November 13, 2011 Mexico on the Wonder

sry if i don't respond here as often..I am still not receiving updates thru email of this thread...well I do get some..just not all. it's weird

I don't get email updates either, but then again, I just come out and check regularly. I love to read through a long list of posts at once. I haven't tried to get email updates, but since I get so much junk mail, I would probably turn it off soon.

Frost? where is that PHX? right now any type of gelato sounds yummy!!

Oh & the balcony?? the doors out to it are secure right? I think that is always a thought as a parent about falling over board..we have the see thru plexi glass deck ...I just hope it's way taller than her. she is about 42inches tall

I will send you on FB the location of Frost.

On the Balcony's. The doors are very secure. I can't remember the height of the balcony, but I do remember them being as tall as my 7 year old daughter. But we had a rule, that she could not go out without an adult. No standing on the furniture. That pretty much helped us have a sense of peace with the balcony

Anyone dressing up for pirate night?
it looks so much fun!!! like a Halloween party! we love Halloween:thumbsup2

My DD9 will be dressing up for pirate night and MIL wants to. Still not sure if DH and I will. Found a cute costume for DD on buycostumes.com and it was under $20 and was a good quality.

Hi Laura
I would love to connect with this group on Facebook, is it by individual people? If so, my name is no secret, just look me up under Lise Maltais in Comox British Columbia. :)

I could not find you on FB, but sending you a PM with my information.

We don't get very into the dress up thing, but DCL usually gives everyone a pirate bandana at dinner, so most people have those on. In fact, the servers come around and just about make you put them on (or put them on for you). It's a fun night. And, in case you don't know, they do fireworks off the ship that night (we didn't know about them on our first cruise and we missed them).

I guess it's time to start talking about this upcoming cruise.

We booked this cruise for us (me, my wife, and 3 year old twins) about a month ago. The kids (boy/girl twins) will turn 4 on the 13th, so the timing was great.

We haven't made any plans yet or even booked our flight. This will be our 1st Disney cruise & the 1st cruise for the kids.

The wife and i did a few RCL before the kids came along and really liked it. Sounds like this will be fun for the adults & the kids!

Welcome KMan34!

Let us know if you have any questions about DCL. You and the kids will have a great time. I love that there is really something for everyone. We started sailing on DCL before we had kids, then we sailed with my sister's kids, then we've taken DD a few times, now we're going with 2 kids. DD will be 4 a few weeks before we sail, so it sounds like she's pretty close in age with your twins!

:welcome: KMan34

Glad you can join us here! Ask away on your DCL questions. This will be our 4th DCL cruise and first Mexican Rivera Cruise.

So what did you do leading up to your 1st cruise to get the kids ready?

Not getting them ready for life on the ship, but rather how do you pass the time until your trip? Any creative ideas?

Well, we are going to DL in September, so we are actually focusing on that first. One thing we are doing in preparation for that trip, that you could do for the cruise, is making a paper chain. That way DD can visually see how many more days until we go and she can watch it get shorter as the trip gets closer. We did this last December leading up to Christmas and she loved it.

Do you have the DCL planning DVD that you can show to them?

I'll try and think of other ideas and I'll post them as I think of them. This might be a good question to post on the regular DCL forum as well, then you'll get more responses since there are so many more people who read those threads versus our cruise meet thread. Let us know if you get any great ideas. I know I'll need some ideas once we are back from Disneyland.

Someone on another cruise, created a paper chain with the number of days on left until they left for the cruise. Then each day, the kids removed a link.. I can't remember if they hand something special written on the link or something that had information about the ship or a picture. But they felt it did give them a concept of countdowns.

Shauna - I believe you get to do online booking this weekend. Good luck and let us know what you get!

Thanks for the reminder. I need to decide for sure what we want to book. I think we're skipping Palo this time (although I'd love that Chocolate Souffle). For those of you who haven't sailed before, book a dinner at Palo, it's an experience everyone should try!

We were able to get things booked. For those who were wondering about Palo--Dinner is offered every night, Brunch is offered on the Sea Days (at 10:30, 11:00, and 11:30), and High Tea is offered on the Sea Days at 3:00. We are Gold Castaway Club members so we were able to book at 105 days out. Silver Castaway Club members (those who have sailed on DCL 1-5 times) get to book at 90 days out. First time cruisers get to book at 75 days out. It is on that day starting at 12:00am on the East Coast, so if you really want the best options, go online and book as soon as you can (we were able to do it at 10:00pm our time last night). You can log onto DCL's website and retrieve your reservation and then go to "My Cruise Plans" and click on it and it will tell you what day you can book. Where most of us aren't on the East Coast, just remember you can do it the night before the day it lists. We also booked a few excursions. For Cabo you select the excursion and then it tells you what day and time you can choose from. I wish it listed times before you have to select it, but no big deal--just more clicks to have to go through. If anyone has questions about times and such, let me know and I can look it up for you.

Hi Shauna - Can you let me know when times for the Dolphin Swim at Cabo? On the Short Cabo day and the longer cabo, We haven't decided which day to do it on.

Also the times for the beach break in PV?

Thanks.

Laura

The Dolping SWIM (not the encounter) is offered on
Thursday
11:45-1:45
12:45-2:45
Friday
8:45-10:45
9:45-11:45
10:45-12:45

The Paradise Beach Adventure in PV has only one time:
9:45-2:45

Have you looked into Beach stuff in PV much? We've tentatively got the Paradise Beach Adventure booked, but I've also heard about the Crown Point all-inclusive resort. I just want a nice beach to go play on that is easy to get to if we go on our own, which is why we've booked the excursion (going to miss Castaway Cay this trip). The Crown Point club is about half the price, but I've read reviews that say the beach there isn't all that great (at least that is what the reviewers said). Does anyone have experience with beaches in Puerto Vallerta? I'm also looking for something to do within walking distance in Cabo on the day that DH does SCUBA. I don't know what is right around the port (except the place that the Dolphin stuff is, which we are doing on Cabo day #2).

thanks for the times.. Think we are going to do a morning dolphin swim. We haven't looked at the beaches in PV. I think we will probably just stick to the DCL excursions.
