stressing and such... however please excuse me while i go through my checklist to ensure i haven't forgotten anything ...

passports. check. ESTA approval. check. trip insurance. check. flights booked. check. disneyland resort express bus transport. check. hotel reservations. check. park hopper tickets. check. dinner reservations. check. world of color picnics (to be ordered). park hours/entertainment schedule (not yet released) pre-packing checklist. check. emergency numbers. check. travel accessories (daybag, band-aids, kleenex, sunscreen etc) check. bills prepaid. check. credit card paid down for major spending allowance in the parks. check. check and check. yay.

hrmm... all that's left is to scrub the house from top to bottom to ensure i come back to a nice, clean house... and to actually get on the 14 hr flight

I don't think you have to worry about missing all the decorations. Pretty sure Disney is going to be working overtime to get the park all decked out with Christmas decorations immediately after the Halloween stuff comes down... which is practically overnight after the 31st. Since they will tentatively be filming the Christmas parade the first weekend of November, I think you will be pleasantly surprised with a good bit of holiday bobbles popping up everywhere.
Sounds like you have an excellent start on your trip preparations! Wish I were even remotely that organized! I will more than likely still be tossing things in our suitcases right up until we are walking out the door! We will have just missed you at the Desert Inn but who know who knows.... maybe we will bump into you in the park!

I think spending your 40th birthday in the park is perfect! I would love to have mine there some day but it is at the end of July when it is way too hot. I love me some Disneyland but even I don't think I would want to be there in the middle of summer. Give me my fall vacation and I am more than happy!
You seem to be coming right along with all your preparations very well too. Just don't forget to pack the party hats!

I have never used a travel agent myself because I always assumed they would be way more expensive so I can imagine how bad an international trip would be. Kudos to you for taking on the task of planning yourself! I bet you will do a fantastic job. Looks like you are doing great so far! You wore me out just thinking about scrubbing a house from top to bottom before you leave! 14 hours is quite a flight but I bet Disneyland will be worth it.

I'll be there Nov 17-19 with my soon-to-be hubby as part of our honeymoon and his birthday! We're heading to California for our honeymoon and since his birthday fell during that week, Disney was the obvious choice for the double celebration. It's our first time at DL and we're soooo excited!

We're staying at Hojos and since I'm in charge of the birthday planning I think I'm going to try to get tickets for the holiday tour and still need to make dinner reservations...any ideas for something unique and fun? I was planning on the Blue Bayou but found out it's going to be closed for renovations right around then.

Super excited about everything, and we'll be the ones decked out with the lovely honeymoon ears/pins/shirts

My DH very unexpectedly said we could book our trip for Thanksgiving...didn't think we would be able to go until next year, so I am VERY excited. We've never been over a holiday (went mid-Dec. last year and loved it!). We will be there Nov. 23-27, staying at the DLH...my favorite place to stay and very excited to stay in the new rooms for the first time. It'll be my DH and I, our 2 kids (DS 5 and DD 2 1/2) and my mom. I made our reservations for our Thanksgiving dinner at Goofy's Kitchen.

Can't wait!

More November visitors! I realized this week that I definitely need a Disney Fix soon so DD and I will be at the Candy Cane Inn from Nov 9 - Nov 13. We were at DLR over Veteran's Day last year too and it was packed, but that's ok, we had a great time anyway. I was hoping to get a little break on crowds as the holiday season doesn't officially start until Nov 14 this year, but I see on the calendar that some of the holiday stuff will be starting early (holiday fireworks, IASMH) so maybe not. Crowds don't really bother me though - I could just sit on a bench somewhere all day soaking up the atmosphere and be perfectly content!

Updated the list in the main post again... having to travel to the big city every day for radiation treatments, combined with going for ultrasounds, bone scans, MRI's, CAT scans....sure is taking a bite out of my free time!! things are going well though even if I'm exhausted!
