November 18, 2010 Wonder 3 day

Hello all,

This will be our first cruise ever! we are a family of 4- DH, me and twin DD (6) who will have their 7th bday on the cruise !! :) We have never cruised before and are very excited!! It is so hard to wait 2 more months!

Reading some of the reviews here it sounds like we coudn't have made a better choice for a vacation.

With 2, 7 yr olds any advice or tips on what to do when we are there would be very welcome.

Thanks for creating this thread, will log in often now to catch up on the latest.

Welcome Pirate Pam and family and tiarasandcrowns and family!!!!

Welcome back to the thread Amy.

I am so looking forward to this cruise and the one afterwards. On this cruise it's just DH and me. Four of our six grandkids and their parents will be with us on the 11/21/10 cruise.

I am also in the 60-some day preplanning mode for the Magic. Cruising with my DD's m-i-l - our 2nd girls DCL cruise.

Pam, many moms on the DIS can give you plenty of tips for entertaining the kids. When we cruised with 4 grandkids on the Wonder in September 2008, they were busy with the pools, food, kids clubs, plays, kids/family activities, and the fun of CC. Unfortunately, our 3 day cruise is way too short but I'm sure they will all have fun.

Hi again, My son has asked me to put us down the fish extenders fun. Soooo, count us in. That would also include my other son's family of 5, plus us 2. I will give info if we do this.
Happy Cruising,

This will be our first fish extender exchange! :cheer2: Do you have to give something to everyone in the family or just one per family?

Ok folks...I will organize the fish extender exchange:goodvibes Some time tomorrow I will go through the entire thread and create a database of everyone. So here's your assignment if you choose to accept:) I need your names, ages for kids, and cabin numbers. There is no right or wrong answer on how/when to exchange. Last year we exchanged differently to the youngens and the oldens:lmao:

Since we are in a Cat 1;) We would be willing to host a meet and greet in our cabin. I'm thinking 3pm on day one. If you have an interest, let me know:) It would be short and sweet, and allow us the opportunity for a photo op! Our Cabin number is 8530 and we are sailing with me, DH44, DD17, DS15 (and their friends 18 and 15).

Hi , this question is for veteran cruisers. I was told while booking the stateroom that the lower you are in the ship the less chances of getting seasick. As this is our first cruise, none of us know if we are prone to sea sickness so we want to be careful so we don't spoil our trip.

We are in Cat10 on Deck 2, is this a good choice? If anything opens up on Deck 5 or 7 should i opt for that? Please let me know your thoughts.

Also i will start looking for more information in the threads, but someone please tell me, what is Fish Extender (FE)?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,
Next to your door is a metal fish that the crew use to put your mail, notices, or bills. Some groups make a hanging decorative pouches that hang down. Then those who want to participate go around and give little pressies in them. It is fun to come back to your stateroom and find fun little things. Here is a link that tells about them and what sort of things ppl gave out.

WOW ( had several links here showing the threads that told how to make them and shown pictures of them, but was told I could not post links till I have posted 10 messages. Sorry)

Since this is my 1st time and it's only me and my adult son, I am going to look for shoe holder and try and decorate that.

There are many other links here that I have seen that ppl have shown pictures of their doors decorated with their magnets and FE's.

I hope this helps.

Looking forward to the cruise and meeting everyone. :cheer2:

Ahoy!
I am wondering if anyone might know when the holiday decorations will be comming up. Usually when we go to WDW the week before Thanksgiving, they have a lot up already. Sometimes we go week before or after Thanksgiving. This year we decided to do the cruise and instead of WDW we would just do Universal. Anyway, I am wondering if we might get to see the tree in the atrium.

I understand from other threads on the DIS, that the ship will be decorated. Hopefully, Castaway Cay will be decorated, too. We cruised on the Magic the week after Thanksgiving several years ago and the Christmas decorations were beautiful. Also, a gingerbread house will be placed on deck 3 next to the staircase leading to Shutters and the Promenade Lounge. Christmas music is played throughout the ship. Lots of great photo ops with all the decorations.

Amy, thanks for offering to host the meet and great on our first day. Since we are on such a too-short cruise, it's often difficult to get together to put faces with names. Count my DH and me in on visiting your stateroom. Are you in the Roy or Walt suite? I've been in the Roy - no, not as a paying guest!! - and it is beautiful

3pm is a perfect time - after boarding, having lunch, making Palo/dining reservations/changes and an hour before lifeboat drill.

Woohoo! I'll take you up on that! how much more fun than the usual Promenade Lounge meet. :thumbsup2
I'm still debating the FE excange- I'm doing it on the second cruise (this is part one of our back-to-back) and not sure I want to do it twice.

Deck 2 is good. We have stayed on all three of those decks, and the only time any of us had seasickness (and it was VERY rough seas) was deck 7. Take bonine (cheap from Walmart) one tablet a day, starting the night before you leave. The only time any of us got sick was when my kids were out late the last night and they didn't take their bonine. :sick:It was awful! never again will we cruise without remembering to take our bonine!

Hi Amy,

That sounds like a wonderful plan for the meet and greet. Thank you so much for having us and even allowing us a peek of the Roy Disney suite. I don't know my cabin number yet as I am gty 11, but it will be me (Pam)and my son Robert. Both of us are adults.

Also my son and his family will be joining in. They will be staying in 6084.
It is Rick, wife-Youa, Daughter-Noukou 17, Son-Richard 16 and Son-Victor 9.

Looking forward to meeting you and everyone else on Nov 18th. :yay:

Hi Jan,
Thanks for the info about the Xmas Decorations. It sounds lovely. What a nice time to be going on our 1st cruise.

I was just talking about this subject with my d-i-l who will be joining us on the 11/21/10 Wonder. She is concerned about seasickness. I told her that leaving the Florida coast may be a bit less than smooth sailing, but the next morning, we're coasting into the Nassau dock, and then once we leave Nassau, we are sailing at a snail's pace to Castaway. I like to get up early to take in the beautiful view of Castaway as we are approaching the island. Also, it's interesting to watch the unloading of supplies. Amazing.

As Christine posted, deck 2 is a good location.

Count us in for the Fish Extenders Activity...it sounds fun. Now to create our Fish Extender! :wizard:

We just moved up to Deck 7, 7556 :) My DH did not want to be on Deck 2, i guess we have to bring Bonine just in case :D
