As a die hard Cubs fan, I feel your pain. In fact, I had to check and make sure the Cardinals were not playing the Cubs last night. One strike away from the Series! I thought five outs away was bad. No Bartman to blame, just Lidge. Should have walked Pujols! Shoulda, woulda, coulda....Ron is laughing as his White Sox watch the Cards and Astros burn up starting pitchers while the Sox rest.
Bill

Hey, wait a minute Bill, you said Ron is laughing???!!! Are you talking about Lampy?? Were you two sitting together watching the game??!! :snooty: hmmmm???

Good thing the teenagers took over the ESPN on the boat, but still have about 10 tv's in the bar area.... :p

But here goes... and just bash me if I shouldn't be going here but I thought I'd try...

Does anyone have experience with tuning their own piano... yes this is WAY off subject...

but DHs b-day is just around the corner and he is convinced that he can learn to tune it himself if I just buy him a kit!!! I'm quite skeptical and the prices vary to the extreme! He is suggesting this as his b-day gift...

I don't even know where to begin with this but I thought I'd ask if anyone has any experience and/or recommendations!!

Thanks so much!

Sherri :wave2:

P.S. Just to throw some topic everyone's way: NO DOCS IN Pennsy yet.. and I'm confused with everyone looking at the FedEx trucks when I thought it was the UPS trucks doing the delivery!!

and a P.S.S. for Molli and her daughter's solo! Wow! That is exciting!!!! :flower:

Scorpio-Why not? Question...does he play? If he does, go for it. I'm sure there's some information in the kit. If it doesn't turn out well, like if the hammers and strings break, then....hire a piano tuner. :teeth: It's like a guitar! :rockband:

Hope that helps.

Bill -

I fondly recall going to Sox games in years past. But nowadays, an afternoon at the park costs over $100 for my family of six. Its such a shame that its so costly.

The last time we were at a game was Teamsters Day on Labor Day in 2004. We had hoped to go to this year's Teamsters Day again, but hubby had to work (ironic isn't it - LOL!).

Gotta love those ballpark hot dogs, eh?

Kris

Kris:
we have six too, so I know what you mean. We go to the Minor League games that are local. They still cost alot!!

Julia:
Ron (lampy) is a Southsider, so he is laughing all the way to the World Series. I am not sure if Sox fans are more excited that they are there or that the cubs aren't. :confused3
Bill

Julia - saw not one but 2 articles in the Dayton paper that Green Day was a very good concert - said "loud" but $$'s worth - aren't concerts suppose to be LOUD :teeth:

I thought docs were arriving UPS, too - my DH (Dan) said when should we get them? what - he knows about them -even???? Well, seems there is a DIS geek at work and she is quizzing him about such things - a Mr.-in-the-know....................... and

I read yesterday about that new big screen tv on deck 9 - stated "for movies and sports events" - will they be televising our Ohio State Bucks BEATING their rivals Michigan on Sat as we begin the cruise????? I know some of us OSU fans would like to at least "catch a bit of the game" :cheer2: Julia, John, Preston???

DH wants computer - I am off!!!

Gang....

Wilma is hovering exactly where we'll be going. Looks like she might stay away from GC, but is headed for the Yucatan then onto Florida, skirting the Bahamas. This hurrican has the lowest pressure ever recorded and went from cat 2 to cat 5 in less than 2 hours.

Here are some interesting links...

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/10/19/wilma/index.html

Hopefully it will stay away from land. I'm sure Willie has some first hand stories he'll share about hurricanes over a few beers of course ;).

DOOGIERUNNER-I don't even want to hear about Wilma. She is being something else.I am hoping and praying she doesn't come near FL.They are predicting it will take the same path that Hurricane Charley took last year which is Punta Gorda. We need something to come and keep it at sea.

the5J's-I will call you this weekend, and most likely it will be in the evening.I will call you at home, and if not answer I will try again. Thanks for the numbers!Talk to you soon!

I know our docs came last year by Fed Ex as we were looking for him all the time.It wouldn't surprise me if UPS brought them too.I just want my docs! :rotfl2:

Julia,

Everything you said is true! He does play, he has a multitude of guitars and even two violins... the piano is his newest venture and it seems to go out of tune more than I think it should... the actual person tuner is $80 a pop so that is why he wants to try it himself... I was concerned with the range of prices for the kits... do I go cheap in case it's a bust but then would a cheap kit be a bust to begin with!! I know in the end I'll get it, I was "hoping" someone would know something about it because I sure as heck do not!!!

Thanks!

Sherri

P.S. This CLEARLY shows my age but every time he says anything about tuning the piano all I can envision is the REO Speedwagon ALBUM cover You Can Tune a Piano But You Can't Tuna Fish!!! ;)

Sherri,

As I recall, that album cover had a picture of a fish with a tuning fork in it's mouth. I don't think the fish is included in the kits !! :rotfl: That was my favorite album in Jr. High!

Doogie,

You got it!!! If it was easier to post pics here I'd have popped one up with my last e-mail!! They were one of my favorites also and it was funny when I was at the Hard Rock at Universal they had the cover on the wall and my children were totally fascinated with it! Can't imagine why - it seemed so normal then! :rotfl2:

RE: Wilma

There is supposed to be a strong cold front moving South this week to steer her away from the Western Gulf. But it may take her straight toward our friends in Florida.
Also, the waters in the Gulf have cooled quite a bit these last few weeks, and that may weaken the storm somewhat when it enters the Gulf. (Maybe wishful thinking on my part!)

The forecasters have gotten pretty good about predicting where they will head, within about 200 mile area.

Kris....if you like the "ballpark" dogs you'll love the dogs in Diversions....they are the same.....
This sure is EARLY for doc.....usually get them about 3 weeks out, must be for us who get "upgrades" :rotfl2:

We have neighbors going to be at WDW Sunday-Thursday then sail Thurs.-Sunday......I told them it was cheap for a reason :rotfl2: ....Look out for Wilma....looks like I'll get some first hand info on how DCL communicates with it's customers.
Willie you have become quite the "hurricane" forcasting expert.....think of changing "fields"?

Did Julia mention to you that her Father was a Piano tuner?

Ron, EVERYBODY that lives on the coast becomes a hurricane expert! Ask our friends in Florida! But I have been hit dead on by hurricanes 5 times in my life. Twice as a kid in New Orleans, and three times as an adult in Texas. Not that many really, when you think of how ancient I am!
So, we really watch those babies.

Sherri

P.S.... No somehow the piano tuner Dad was left unsaid ...hmm... guess he won't be on the cruise :)

We had a "green day" here recently. It was Eagle green when the Cowboys finally beat the birds!

Will

Well, I can't wait to try a Diversions Doggie! :-)

No docs here yet :confused3

Bill -- we sometimes go to Hawkinson Field in Crestwood for a minor league game. The kids can usually get free tix through the library summer reading program - can't beat that price! My daughter got hit with a ball while standing in line waiting for a hot dog once. Wasn't hurt, but totally surprised - LOL!

Kris

Hey Kris,

Thanks for sharing... looks beautiful!

I was telling my Jacob about David and he was very excited that he likes video games! I will show him the pics tonight!

Sherri

P.S. Personally I love the cat pics!!
