Dining rotation is assigned (from what I've read on these posts) based on ages of children. APL is for parents of preschool aged children, PLA for elementary aged, and Lumineres for teens and up. We've sailed since DD was 7, and have always had PLA. It's actually one that we'd prefer (especially on the Eastern itinerary), and when we book the REAS again, it's the one we'll request. I'd recommend this one.

Also, if you and your family plan on doing any excursions, you'd probably prefer late seating. The days seem to go so fast (sadly) that it won't seem so late to dine then.

Hey all -

I'm baaack from my NCL cruise -- it was awesome!!

One night we had 20-25 foot waves -- whew! And in Grand Cayman the waves were so wild it took forever for the tenders to bring everyone back to the ships in port there. There were hundreds waiting on the dock -- from the Magic, NCL had 2 ships there, and a Carnival ship. It was horrible and scary.

In comparison....NCL had great entertainment going on till quite late. When we were on the Wonder last September - around 11 PM dh and I couldn't find a lounge with entertainment anywhere. Also, NCL had continuous buffets - breakfast, then to a brunch, then to lunch, then a snack, dinner, snack, etc.

Whereas on the Wonder, we tried to get into the buffet for a snack and the food that was out was for the kids in the clubs and although they told us we could help ourselves, it was just chicken nugget/burger/hot dogs, etc.

Rooms on NCL - much smaller - service was awesome. The ship's decor nowhere near as beautiful as the Wonder. And the Wonder had tastier food.

We saw the Magic at Grand Cayman - it was great to see her there! And think about our cruise coming up in November :-)

All in all - it was a fabulous cruise and I had much fun with my girlfriends.

Did NCL have many kids? We're thinking of future cruises, and wonder how well DD (10) would like it?

Scorpio, we booked 2 rooms last year and this year. DDs are now15 and 13 and we book a verandah and an inside stateroom. This way DDs can "sleep in" in the "cave" on sea days and DW and I can enjoy the verandah...I am going to do the romance package also....APL is my rotation of choice...this way formal night and Thanksgiving are at Luminares and Pirtate night is at Parrot Cay.....
Momsgoofy.....don't forget about that "tag fairy" :rotfl2:

Willie.....the fish have "came in" and DD Alli and her friends had a blast catching blue gill all day yeaterday. Water is still a little cold for those bass to get closer to shore!!
John, my old neighbor called me over to his house yesterday and he open his garage door and right next to his "shelby" is a 1994(I think) Mustang cobra convertable with 8k miles on it......SSWWWEEEETTTTTTT!!!!

Well gotta go pay some bills and blow some dust off the hot rod before it rains....I'll chat at y'all later.

Hey DISNYFAN, we did Capt Marvins at Grand Cayman and booked direct thru his website. Had no problems.

Laura, congrats on your weight loss. Low carb has worked for me when nothing else did. DW Kelli is on a big weight loss tear right now she has dropped about 40 lbs since January. (She would kill me if she knew I posted anything about her weight!)

Lampy, thanks for the fishing update! I love to hear anything about fishing! I spent all day Saturday in the gym refereeing and coaching once again. And the weather here was fabulous! It drove me nuts! Gotta get out this weekend and get some "Summer Sting" on my skin! And I gotta go wet a line soon!

Willie

Hi Mickeyhugger -

NCL had kids, but of course, not as many as DCL. There were a lot of couples cruising. NCL did have a kids' program and arcade. They also had a very cool kids' pool area with a couple of water slides/tunnels, etc. Quite elaborate for a cruise ship. And since not EVERYONE had kids with them, the kids' pool area was not as crazy crowded as the Mickey pool on DCL.

:-)
How has everyone else been? :rolleyes1

Kris

Willie, I got some of that "summer sting" from yesterday on the pier...still trying to get a fellow diser to get some of that tanning oil that they sell at Swan/dolphin pools.....

WMILLER86-We will check out Captain Marvin's on the web. Thanks! That is great that your wife has lost 40lbs.I am also dieting right now as well as going to the gym every day for an hour biking.Your wife is doing great.I told myself come November I will be walking the deck if not biking an hour at the workout room.I have to keep this routine.I gained some weight in December on the cruise,so I am sure I will gain some in November!Who diets on vacation not me<G>!

Lampy, my man, even though I'm not gonna be cruising with ya'll this Turkey Cruise...unless ya plan to let me sneak on in your luggage...maybe that "girlfriend" could work a deal... :rotfl: Anyway, if you'd like I'd be happy to work a design up for ya'll for some Turkey Tag...just let me know and where to send it.

Willie, Thanks! It is a good feeling! I went clothes shopping today and bought pants two sizes smaller...woohoo!!! :Pinkbounc And you're probably right...Kelli would not be happy that you shared with us and the rest of the world, but since ya did give her a big ol' atta girl for me!! :cheer2: Go Kelli!! Go Kelli!! :cheer2:

Well, while ya'll are gearing up for cruisin' with a bunch of Turkeys...Eric (DH), Nic (DS) and I are gearing up for a trip to WDW...we still had some points and have the time now that Nic's school gets out 2 weeks early. We're staying at OKW...our first time there. Eric is excited that he can do the Star Wars thing while we're there...I guess I'll be excited for him, too. :cool1: Nic amazed me...he'll be 13 in a month, yet when I asked him what he wanted to do on this trip, he said head to Epcot WS and get some more character autographs... :earseek: My baby is still my baby!!
Me, I just plan to relax as much as possible....hey, they don't serve Konk Coolers at the pool there do they?

Ya'll take care!!!

Laura -

I must've missed something while I was away on vacation -- which, by the way, was great! :wave2:

But you're not going on the Disney Cruise???!! What's up?

:confused3 How many carbs ore in a miller lite? :confused3

Are you a fan of beer? Working on a low carb lifestyle? Here's a comparison chart of the various low carb beers and malt beverages on the market, to help you find one you enjoy!

Whatever idiot at Bud Light came up with the "all light beers are low carb" should be taken out and force-fed Bud Light until he turns into a blimp. There's almost 7g per bottle, over a third of your daily carb intake. Sam Adams Light is almost a full 10g per bottle. That's half your daily carb limit, on induction!

Low carb beers are lighter in flavor. You should do EVERYTHING you can to bring out as much of the beer's flavor as you can. Store the cans/bottles away from sunlight so they do not get skunked. Did you know light can skunk a beer in *Under a Minute*?? Do NOT drink the beer out of the bottle or can. Pour it into a glass and let the foam settle. It should be served right from the fridge. If you can, store a few beer glasses in the freezer so you can serve your beer in the frosted glass.

HEY GUYS!!!!!!!!!! HERE'S POST #2000

And I don't believe I am any wiser....... :confused3

Thanks to all for replying to all my questions... of course I have more!!

the door info, the reas, the dinner seating (which I'm 99% sure we'll go for the switch to late), and the beer carb count was great ... bad news for me tho since I'm a Bud Lighter through and through!

Was doing research on the collapsible coolers today and got many chuckles from the conversations...

Also trying to research the dinner rotations and the excursions!! Having never been all your expert advise on the excursions is wonderful...

But one question that seems to have gone untouched is the dinner rotation... perhaps you are fearing that we might invade upon your table wearing EAGLES Green and drinking the Bud Light but honest we really aren't that bad :rotfl2:

My preferred rotation is APL.........Parroy Cay on pirate night and Luminares on Turkeyday.......

I'd thought of the APL rotation as well, as it would also put us in Lumiere's on formal night. (Dining rotation requests are available if booking the REAS). My only concern is age of the children when we're seated with another family. I'd hope to be seated with a family with a 9-11 year old DD. I'm also requesting late seating. Is anyone else here going with late seating. Hey, if a lot of us are doing the REAS, then maybe we could request to be seated together at one big table! That would be a riot! :cool1:
