there has been talk about driving in and where to stay night before sail date..do most of you who fly in come in a day prior and if so where do you stay? how do you get there and how do you get to terminal next morning?
It seems to me there are three schools of thought:
*arrive the morning of the cruise
*arrive the day before cruising
*get in a couple of days at WDW before you cruise.
My first cruise was with family who were seasoned cruisers, and comfortable flying out of Indianapolis at 6am (THROUGH ATLANTA!!) and arriving in Orlando at 10:30. I was a nervous wreck! That's not the route for me...
For my second cruise (last December, when I took two newbies) we flew in the afternoon before we sailed, in part because we were afraid of the possibility a snowstorm could delay us. We stayed at the Hyatt inside the Orlando Int'l Airport, and it was lovely! -- pricey, but lovely! I considered that $200 overnight stay an insurance policy against missing my $3000 cruise.
DH and I are considering where to stay for "our"

cruise next year, and staying at the port seems attractive, especially now that I know a small group goes out at O-dark-thirty to greet the ship as she returns to port the morning we sail. How romantic!

Transport to and from the airport to the port will not be on the Disney bus (which is NOT free, like the Magical Express) because he gets bus-sick, but more likely by towncar or perhaps a rental car. All the rental companies will shuttle you to the ship.
Where to stay at Port? Many here recommend the Residence Inn, so I'm planning on booking it one year out from our sail date. I've read good things about the Country Inn & Suites, too. The hotels at Port all seem to offer a shuttle service to the cruise ship, but tons of people will be crowding onto those little shuttles (which is just another word for "bus"...) and I'd rather be in control of my own transportation...
Just an FYI, whatever you choose: It's really important that you literally don't miss the boat!! If you're on the Disney bus and stuck behind an accident or an open drawbridge, they will hold the ship for you. If you're in a rental car right behind the Disney bus, it's probably tough nuggets...
Welcome to the group! You'll *love* your first
Disney cruise!!
